3 Forward The sponsors are happy to give 4-H and FFA members in Garvin County the opportunity to exhibit their livestock in this show and take part in the learning activities. Liability All exhibits will be under the control and direction of the Show Management, but the Show will in no case be responsible for any loss or damages that may occur. Each exhibitor will be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury or damage done to, or occasioned by, or arising from any animal or article exhibited by the exhibitor. The exhibitor shall indemnify and save harmless the show and all of its sponsors, assisting organizations, their employees and agents, against all legal or other proceedings in regard thereto, as well as damage or injury to any person or property, caused by the exhibitors or any of the animals exhibited by said exhibitor or arising out of, or in any way connected with such exhibition or any of the animals exhibited. General Rules and Regulations Exhibitors are requested to familiarize themselves with the rules of this show. The OFFICIALS have the right to interpret, amend or add to those rules, and settle all questions or differences connected with any activities of this show. 1. OYE rules will apply to the Garvin County Show for any matter in question is now covered by a Garvin County rule. 2. The show is open only to bonafide member(s) of 4-H and FFA clubs in Garvin County. Such members must be qualified under the national rules of these organizations pertaining to such membership. All exhibitors must be academically eligible. If exhibitor is academically ineligible, they and their animals are ineligible to show. 3. There will be penning assignments for hogs, goats and lambs. 4. Cleaning of pens and penning area: Each school will be responsible for cleaning their penning area by the following Monday after show. This includes the cattle barn, wash pens, show area and the grounds. Basically everything inside the fence area must be cleaned. The shavings will have a designated area to be dumped. 5. Animals must be properly conditioned, groomed and fitted to be eligible for the show. The superintendents of the species will reject any animal not deemed worthy to compete. Exhibitors will be expected to accompany all livestock and care for it and PERSONALLY EXHIBIT it, except in the case of illness or some other unavoidable reason. In these cases, special permission must be secured from the superintendents of that species before time of judging. 6. Exhibitors will wear the official dress, FFA dress will be an official jacket & white collared shirt (tie Optional). 4-H dress will be an official jacket or vest with a white collared shirt. Official dress must be worn during the show and premium sale.

4 General Rules and Regulations, continued 7. The show officials reserve the final and absolute right to interpret these rules and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions or differences in regard thereto or otherwise arising out of, or connected with, or incident to the show. 8. The show will be set up on a $10.00 per nominated animal fee basis. Exhibitors, number of animals per species, and entry money has to be turned in to the Show Superintendent by nomination dates. Pens and stalls will be assigned based on type and number of entries. Exhibitors are not limited to number of animals that can be nominated. 9. There is no charge for the entry; however, a $10 nomination fee per animal shall be enforced. This fee must accompany all nominations and be delivered to the show superintendents. Family name on nomination forms is allowed, however entries must be in individual names on entry forms filed on the day the entries are turn in at the show check-in./weigh-in. 10. Household nominations: Students will be allowed to enter and show any animal that was nominated by an individual from their household according to the following restrictions: a) The students must all be legal kin to each other, reside in the same household and share the same legal address. b) The student entering the animal must have materially participated in the daily care of the animal. c) Regarding eligibility: if a student is declared academically ineligible, any animal entered in that student s name shall be ineligible for exhibition at the Garvin County Spring Livestock show. 11. No self nomination for all animals. Nominations must be submitted by Ag Leaders by set deadlines. Heifers are required to furnish registration papers or a notarized statement of the date of ownership and possession, from his/her Ag- Ed instructor or Extension educator. All animals must show in the breed in which they were nominated, exception for lambs. Lambs will be classified during weigh-in. Ear tags are required during the show on wether goats, all steers and all lambs. Ear tags or tattoos are acceptable on doe goats and heifers. Ear tags or ear notches are required for all hogs. 12. Ear tags, tattoos or notches in ear must match to the animal that was nominated. 13. The species superintendents will determine in which class an animal shall show if breed characteristics are questionable. NO PROTEST ALLOWED. 14. These tags must be inserted through the ear to be eligible to show and they must be in place prior to arrival at the show. All animals must be shown in exhibitors name as nominated, OYE House Hold rules apply. Exhibitors in the same family have until the day of weigh-in to determine whose name the animal will be exhibited. Both siblings MUST be academically eligible to conduct this change.

