1 SUJRA Event Rules Sack Roping: Junior Boys Objective: Ropers will ride to a white line encircling a straw-filled gunny sack, standing on end supported by a stick. Ropers will rope the gunny sack, pull slack, and complete one full dally before pulling sack out of circle and race across finish line with sack in tow. 1. Ropers will have a 2 minute time limit to complete event. 2. Ropers can throw two loops to rope the sack, one rope carried, rebuild own loop Second penalty will ensue for each horse s hoof that is on or crosses inside the circle. 4. Sack will be re positioned if knocked over. 5. Roper will receive a no time for failure to complete one full dally prior to pulling sack out of the circle. Failure to hold dally until sack has crossed finish line and losing the sack prior to it crossing the finish line will also result in a no time. 6. The circle around sack will be 14 in diameter. Barrels: Senior Girls, Junior Girls, Super Peewees, Peewee Girls and Peewee Boys Objective: Rider will perform a clover leaf pattern around three barrels in fastest time possible second penalty for knocking over a barrel. 2. NT will be given for breaking the pattern or crossing the finish line prior to completing the pattern. 3. Standard size Pattern will be used and will be modified to fit arena if needed. Will maintain 20+ separation between barrels and fences. Will allow approximately 75 from fence to the start line, from start line to line between barrels 1 and 2. Approximately 90 between barrels 1 and 2 and 105 from barrels 1 and 2 to barrel Other standard rules apply. 5. Electric timers will be used when available. Poles: Senior Girls, Junior Girls, Peewee Girls and Peewee Boys. Objective: Ride though a standard 6 pole pattern as quickly as possible.
2 1. Standard pole pattern will apply. 21 from start line to first pole and 21 between each additional pole second penalty will apply for each pole knocked over. 3. NT will be given for a broken pattern or crossing over finish line prior to completing the pattern. 4. Rider may touch poles to prevent them from falling over. 5. Rider may ride down either side. 6. Electric timers will be used when available. Flags: Peewee Girls and Boys, Junior Boys, Senior Boys. Objective: Rider will race on horse with one flag in hand to the first barrel that has a 5 gl bucket filled with oats to 4 from top. Racer will stick flag into bucket. The rider will then race to a second barrel in a horseshoe pattern retrieving a second flag from the bucket on top of the second barrel and race across finish line. 1. No time will be given for the following: Missing sticking or picking either flag, breaking the pattern, knocking over a bucket or barrel, and/or using the flag to whip horse. 2. Barrels will be placed feet apart with a minimum of 20 from fences. Approximately 100 from start/finish line. 3. If flag is stuck and then falls out, it will be considered a miss and no time. 4. Flags will be approximately 16 long. 5. Second flag will be placed in center of bucket and will protrude out of second bucket a minimum of 5 6. Buckets will be placed in the center of the barrels. 7. Electric timers will be used when available. Dummy Roping: Super Peewees. Objective: Roper will cross a starting line, swing rope overhead, throw loop and legally catch a heading roping dummy, pulling the slack to end time. 1. This is a 3 time averaged event. Each roper will rope the dummy 3 times. 2. Fishing is only allowed in Super Peewee and Peewee division. 3. Starting line will be approximately 15 away from the horns of the dummy.
3 4. Ropers will not cross the roping line located behind the butt of the dummy. Ropers may throw from anywhere behind the roping line. 5. Ropers must have a legal head catch to receive a time. (Slick horns, Half Head, Neck catch) Figure eight will be considered a miss and NT. 6. Roping dummy will be a Jake Steer, Bones or other heading roping dummy with average sized horns. 7. Must swing rope over head at least once prior to throwing. 8. **Time will start upon crossing the start line and will stop upon pulling slack. Super Peewees may swing rope prior to crossing the start line without the time starting. Dummy Roping: Peewee Girls and Boys. Objective: Roper will cross a starting line, swing rope overhead, throw loop, and legally catch a heading roping dummy pulling the slack to end time. 1. This is a 3 time averaged event. Each roper will rope the dummy 3 times. 2. Fishing is only allowed in Super Peewee and Peewee division. 3. Starting line will be approximately 15 away from the horns of the dummy. 4. Juniors will start in a ready position approximately 15'- 20 behind the horns of the dummy. 2. Ropers must have a legal head catch to receive a time. (Slick horns, Half Head, Neck catch) Figure eight will be considered a miss and NT. 3. No Fishing allowed.
