1 FARMERS: For 2013, a special booth category is being offered for the Harvest Market Farmers. Booth space will be assigned on a first-come-first serve basis. If you are not a current member of the Sandhills Farmer s Green Market, you can join giving you access to Annie Oakley and all 2014 markets and special event markets. HAND CRAFTERS: Annie Oakley is also accepting additional handcraft vendors. Craft vendors must commit to both days of the event. Crafters who are members of the Sandhills Farmer s Green market receive a discounted rate. Note: Crafters do not need to be a member of the Sandhills Farmer s Green Market. Individual 10 x 10 tent spaces Electricity is not generally available. Vehicles may enter the grounds for loading and unloading, but cannot be parked alongside your tent during the event. Expo Details: The two-day expo Harvest Market Farmers must commit to Saturday and may commit to Sunday as an additional day. Crafters are expected both days. Saturday October 12 th 10am 5pm (Oyster Roast begins at 6pm) Sunday, October 13 th 11am 4pm (Cherokee Nation Shaman Prayer Service from 1am Noon) FAQ s for the expo Size of crowd anticipated: We expect approximately 3,000+ spectators to attend the community portion of the event. Booth Space Details: Each booth space is approximately 10 x 10. Multiple spaces can be accommodated. Vendor will need to provide all booth elements. Booth space will be assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. All Harvest Market Farmers will be grouped together however, in the event of duplication of product, vendors will be separated. Location: The Mile Track is located in the Fair Barn Complex at 200 Beulah Hill Road (HWY 5). Exhibitors will be able to enter on the back side of the track. This entrance is near the intersection of Beulah Hill Rd. (Hwy 5) and Monticello Rd. (it is at the stop light south of the Fair Barn Entrance). Go East on Monticello Rd. and the track entrance will be the first dirt road to your left the gate will be open. Just follow the road down to the track. Exhibitor check-in will be at the barn. If you are bringing a horse trailer, you will be able to park near the trees on the track infield. Please note that the gate to this entrance will be closed at 9:30 am. After that time you will need to enter the track at the Fair Barn entrance (north of Monticello) and follow the signs back to the track. Exhibitors will not be able to access exhibitor parking after the event opens at 10:00 am. Move In/Move Out: Move in will be Saturday morning between at 7:30 am 9:45 am. For one day participants, breakdown will be available at 5:00 pm if you sell out, you will need to have materials, business cards, etc. as teardown is not allowed until 5pm. You may set up a sold-out sign and enjoy the event and exhibitions. Sunday move-in is the same and move out will begin at 4pm If you need more time for move in or move out, we will be happy to work with you to schedule it individually. If you are in a tent, you are welcome to set up on Friday night as our tents will already be up. At this time, Friday set up is at your own risk as there will be limited security on site. You may leave product overnight on Saturday at your own risk. The grounds will be patrolled as part of Pinehurst Police Department s general security rounds.

3 Annie Oakley Boom Days, Where the Wild West meets Southern Hospitality Celebrating the Sporting Life Pinehurst, North Carolina October 12 th & 13 th, 2013 This event is a celebration of the deep history and heritage of the sporting life in the beautiful Sandhills of North Carolina with a tribute to Annie Oakley. Born in 1860 as Phoebe Ann Mosey, she adopted the stage name Annie Oakley after she met and married sharpshooter Frank Butler. In her youth, she supported her family by shooting and selling game to restaurants, hotels and grocers in and around her hometown of Greenville, Ohio. Annie Oakley gained worldwide acclaim in the late 1800 s as a sharp shooter in Buffalo Bill s Wild West Shows held across the United States and in Europe. Oakley and Butler retired from the rigors of traveling with the show and spent their winters at one of the most beautiful locations in the south; Pinehurst, North Carolina. It was here, under the boughs of the beautiful long leaf pine and at one of America s premier sporting resorts, where the mild winters allowed them to continue to put on sharp shooting exhibitions for the winter residents and visitors, while indulging their love for shooting on a daily basis. In 1895, James Walker Tufts vision of a New England village in the south became a reality. Pinehurst began as a respite from the rigors of everyday life for the middle class and the well-to-do alike. The resort began with many sporting opportunities such as horseback riding, tennis and of course shooting (golf came along later). The Pinehurst gun club drew shooters from north to south and held numerous trap tournaments. Annie Oakley herself was instrumental in raising funds for the Pinehurst Fair Barn. Oakley herself was both a supporter of and participant in many of the events held there including the Moore County Fair. Annie Oakley, sharp-shooter and star of the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, came to Pinehurst in 1915 with her husband, Frank Butler. Annie was the manager of the Pinehurst Gun Club, and gave shooting exhibitions at the resort twice a week. Between 1916 and 1922 she instructed over 15,000 people including 2,500 women in the art of marksmanship at the club. Annie Oakley s Boom Days The Sporting Life Game Fair Saturday & Sunday Oct 12 th & 13 th 2013 What could be better than a day of festivities dedicated to this history and heritage of The Sporting Life in North Carolina. In its fifth year, this community celebration is expected to once again increase attendance and draw 3,000+ people. The Celebration includes something for everyone. Nowhere else will you find such a rich history of sporting events that are still alive and well.