5 15. After selection of Breed Champion, second place animals in Champion Class shall compete for Reserve Champion. After selections of Grand Champion, the Reserve Champion of the breed selected as Grand Champion will compete with other Breed Champions for Reserve Grand Champion of the show. 16. The committee reserves the right to withhold the premium awarded in any case in which it appears that any of the regulations have not been followed. 17. Parents or groomers will not be allowed to assist the exhibitor in the show ring. Extension staff, 4-H Leaders and the exhibitor s Vocational Teachers will be permitted to assist exhibitors in getting animals lined up, but must stand back when judging begins or animals will be disqualified from the competition. Only swine exhibitors, their Ag Teachers or their 4-H leader will be allowed in the show ring or holding pen. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification of animal and exhibitor. 18. Rowdyism, excessive horseplay or refusal to follow instructions of the night watchman, custodian, or any show official will be cause in the expelling of exhibitor and their animal from the show. This also includes reckless driving on the fair grounds. 19. Injured Animal- When the judge determines that an animal can no longer compete without endangering itself, said animal will be disqualified, and the next highest placing animal in that class will be brought in to replace the disqualified animal. If animal or exhibitor is disqualified or expelled, no award will be granted. 20. Exercising of hogs shall not be done in the cattle sections of the building and all moving of cattle shall be from and through the South and West doors, not using the hog alley. 21. Animals are to be released following the judging of the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion of each species. There is to be no loading of animals while another species is being judged. 22. The management will request any exhibitor who is not keeping their area and stall clean as specified by the Superintendent, to remove his animal from the building immediately. 23. No protest allowed in placing of animals; Judge s decision is final. 24. All protests must be made in writing and submitted through your Ag instructor or Ag Leader. Protests should be submitted to a member of the Show Committee or General Superintendent within one hour of the animal being shown. The protest must be accompanied by a $100 cash deposit, which will be forfeited if the protest is denied. 25. Gates will close the earlier of 11:00 p.m. or 1 hour after completion of the show. No exhibitor will be permitted to stay all night. A Night Watchman will be on duty. Gates will open at 6:00 a.m. daily.

6 General Rules and Regulations, Continued 26. An exhibitor is required to own the animal that he or she has selected for showmanship. 27. Dressing for all animals are allowed, except for no glue, no added hair, no oil, no powder, no white wash and no color alternating substance of any kind on any animal. 28. All animals must be housed in the fair building facilities. 29. This show adheres to the Oklahoma Show Ring of Ethics. 30. Anyone officially barred from any other livestock show will not be eligible to participate in the Garvin County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show in that same school year. 31. All animals that are to be exhibited MUST be housed in a pen owned by the exhibitor or the Ag farm and cared for and fed by the exhibitor on a daily basis. If the exhibitor doesn t have their own pen and there is not an Ag farm available it may be kept in an alternate location only if they have prior approval by the Show Chairperson. If exhibitor fails to comply with this rule their animal(s) will be ineligible to be exhibited. 32. All animals must be exhibited by the owner of the animals and all animals must be exhibited to be eligible for judging and the premium sale. Animals that are ruled to have a temperament that is dangerous to other animals and / or exhibitors will be excused by show officials and not be allowed to be judged. 33. In case of illness, injury, other school activities or more than one entry in a class, another exhibitor from the same school may show that person s animal. Once determined a substitute can be used because of injury or illness Exhibitor will not be allowed to show their animal without approval of Show Chairperson. 34. Showmanship contest for exhibitors will consist of the following divisions in all species: Junior Division: 9-12 years of age Intermediate Division years of age Senior Division years of age Everyone is eligible to participate in Showmanship 35. No School Group or Booster Club hospitality tables will be allowed to be set up on the south side of the barn in the area of the concession stand. 36. Bedding: Wood shavings are the only items allowed to be used as stall bedding, absolutely NO STRAW ALLOWED. Wood shavings will be provided by the school groups or by individuals. Do not place stall cleanings in any walkway or trash barrel. All alleys and pens should be kept clean. 37. Only side hanging fans will be allowed in any barn. For safety reasons there will be no fans allowed in an isle or walkway. 38. For all rules or regulations that are not covered in the Garvin Co. Spring Livestock Show brochure, the OYE regulations will be followed.

