What are your 4-H Dreams? What would you like to discover or do in 4-H that you haven t already? Use the H Calendar enclosed to inspire you to set some 4-H resolutions for Dream Big, Work Hard and Make Your 4-H Experiences Count! Read the 4-H Clover Graham and future ones for 4-H and Fair updates, deadlines and more! Take advantage of all that is offered! Visit the web clark.osu.edu and act on blasts and text messages that are sent out. Invite a classmate to your next 4-H club meeting or to attend the 4-H Kickoff at Cloverfield, March 6, 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Complex, Fairgrounds. Make the 4-H Kick-off a club meeting or family outing. Discover and Do as many of the twenty-four activities at Kick-off as you want. Explore 4-H projects, STEM, healthy DIY, maker activities, animals and more! See the enclosed flyer! Earn your 4-H Activity Fee by participating in the countywide 4-H fundraisers. Choose to sell Anthony Thomas candy bars or Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough/Frozen Food Product. An Otis Spunkmeyer Order Form is enclosed. Submit your orders and money on March 30, 4-6 PM at the Extension Office. Improve your skills and knowledge by attending trainings, clinics, shows, camps and workshops offered throughout the year! There are many great opportunities highlighted in this newsletter. Use your creativity to design a centerpiece for the Congressional Farm Forum. Congressman Warren Davidson has requested that 4-H clubs, members and families share their 4-H or agriculture story. Designs can be 2 or 3 dimensional and no larger than 2 cubic ft. Please deliver your centerpiece to the Extension Office by Feb. 28. Congressman Davidson s office will pick up the displays on March 2 and return them after the event on March 3. We look forward to seeing your 4-H DREAMS come true as you make new 4-H DISCOVERies and learn-by-doing the 4-H way! Please provide your cell phone carrier (Verizon, Sprint, ATT, etc.) to ensure you receive our text messages. 4-H Member and Parent/Legal Guardian must read and sign the Permission to Participate, Photo Release and Code of Conduct on the Member Enrollment Forms. Returning 4-H Volunteers must update re-enrollment form, read and sign standards of behavior and sign photo release. Payment of your 4-H Activity Fee by May 18th is required for full 4-H membership benefits including eligibility for Clark County Fair & Ohio State Fair. Pork Queen Contest Who: Girls, age 16 to 19 with at least 2 years of swine project experience or whose family is a pork producer. Entry Deadline is Feb. 26. Form on the web at Judging Criteria: 5-10 minute speech, oral presentation and answers to questions, poise and personal presentation Contest and Award: March 16, Clark Co. Pork Banquet at Locust Hills Golf Course, crowning and $500 scholarship presented to the winner Questions: Contest Coordinators Jennifer Harral, jharral14@aol.com or Cortney Karshner cortney.karshner@yahoo.com Congressional Farm Forum Centerpiece Project What: 4-H clubs, members or groups create a 2 or 3 dimensional center piece that represents 4-H or agriculture include an index card explaining the centerpiece When: Bring your creation to the Extension Office by Feb. 28. Centerpieces will be returned after the Congressional Farm Forum on March 3. What: Every centerpiece will be eligible for cash prizes sponsored by the Clark County 4-H Committee. The winning centerpieces will be kept to be put on display at the Taste of 4-H...Toast to Graham event in May. Show your 4-H creativity and pride by submitting a centerpiece.

Explore The Big Book of Cloverbud Activities to use in your 4-H Club & receive a copy to use with your cloverbuds. Quality Assurance Club Advisor Training When: Thursday, March 1 Time: 6:30 PM-8:30 PM Location: Extension Office Who: Any 4-H club that wants to teach quality assurance at the club level MUST send a club volunteer to this training. What: New Hands-On Activities and Resources to Teach This Year s GPP s & Animal Welfare/Ethics Don t Miss: Food, FUN, Door Prizes, Activities, and More! Schedule club quality assurance kits for your club QA after March 10 & complete by June 4! Horse Sense for Club Advisors When: March 19, 2018 Time: 7 PM Where: Ext. Office Who: At least one 4-H Club advisor from any club that will be enrolling horse project members. Ohio 4-H Conference When: Saturday, March 10 Time: 9 AM to 4 PM Where: Columbus Convention Center What: Hands-on training for volunteers and teens Cost: $10 for the first 25 teens and first 25 volunteers that apply. Any volunteer that would like to become a certified shooting sports instructor in archery, pistol, shotgun, rifle, muzzleloader, hunting & wildlife or living history. Register before March 23 by visiting families/members/events-opportunties/shootingsports/state-training. Don t wait! This training fills up quickly. Teens may also attend Jr. Leader training.