4 This year s festival continues to grow and encompass all the elements of the Sporting Life Pinehurst had to offer in the 1920 s. The day will be filled with exhibitions and demonstrations designed to thrill everyone in the family. The event is held at Pinehurst s Track Facility and is a cross between the historic Buffalo Bill s Wild West Show, a traditional Game Fair and a high end art and memorabilia exhibit/sale. Highlights of the day include Sharp Shooter demonstration paying Tribute to Annie Oakley, Cowboy Mounted Shooting Performances, Falconer with five birds of prey, numerous Dog Demonstrations, a Clay Flurry Shooting Challenge, Horses & Hounds, horse carriages, Game Fair elements, Hand craft artists at work and more.. The Expo will be housed in several locations, under the big top, in individual tents and inside the Fair Barn. The exhibitors will generally fall into the following exhibitor categories: Non-profit associations: i.e. Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, NC Wildlife Travel and shooting operations: i.e. Fork Farm and SYC Sporting Adventures Artists and elegant crafters: i.e. painters, sculptors, photographers, carvers, jewelers, etc. Equipment manufacturers: i.e. guns, fly fishing, archery, equestrian Clubs: i.e. Sandhills Pointing Breeds & Moore County Hounds Memorabilia Craftsman demonstrations In addition to the Expo, there will be on-going demonstrations of the sporting life as well as period type craftsmen. All artists are encouraged to demonstrate their works as a means to be more engaging with the audience. We are currently working on securing active artists in several disciplines including: blacksmith, glassblower, saddle making, pottery thrower, old time photographer as well as others. Collectibles & Memorabilia This area will include exhibits by Moore County Historical, Tufts Archives and several gun manufactures (such as Colt, Holland & Holland, Marlin or Remington) that have historical collections, beautiful equipment, items linked to Annie Oakley, etc. that will be displayed and/or offered for sale. Kids Area As this is a family event, we will have a designated area dedicated to children. Everything in the area will be focused around the sporting life. We are currently working with groups to provide the following activities : NC Wildlife elements, marshmallow shooting stand, photo stands, Indian head dress creation, adoptable pets, among other items. Equestrian In 2015 The Pinehurst harness track turns 100. Throughout the last century Pinehurst has been the home to riders of many disciplines including harness and thoroughbred racing and training. Even beyond Pinehurst, Moore County North Carolina has an incredible history associated with the equestrian pursuits. Many of our equestrian opportunities are hidden from view and this event offers a grand location for the many disciplines to showcase their sport. Dogs Inspired by Annie Oakley s dog Dave who was as an integral part of Annie s show while in Pinehurst among his many tricks, Dave held a cigarette in his mouth for Annie to shoot. So honoring our incredible four legged friends seemed a natural alongside Annie Oakley. AS in the past, we will once again have demonstrations of gun dogs including both pointing and retrieving and are securing additional canine demonstrations.

5 Shooting As in the past, and in keeping with the theme of Annie Oakley s historical presence here in Pinehurst, and the significance of the 1901 Buffalo Bill s Wild West Show in Charlotte and the subsequent train wreck in Lexington, there will be a segment of shooting demonstrations on Saturday afternoon. From an Annie Oakley sharpshooting exhibition, to mounted cowboy shooting of the old west and a clay flurry competition, history will repeat itself and Annie s legacy will once again be cemented in Pinehurst. The top participants from the Clay Challenge will have an opportunity to shoot for the crown and square off against our reigning champions from season s past. This is a fast, paced target shooting event that is truly engaging for the spectators. The four shooters stand shoulder-to-shoulder as 50 clay targets are thrown into the air in under two minutes. Paying homage to Annie Oakley herself, the event will feature a sharp shooter/trick shooter. Annie is still the grand master and even today s exhibition shooters take a page out of her book. World Record holder Quick Draw Pistol Artist. We are attempting to negotiate an appearance by the current Ladies Quick Draw World Record Holder. She has a 20 minute quick draw presentation. Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demonstration. In keeping with Annie Oakley s historical performances, this sanctioned sport involves riders, in historical costume, shooting balloon targets while on horseback. Cowboy Mounted shooting captured the audience last year and we will continue with this live action element for As one of the fastest growing equestrian sports in the Nation, mounted contestants compete in this fast action timed event. Ducks Unlimited Oyster Roast & Auction Saturday Night Saturday evening will be capped off with Pinehurst s Largest Oyster Roast. This evening features an all-you-caneat oyster and seafood extravaganza for 350 people. The evening will feature live entertainment and a silent and live auction offering you the opportunity to bid on unique trips to destinations around the US and across the globe, guns, art and more in support of Ducks Unlimited s conservation efforts.
