1 BITS N PIECES Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association Newsletter May 2017 OQHA President s Letter I have been in office for almost four months now, and I cannot begin to express how thankful I am for all of the hard work of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. The Spring Show was a great success, due in large part to the mobilization of our members. I would like to thank everyone who made the show possible, and donated their time as volunteers. Without your effort, we could not have such largely attractive shows, this one has grown another 800 entries! Moving the horse show in front of the AQHA Level 1 Championship in April proved to be great timing. I would like to thank Jackie Krshka and Michelle Wrigley who were integral to the show s success. Looking forward, the Redbud Spectacular is just around the corner. As one of the largest shows in the country, hosted in Oklahoma City by OQHA, we should all look to promote our association, and use it as a showcase of all the hard work we do! Please visit our website to enter, reserve stalls or be a sponsor! Shortly after the Redbud, we have the opportunity to help spread our passion for the American Quarter Horse during 2017 AQHA Merial Region 8 Championship Horse Show, held in Amarillo, TX, June 14-18, the Region 8 show caters to everyone from novice to open competitors, but is an especially great opportunity for first time exhibitors. AQHA has secured Montana Silversmith, Merial and Noble Outfitters as a sponsor. Look for information at their new web address And a big thanks to Cindy Chilton-Moore, Alice Holmes and Jackie Krshka for all of your hard work to make the Merial Region 8 Championship such a success year after year! Don t forget to mark your calendars now for this year s Western Heritage Days. This wonderful event takes place on September 27th this year, we need as many volunteers as possible to help facilitate such an opportunity for the Oklahoma School for the Blind. If you are interested, please contact Sharon breeding at , or sbreeding@cox.net. Lastly, nominations for the 2018 Hall of Fame are due by June 1, 2017, please help us identify the very deserving individuals for this great honor. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Chilton- Moore at (918) or ropinghorse@aol.com Dedicated to promoting the American Quarter Horse in Oklahoma through sharing information, events and activities for the amateur, youth and professional horsemen. As always, enjoy our great American Quarter Horse, Rebecca Halvorson OQHA President In This Issue The Redbud Spectacular will be held June 1-11 at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. The Oklahoma Amateur Quarter Horse Association A Day at the Races was a great success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Tebows for hosting this event, and the OAQHA Board members who participated in selling tickets and obtaining/donating silent auction items. We raised several hundred dollars for our Novice Show, and had a great time as well. The OAQHA Novice Show is scheduled for September 16, 2017, in Purcell. I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather, and will look forward to seeing many of you at the Redbud Spectacular. Also we will be having a swimming party immediately afterwards so be sure to put this date on your calendar and join us! The tour is limited to 60 visitors (parents and siblings welcome!!) so please RSVP. Next, the Redbud Spectacular is coming up very soon and we are having several fundraiser events. First, we will be continuing our pre-bedding fundraiser. We need AT LEAST 20 youth and parents help to prepare stalls before trainers arrive with their horses. Please cheyenne.oqhya@gmail.com if you are available to help Sunday, Monday and/or Tuesday before the Redbud Show. Along with this we will be holding the basket auction and need approximately 36 baskets donated. Each basket donated earns 1 fundraising credit toward eligibility for year-end awards. Also, don t forget about our Trainer/Leadline contest that will take place during the progressive dinner. Be putting together a winning costume for you and your trainer! Lastly, make sure to register for YES (the Youth Excellence Seminar) now! The early registration ends June 1 and the price is $110. It is an additional $25 after June 1. We would like a large group to attend this year from Oklahoma and we are able to carpool, share hotel rooms, and chaperone for your convenience!! This is a fun leadership event that takes place in Amarillo, Texas, July You will meet new friends from across the country, tour the AQHA hall of fame, and gain leadership skills! Please request to join the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Youth Association on Facebook. This is a private group and we will add you as a member! You can stay informed of our events through this page.