All members must have attended a 2018 QA program by June 4, days prior to opening day of Fair is a new rule added by ODA for all Ohio Jr. Fair Market Exhibitors regardless of Fair! Don t wait to the last minute! Horse Safety Clinic When: Sat., March 17 Time: 1-3 PM, Ext. Office Who: First year horse project members and their parent(s)/legal guardian(s) Required in order to participate in the 4-H Horse Program! Important Changes to Clark County Jr. Fair Shows Cattleman s Show: No entry fee. Breeders of eligible animals should be members of the Clark County Cattleman s. Added a Bred and Own Award (member owns the cow from which the eligible animal was born). Member must become a member of the Clark County Cattleman s to be eligible for this award. County Farrowed: Breeders of county farrowed eligible pigs must submit survey listing all pigs sold to Clark County 4-H & FFA members with requested information no later than May 15. Information regarding the survey will be posted to clark.osu.edu and clarkcoag.com in late February. Market Lambs & County Born & Raised: Members will need to tag lambs in on Saturday, May 12, 9 AM to 11 AM, Sheep Arena to show at the 2018 Clark County Jr. Fair. You may tag and show up to 5 lambs this year.

7 Issue 1: January & February 2018 Page 7 Read Carefully! Purchasing Your 2018 Dairy Feeder: Feeders must be qualified single dairy breed male calves of the Holstein or Brown Swiss breed ONLY! Utilize Purchasing Your Dairy Feeder handout and the Breed Characteristics Chart included in the 2018 Clark County 4-H Project Requirement Guide for Dairy Feeders when making your dairy feeder selections - Feeders must be castrated & dehorned by the May 12, Weigh-In & Tag-In or they will not be tagged. As a service to dairy feeder project members, Northside Vet Clinic is offering extended Saturday hours from 1 PM to 2 PM to castrate and dehorn dairy feeders at the clinic for a set fee on March 17 and 24 and April 14 and 21, please call for more details or to schedule an appointment. Feeders must weigh 350 to 650 lbs. by the Clark County Fair Weigh-In on Friday, July 20. May Tag In A Maximum of 5 Dairy Feeders, Show 2 and Sell 1 Feeder at the 2018 Clark County Fair! New Market Poultry Order Requirement for all Clark Co. 4-H & FFA Exhibitors Any member wanting to show market turkeys, market ducks or meat chickens at the 2018 Clark County Jr. Fair must order their day old birds through the Clark County 4-H & FFA Rabbit & Poultry Committee. This new rule was enacted to help members obtain the right type of birds, have correct NPIP papers and enable members to get birds in a timely manner to meet weight requirements. Use the Clark County Market Poultry Order Form on-line at clark.osu.edu to order your birds by the deadlines listed below. Order Market Turkeys by March 4. Minimum of 6 tom turkeys at $7/bird per order form. Pick up tom turkeys on April 4, 4-7 PM, Ext. Office. Order meat Chickens and meat Ducks by May 7. Minimum of 6 meat chickens ($3/bird) or 3 meat ducks ($4/duck) per order form. Pick up June 6, 4-7 PM, Ext. Office. Payment for birds must be made with order form. 4-H Dairy Clinic & QA When: Sat., Feb. 3, 2018 Time: 9 AM to 11 AM Where: Mercantile Bldg., Clark Co. Fgrds. What: Selection of dairy feeders and dairy heifers and cows, veterinarian to discuss health care, feed practices, rule changes, quality assurance and more for all dairy projects. Door prizes and refreshments provided by the Clark County Dairy Committee and local sponsors. One of the door prizes is a certificate for a dairy calf for the feeder project. 4-H Swine Selection Clinic & QA When: Thurs., March 22, Time: 6:30 PM-8:30 PM Where: Annex., Fgrds. What: Selection of market hogs, health, feeding and management practices, rule changes, quality assurance and more. Door prizes provided by the Clark County Swine Committee and local sponsors.