7 Policy Statements A. Barns will be open for receiving animals on Monday, February 26, Goat, sheep & cattle must turn in their Entry Cards during the following times: Cattle 2:00-5:00 p.m. Goats 2:00-4:00 p.m. Lambs 4:00-6:00 p.m. B. Pedigrees-heifers and gilts must have a pedigree issued by the respective breed organization and must be registered in the name of the exhibitor or family name (household rules). Note: pedigrees that are simply signed on the back by the respective breeder and not officially transferred in the exhibitors name by the association will not be accepted. Rules for 2018 Premium Sale 1. The number of eligible animals to be sold in each species shall not exceed: 60 (minimum of 6 per breed+ additional percentage) barrows 25 lambs 15 market steers 15 heifers 13 goats (4 Does/9 Wethers) 10 Gilts 2. The 3rd place in all species will be known as Bronze winners. 3. Stressed animals during the showing for premium sale order will be removed from the arena during sale order selection and next animal will take its place (judge will make that determination). 4. Order of sale will be: Grand Champion Steer; Swine; Lamb; Beef Heifer; Gilt; Wethers Goat; and Prospect Doe Goat. Reserve Grand Champion Steer; Swine; Lamb; Beef Heifer; Gilt; Wethers Goat; and Prospect Doe Goat. 5. All Breed and Reserve Breed Champions in order of Steers and Swine, Lambs, Beef Heifers and goats. One-third remaining Steers in placing order, one-third remaining Swine in placing order, one-third remaining Lambs in placing order. Repeat this order until all animals are sold. 6. Each exhibitor will be eligible to sell no more than one animal. If an exhibitor has more than one animal in place in the sale order the highest placed animal will be in the premium sale. If two or more place the same, the Vo Ag Teacher or 4-H Leader from the exhibitor s school will choose which animal will be in the sale. Exhibitors may appear as many times as they qualify as an alternate. 7. Exhibitors will be required to wear the official dress in sale. Refer to General Rule #4. 8. Sheep lined up by breeds (25 lambs), if there are 5 or more in breed 2 will be selected for the sale, if there are at least 3 animals there will be 1 selected. The remaining animals will come for the alternates selected.

8 Heifers 1. Entries: Exhibitors are limited to 3 Heifers. 2. Sale order: Heifers will be in alphabetical order. 3. Bred Heifers: Heifer can be bred but not have calved as of the show date. 4. Ownership: Exhibitors must maintain continuous ownership possession and provide daily care for each heifer entered into the show 90 days prior to the show date. 5. All heifers with less than 3 in the breed will be placed in AOB or OPB, which ever applies to their specific situation. If there are less than 3 heifers in AOB or OPB, they will automatically be moved into the commercial class. Registered heifers must have appropriated tattoo(s), ear tags or brands, Heifers with tattoos will be allowed as commercial. 6. Premium Sale : Three animals justify a breed 7. There will be a breed champion and reserve breed champion and sale alternates selected from each breed to be considered for sale order. 8. All breed Champions will be placed in the sale. 9. The Sale order will be selected from the same lineup that began with the Grand Champion Drive until 15 heifers are selected for the sale and 10 alternates. 10. Registration: Exhibitors are to have registration papers with them to show the Superintendents at the time of entry. Age limits of each of the breeds accepted and recognized in the show are: Born January 1, 2013 and are eligible to show will follow OYE age and percentage requirements. 11. Eligible Heifers: Angus, Beefmaster, Brahman, Brangus, Charolais, Chianina, Gelbvieh, Limousin, Hereford, Maine- Anjou, Red Angus, Salers, Simmental, Shorthorn, Mini Herefords. 12. Percentage Breeds: Charolais Influence, Chianina Influence (Shown by Hip Height), Lim-Flex, Maintainer, Simmental Influence, Shorthorn Plus, Commercial (shown by weight), AOB, OPB

9 Market Steers 1. Entries: Exhibitors are limited to 3 Steers. 2. Weight: Steers must weight 1,000 pounds or over to be eligible for classes. 3. Showmanship: There will be a contest for showmanship. 4. Tooth Rule: Same rule as National Western Stock Show, Permanent Incisors not up and in wear. 5. Premium Sale: 15 head. 6. Ownership: Exhibitors must maintain continuous ownership possession and provide daily care for each Steer entered into the show 90 days prior to the show date. 7. Identification: Must have ear tag. 8. Classes: Steers will be divided into classes by weight, the following will be recognized and shown in alphabetical order with crossbred (Exotic) last: British Breeds (Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn) Exotic Prospect Steer All steers weighing under 1000 lbs will be shown as a prospect. Animals will eligible for a ribbon only. These steers will not be eligible to sale.

