2 Youth Horse Challenge Record Book Information ACCURATE RECORDS SHOULD BE KEPT THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE PROJECT, BUT NOT PRIOR TO MAY 1, Guidelines 1. FULFILLING YOUR RECORD BOOK AND SHOW REQUIREMENTS In order to fulfill your Youth Horse Challenge contest requirements, you must complete the following: A. Enter the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Youth Horse Challenge by January 25, Individual Club and Chapter deadlines may be earlier. To enter, please visit B. Complete the enclosed Record Book pages and submit the requested Record Book items to the Horse Show Office at If you need additional pages, please feel free to make additional copies. DO NOT USE YOUR OWN FORMAT. The information requested in this packet is the minimum requirements of the Youth Horse Challenge Record Book. C. Compete with your entered horse in the Youth Horse Challenge at the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. 2. RECORD BOOK DEADLINE Record Books must be submitted and received in the Horse Show Office no later than February 1, RECORD BOOK ROUND Record Books must meet the minimum requirements are eligible for the Record Book Round. Judging of the Youth Horse Challenge Record Books will be based on the following: 6 points Completeness 6 points Accuracy 5 points Content 5 points Media: Photos & Videos 3 points Essay Questions Total points possible: JUDGING AND RELEASE OF RECORD BOOKS Record Books received after February 1, 2018 will be assessed a 10 point penalty and may not be judged or considered for competition. Any Record Book received after judging has begun will receive a score of 0. Results will be announced after the final round of the Youth Horse Challenge. EXPENSES PROJECT INVESTMENT In addition to the Youth Horse Challenge rules and regulations, contestants are required to follow the guidelines as listed in the 2018 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Horse Show Premium List. Complete the following summary for the entered horse. The horse should be designated in this report by the registered name, or if unregistered, use the same nickname consistently. EXPENSES - EQUIPMENT INVESTMENT PURCHASED NEW All equipment used for your Youth Horse Challenge project from May 1, 2017 until the completion of the project in February 2018 must be inventoried and accounted for. Any new items purchased should be listed with the purchase price. Copy all receipts for items purchased and include them in the Record Book following this page. If more than one page is required, duplicate this page and carry over the subtotals at the bottom of each page to the next page. The final page should reflect cumulative totals. 8 V. EXPENSES - ANIMAL HEALTH Proper medical attention should be provided to maintain the health of the horse. Complete the following chart of animal health services after May 1, This may include, but is not limited to, vaccinations, de-worming, medications, dental work, hoof care and shoeing, and health papers. 10 VII. INCOME - REVENUE GENERATED FROM PROJECT It is important to understand the value of your project by maintaining accurate records of how much money your project may generate. Complete the following chart listing any instances where you received a return on your Youth Horse Challenge project. Only income after May 1, 2017 should be included. 13 PHOTOS X. MEDIA You must submit photos of your horse taken after May 1, Photos should include: 1. A minimum of one photo of your horse at the beginning of this project 2. A minimum of one photo of you performing groundwork with your horse 3. A minimum of one photo of you riding your horse 4. A minimum of one photo of handling your horse around or over an obstacle 5. A minimum of one grooming and/or feeding photo with your horse 6. A minimum of one fun photo of your choice that best illustrates time spent with your horse 7. A minimum of one self portrait of you and your horse 8. A minimum of one photo of your horse towards the completion of this project Photos should be digitally pasted into a Word document, then saved as a pdf file. Include a caption for each photo with the date the photo was taken and a description of the photo. The photos must be ed to horse@sarodeo.com. Subject line should read YHC Photos [Contestant Name]. Dates s were sent: VIDEOS You must submit at least two video clips representing work done with your horse. At least one video should be from the start of your project, and at least one video should be towards the completion of your project. The videos can be from a smartphone or other video recorder, and should be two to three minutes in length. The video can be ed or uploaded to YouTube.
