2 Ave. Burchard, NE Cell: Dear Friends and Fellow Cattleman, Welcome to our 57th year of having the Tegtmeier Polled Herefords Production Sale. This will be our 65th sale as we held two sales for a few years. Having 65 sales is an exciting milestone for us, but we know that it would not be possible without our friends and customers. We have been blessed by having repeat customers and we say a big Thank You to you all! The past year has seen a downward trend in our cattle prices, resulting in less profits and tighter margins. It appears we have seen the lows and lately, we ve seen a slight upward turn in the market. With this in mind, we still must watch our feed costs and other costs of production. We need to have cattle that are efficient and easy doing. Hereford cross cattle can do this and are in demand as feeder calves and replacement females. Combine those traits that Hereford cattle have with improved calving ease and carcass traits and you have a breed of cattle that are right for these times. The bulls and females in this year s offering are the result of years of culling out problem cattle and working on calving ease, carcass traits and producing better females with good milk and udders. It s a long process and we still strive for improvement, but our ultimate goal is to produce profitable cattle for our customers. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that have sent cards and made phone calls in regards to my recent health issues the past few months. Sale Terms and Conditions 1. Terms Cash or Check. Each animal to be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer shall settle any dispute as to bids. 2. All cattle are to be paid for by the purchaser during or immediately after the sale unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. 3. Each animal will be the purchaser s risk immediately after the animal is sold. They will be fed and cared for free of charge for a reasonable length of time after the sale but at the purchaser s risk. 4. If the buyer of an AI certificate bull or heifer that is not already registered wishes to have them registered, that certificate price will be announced from the auction block before the animal is sold. 5. All cattle will be sold in compliance with the health laws of the state of Nebraska. 6. Breeding Guarantee All bulls and females are guaranteed to be breeders if given proper care. Heifers pronounced safe in calf by the veterinarian shall be considered breeders without any further guarantee. Any animal failing to breed within five months may be returned to the seller if in as good condition as when sold. The seller reserves the right to try said animal for five months. If the animal proves to be a breeder, the owner gets the bull at his expense. If it fails to be a breeder, an exchange will be made or his money returned. 7. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. Owner assumes no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents which may occur. 8. Bids may be sent to any of the sale staff. 9. Please be assured if you buy cattle we will take care of them for a reasonable length of time, especially where long distance travel is involved. 10. Owner reserves the right to make additions or withdraw any cataloged entries if they fail to meet our standards at sale time. 11. Birth Weight (BW) BW EPD is an indicator trait for calving ease and is measured in pounds. Certified Hereford Beef Index (CHB$) This is a terminal sire index that is built on a production system where Hereford bulls sire calves for the CHB market. There is some pressure put on CE and then positive weight on both WW and YW. Remember that all offspring in this index are harvested, so they need to be born alive and then grow fast at all stages of life. Of course, we have much more emphasis on fat in this index, as we want the cattle to stay lean. There is also a significant weight on both REA and IMF with more emphasis again on IMF. This index would be used by producers who have a target of producing bulls for a terminal breeding program. It could be used heavily in the Midwest where bulls are used in rotational breeding programs to produce cattle in a retained ownership program or are simply sold to backgrounders. This is the only index that has no emphasis on fertility. Remember that nothing is retained in the herd.