10 Swine Barrows 1. Entries: Exhibitors may show three barrows. 2. Weights: pounds. Show officials will weight all animals starting at 1 p.m. Monday, February 26. No hogs will be allowed in the south section of the show barn. 3. Ownership: Exhibitors must maintain continuous ownership possession and provide daily care for each Barrow entered into the show 60 days prior to the show date. Violations will result in elimination of the animal and exhibitor. An ear tag and/or ear notches must be applied in animal s ear before show. All ear notches in barrows and gilts must be healed to be allowed to show. 4. Showmanship: All swine exhibitors are eligible to participate in the showmanship contest. 5. Exhibitors: Must be enrolled in Garvin County 4-H or FFA. 6. Premium sale: A total of 60 will sell, a minimum of 6 in each breed plus a percentage per breed 7. Identification: Must have ear tag with ear notch backup. 8. Breeds will show in alphabetical order: Berkshire Chester Duroc Hamp Poland Spots Yorkshire Cross

11 Breeding Gilts Show 1. Entries: Exhibitor may show three gilts. All gilts must have been continuously owned and feed personally by the exhibitor for a period of 60 days prior to the show. (see Barrows for violations) 2. Weight: 350 pounds. 3. Classes: All classes will be shown by age (Junior Sept./Oct. Senior Aug.) except Crossbreds, they will be by weight. Papers must be verified before Monday, February 26, 3:00 p.m. by a swine superintendent. 4. Showmanship: All swine exhibitors are eligible to participate in the showmanship contest. 5. All purebred gilts must have pedigrees. Pedigrees must be officially transferred into the exhibitors name or family name. Pedigrees that are simply signed on the back will not be excepted. 6. Ownership and ID rules same as Barrows. 7. Premium sale: Only the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion and Bronze winner plus the next best gilts selected by the judge will be eligible for the Premium Sale (total of 10 head). 8. Exhibitors: Each gilt exhibitor must be enrolled in Garvin County 4-H or FFA. 9. Identification: Must have either ear tag or ear notches. 10. Breeds will show in alphabetical order: Berkshire Chester Duroc Hamp Poland Spots Yorkshire Hereford Cross

12 Lambs 1. Exhibitor is allowed to show 3 lambs. 2. Minimum weight: is 65 pounds. 3. Ewe and Wether Lambs are eligible for the show and premium sale. 4. Lambs will be weighed by superintendents and classification by superintendents. 5. Market lambs will shown by breed. It takes 3 to make a breed and three to make a class. AOB is for breeds with less than 3 in a class, if less than 3 in AOB they must be placed in Crossbred. 6. Premium Sale: Three animals justify a breed There will be a breed champion and reserve breed champion and sale alternates selected from each breed to be considered for sale order. All breed Champions will be placed in the sale. The Sale order will be selected from the same lineup that began with the Grand Champion Drive until 25 Lambs are selected for the sale and 15 alternates. 7. Ownership: Exhibitors must maintain continuous ownership possession and provide daily care for each Lamb entered into the show 90 days prior to the show date. 8. Ear Tag: An identification tag must be applied in animal s ear before show. 9. Lambs must be slick sheared, no more than 1 week s growth. 10. The following breeds will be recognized and shown in alphabetical order with crossbred last. Dorset Hamp Natural Shropshire Southdown Speckleface Suffolk AOB Crossbred

13 Market Goats Wethers and Does 1. Classes: Goats will be divided by weight. Each exhibitor is limited to 3 does and 3 Wethers. (Does and Wethers show separate.) 2. Health: Goats must be free from external parasites, ringworms and warts. 3. Ownership: Exhibitors must maintain continuous ownership possession and provide daily care for each market goat entered into the show 90 days prior to the show date. A Garvin Co. tag must be applied through all wether goat s ear before show. Ear tags or tattoos are acceptable for does. 4. Horns: Dehorning of goats in this show is not suggested; however horns should be tipped and rounded. Goats with horns sharper than deemed safe by the show superintendent will be required to be tipped or rounded or isolated and not shown. 5. Premium sale: Top 4 Does and the top 9 Wethers will be eligible for the Premium Sale. 6. Bracing: Bracing WILL be allowed in the wether goat division. All four feet MUST be left on the ground. NO bracing does kids. Doe kids are to be controlled with the chain only. 7. Tooth Rule: Wether Goats No Tooth Rule. Doe Goats Must have milk teeth at time of nomination. 8. Weights: Minimum weight for wether and doe goats will be 40 pounds and maximum will be 160 pounds. 9. Shearing: Wethers must be sheared to a maximum of 3/8 residual hair length. Does it is left up to the discretion of the exhibitor. 10. Identification: Wethers must have an ear tag, does must have either an ear tag or tattoo.
