2 Welcome - to our 2013 Joint Production Sale As we prepare for our 45th annual sale, we remember this past year as the worst drought in history. Cattlemen have had to cull deeper than ever before but the prices for cull cows and feeder steers have remained extremely high. Cattle numbers are down but when it rains, and believe me it will, the prices for cattle will be unbelievable. Now may be the best time to invest in cattle that will pay tremendous dividends in the future. Our cattle are managed very similar to good commercial cattle producers which ensures that their productivity will continue in your herd. The bulls that we have to offer this year run deep in quality. They have the capacity and natural thickness to put on pounds without having to feed high energy diets. The AI sires and our herd sires are selected for a combination of calving ease, maternal, performance and carcass quality. Our her sires from Schaff s Angus Valley and Musgrave Angus are doing an outstanding job and can compete with any AI sire. The Dethlefs and Treffer Angus Ranches Volume Discount Discounts will be offered at 3% for three bulls, 4% for four bulls and 5% for five or more bulls. Free Delivery Bulls will be delivered free of charge in Nebraska or if you haul sale day, $50 will be deducted per bull. Nutrition The yearling bulls have been housed at the bull development center of Darr Feedlots, Inc. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Cattle will sell under the Standard Terms and Conditions recommended by the American Angus Association. The terms of the sale are cash. All settlements must be made at the close of the auction. Any disputes as to bids shall be settled by the auctioneer, whose decision shall be final and shall bind purchases to the announcement of the sale and sale price. Special care has been taken to insure the accuracy in the matter of pedigrees and information included in this catalog, but we are not to be held responsible for any error which may appear and is beyond our control. Corrections that may be discovered prior to the sale will be announced at the time of selling. GUARANTEE: All bulls selling for over $2000 are guaranteed against breeding injury or death for the first breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turn-out of the bulls. Notification must be received by the breeder by September 1, Credit for the amount of purchase price minus $2000 will be applied toward a replacement bull if one is available or applied to a purchase in next year s sale. The buyer keeps all salvage value on the injured bull. SALE DAY PHONE: (308) HERD HEALTH: All cattle were vaccinated with two doses of modified live vaccine including IBR, PI3, BRSV, BVD and Pasteurella, as well as a Clostridial 7-Way/Haemophilus vaccination. They were poured in the fall with Ivermectin for internal and external parasites. Outof-state buyers will be furnished with necessary health papers. HERD TESTING: All the bulls selling have been tested free of Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM), Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH) and Contractural Arachnodactyly (CA) or are free by pedigree. All bulls have been tested negative for persistently infected BVD. The Dethlefs cowherd has also been tested free of Johne s disease. SEMEN TESTING: All bulls in the sale have passed a strict breeding soundness exam consisting of semen evaluation for motility, morphology, concentration and presence of WBC s. They were also checked to be free of penile warts or persistent frenulum. FE DELIVERY: Bulls will be delivered free of charge in Nebraska or if you haul sale day, $50 will be deducted per bull. INSURANCE: American Livestock Insurance, will be available sale day to insure purchases if so desired. 6 FENCE SI We felt that Black Magic was the buy of the 2010 SAV sale being sired by the popular Bismarck and out of a full sister in blood to Net Worth. He combined balanced EPDs and tremendous performance into a phenotypically flawless package. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed as a carrier for CA (Contractural Arachnodatyly) so this will be his last calf crop for us. The bulls in the sale are tested free of CA unless otherwise noted. 19 SHOW RING SUCCESS You Go Girl! Aliesha Dethlefs, a fourth generation Angus breeder, exhibited DAR Ali s Blackbird 119 at the 2013 Nebraska Cattlemen s Classic. She was the Champion and high selling Angus heifer, then went on to be named Supreme Champion heifer against 12 other breeds. She is a May 2011 heifer sired by SAV Broadwalk 9276 out of a Lutton 1831 daughter. It was a great honor for the whole family to earn Supreme Champion honors at the Nebraska Cattlemen s Classic, even though it took 22 years and three generations of showing at the Classic to achieve this goal.