4 4. Ropers will not cross the roping line that will be determined at time of roping.. Ropers may throw from anywhere in between the start line and the Roping lines. 5. This is a 3 time averaged event. Each roper will have 3 times to rope the dummy. 6. Roping dummy will be a Jake Steer, Bones or other heading roping dummy with average sized horns. 7. Must swing rope over head at least once prior to throwing. 8. Ropers will start in standing still ready position. **Time will start upon movement to cross line or upon hand movement initiating swing and will stop upon pulling slack. Breakaway Roping: Junior Girls and Boys and Senior Girls and Boys. Objective: Contestant will rope a calf/steer from the back of a horse with a rope that is connected to the saddle horn by a string (provided) and will have the calf/steer break the rope away from the saddle horn in the fastest time possible. 1. Rope must pass over calf s head, and may come tight on any part of calf s body behind the head. Catch as catch can. 2. If horned roping steers are used, Senior ropers must perform a legal head catch to receive a time. Junior ropers may catch as catch can. Juniors will receive a time if the rope comes tight on any part of steer's head/horns or body and breaks away from horn. 3. There will be a cone marking score line approximately 10 in front of roping box. Ropers will receive a 10 second penalty for roping the calf prior to crossing the line. 4. Time will start upon calf s/steer's nose crossing score line and finish upon rope breaking away. 5. Calf/steer must break rope away; contestants will receive a NT for breaking rope away themselves. 6. A white flag (provided) must be tied onto the knot end of the rope. 7. One loop only. 8. Juniors will have 60 seconds, seniors will have 30 seconds. 9. Ropers will start in the right side roping box for calves and may choose to rope from left if steers are used. Contingent on left sided box present. Team Roping: Senior Girls and Boys Objective: Contestant with partner of choosing will perform a standard Team Roping event. The object of which is for one team member to rope a steer by the head, dally and turn the steer for the other team member to rope the steer by the hind legs. They will then stretch and face each other with the steer in between them.
5 1. Contestant may head or heal Score line will be marked and 10 second penalty will ensue for roping steer prior to nose crossing score line. 3. Time will start upon Steer's nose crossing score line and finish upon face and stretch. 4. Crossfire rule will apply. 5. Legal head catches only second penalty for catching one leg. 7. This is a 3 loop roping between the two team members. May only carry one rope second time limit. 9. If two contestants rope together, points will only be given to the one contestant s name that was called. 10. Contestant may rope with any partner of their choosing. Ribbon Roping: Senior Boys Objective: Team will consist of two senior boys. One team member on horseback will rope a calf, dally, and control calf so the second member on foot may remove a ribbon tied to calf s tail and carry it across the finish line. 1. Breakaway calves will be used. Horned steers may be used based on availability of calves Score line in front of chute. 10 second penalty for catching calf prior to nose crossing score. 3. Score line will serve as start and finish line. 4. Roper will start in right sided box for calves, and may choose right or left box if horned steers are to be used. Contingent on left sided box present ribbon will be tied to calf's tail with rubber band second time limit. 7. Roper may use 2 loops, one rope. 8. If ribbon falls off after calf has been roped, Roper must dally and hold calf until runner has picked up the ribbon. 9. Team will receive a No Time for the following: failure to dally and hold calf, dragging calf to runner, crossing finish line without ribbon. 10. Roper will catch and hold calf, no dragging allowed. 11. If ribbon falls off prior to being caught, Judge will grant a re-run. 12. For an odd number of contestants wishing to enter, one senior boy may be allowed to participate twice. That contestant must indicate which team he would like his points to be counted towards upon entry. 13. Runner may start at any point in the arena. Mock Goat Tie: Peewee Girls and Boys Objective: Mounted contestant will race across starting line to a standing goat tying dummy staked on a 10 leash; 100 from starting line. Contestant will dismount horse, flank and tie dummy goat correctly, and throw hands in air to signal time stop.
6 1. Same rules apply for standard goat tying. 2. Boys must use pigging string; girls will use goat string. 3. Contestant must tie goat correctly and pull wraps tight. 4. Boys must put loop over front leg, cross front and back two legs, wrap all three legs twice, and place hooey or half hitch over back two or all three. Pull wraps tight and throw hands in air. 5. Girls will perform a standard goat tie, wrapping twice and pulling tight. 6. Goat Tier will receive a No Time for an incorrect tie, wraps are too loose, or not pulling tight. Will be determined by arena judge/flagger. 7. Contestant will receive a No Time for readjusting tie after throwing hands in air. 8. If Goat falls over prior to contact, contestant must pick up flank and throw goat before tying. 9. A Hooey Tuf Goat, goat tying dummy will be used for this event. 10. There will be a 60 Second time limit. Goat Tie: Senior Girls and Boys, Junior Girls and Boys. Objective: Mounted contestant will race across starting line to a goat on a 10 leash 100 from starting line. Contestant will dismount, flank and tie goat correctly, and throw hands in air to signal time stop. 1. Contestants will perform standard goat ties; boys will use pigging strings and girls will use goat strings. 2. May tie any three legs. 3. If goat is kneeling or lying, contestant must lift goat up high enough for goat to regain feet, then throw and tie goat. 4. Goat must stay tied for at least 6 seconds second penalty will apply if horse touches goat or goat leash. 6. Contestant will receive a No Time for touching goat after throwing hands in air and for goat not staying tied for allotted time. 7. Goat will be held at the end of the leash, standing and facing the contestant upon contestant crossing start line. At that point goat will be let go. 8. There will be a 30 Second time limit Goat Ribbon Pull: Super Peewees Objective: Mounted contestant will race across starting line to a goat on a 3 leash 100 from starting line. Contestant will dismount, pull a ribbon from goat s tail, and race across the finish line 10 from goat stake in the direction of the start line second penalty will apply if horse touches goat or goat rope. 2. Contestant will receive a No Time for crossing finish line without ribbon. 3. Finish line will be clearly marked.
