10 Entry Information & Horse Show Rules Entry Deadline MAILED ENTRIES: All Dixie National horse show pre-entries must be postmarked by January 17, 2017 (official post marks recognized). It is recommended that horse show entries be sent certified mail. The show secretary is not responsible for lost or late entries and is unable to verify receipt of entries due to the volume of mail received. ANY ENTRIES POSTMARKED AFTER JANUARY 17, 2017, WILL BE ASSESSED ANY APPLICABLE LATE FEES. ED ENTRIES: All ed entries must be received by January 17, ANY ENTRIES RECEIVED AFTER JANUARY 17, 2017, WILL BE ASSESSED ANY APPLICABLE LATE FEES. CONFIRMATION: An address must be included for entry confirmation. 11 Late Entries Late entries are accepted at the show office during the show only. The penalty for a late entry at the show is $50 per horse. All late fee/entries must be received no later than 1 HOUR before the first class of the day begins. Payment Policy Entries may be paid by check, cash, money order, or credit card. The entry fees listed are giving the discount if paid by check, cash or money order. A $50 CHECK PROCESSING FEE WILL BE CHARGED FOR ANY NSF CHECK OR STOP PAYMENT CHECK. AN OFFICE FEE OF 5% WILL BE ASSESSED TO ALL CREDIT CARD CHARGES. Entries are not officially made until payment clears the bank. Registration Papers Please send a copy of each horse s current registration papers with all entries. If the papers are currently being transferred, etc., during time of entry, you must bring the updated papers to the Dixie National Show Office to receive your back number. Novice permits ARE NOT allowed at the Dixie National. Non-owned horses are not eligible to be shown in Novice Classes due to AQHA rule SHW Membership Cards Please send a copy of all owners and exhibitors AQHA, NSBA, and NRHA (all that apply) current membership cards with your entry. If you do not have the current cards at entry time, you must bring them to the show office or purchase what is needed. Both front and back copies are needed for membership cards. NRHA All horses competing in NRHA-approved events will be required to have an NRHA competition license. The competition license MUST be purchased PRIOR to the show. Please contact NRHA for this. To enter NRHA approved events, the competition license, rider s membership card and/or pro card, as well as the membership card of the owners listed on competition license must be current and copies included with your entry forms. Memberships can be purchased at the show if you are riding in a non-pro class. 10

12 NSBA Exhibitors and owners are REQUIRED to send in copies of their current NSBA cards. Memberships can be purchased at the show office. Reminder NSBA memberships expire on 12/31/16. Any expired or NEW NSBA memberships fees will be charged to agent s account and must be paid. Performance Halter All horses entered in a Performance Halter class must include a copy of their Register of Merit or proof of Register of Merit with the entry forms. Animal Welfare AQHA rules pertaining to animal welfare will be strictly enforced. Anyone found in violation of these rules may be subject to disqualification and/or penalties and fines as defined by AQHA rules. Medication Rules AQHA rules will be enforced. All horses are subject to drug testing by an AQHA representative. Health Paper Requirements: PLEASE NOTE The Dixie National Quarter Horse Show requires that all horses entering the Mississippi Fairgrounds (including those from Mississippi) that are 12 months of age or older must have and present a current (12 months) negative EIA (Coggins) report and a 30-day Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Certificate). (ORIGINAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE ONLY, PHOTOCOPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED). Certificates will be checked by the MS. Board of Animal Health at the livestock gate (Gate 14). No animals other than equine and cattle will be allowed inside buildings on the fairgrounds except properly identified service animals. Refunds/Substitutes Refunds of entry and stall fees will be considered only in the event of death or serious injury of the horse entered. A signed and dated vet certificate must be presented at the show office no later than 5:00 p.m. the afternoon prior to the first class entered. Any occupied stall is NON-REFUNDABLE. Refunds will be sent to the agent who paid the entry fee(s). Scratches will receive NO REFUND. Any extenuating circumstances will be ruled upon by the show manager. 11

13 Substitutes will be considered due to lameness, injury or death only if the show manager is furnished with a veterinarian s written statement PRIOR to the time the class is called, and the substitute must be approved by the show manager. Notify the show office/gate management of any change in exhibitors or the entry will be subject to disqualification. Working Orders Working Orders or splits will be posted by 8:30 p.m. the evening PRIOR to the day the class is held. Any late entries will be added to the working order. Exhibitors MUST ride in splits or working order as posted UNLESS otherwise approved by the arena manager. Conflicts in Scheduling With two arenas operating, there could be an entry conflict. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to notify the arena manager of an entry conflict PRIOR to the start of the class so that an adjustment can be made in the working order or draw. Stick Horse Class Rules: This class is for ages 10 and under. Western attire is preferred, spurs and chaps are optional. If you do not have western attire, come as you are and have fun. Participants will be judged at a walk, trot and lope going in both directions. Awards will be provided. If you have a stick horse, bring it, if not loaners are available. Patterns Patterns will be posted on the MQHA.org web site by Feb. 01, Patterns will also be available in the show office. Patterns will be posted at the arenas by 8:30 p.m. the evening prior to the day the class is held. Practice Riding Schedule Schedules for the Coliseum and Equine Center, will be posted. The use of lunge lines will not be allowed in the Show Arenas. These arenas and areas will be supervised by appointed AQHA and MQHA personnel who will have the sole discretion to eject any exhibitor from said areas for inhumane treatment and/or training of their horse. Your cooperation will be expected! Unless otherwise posted, lunging in Barn 4 and Barn 11 is prohibited while the show is in progress. The Livestock Judging Arena will be available at all times for lunging. 12

14 Exhibitor Numbers Numbers will be assigned to each horse at the time of entry, which shall stand for the entire show, and must be displayed whenever the horse is being exhibited. It is highly recommended that Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, and Hunter Hack exhibitors use saddle pads with the number on both sides in all classes. Motorized Vehicles No small motorized vehicles except golf carts are allowed on the fairgrounds. ALL vehicles, INCLUDING GOLF CARTS, must be operated by a licensed driver. UTV s will be used for official vehicles only. Golf Cart Rental & Reservations Golf carts will be available for rent. Anyone interested in renting a golf cart may contact Ben Nelson at (601) or for reservations and rates. Trailers Trailers with or without horses will enter and exit the show grounds ONLY through Gate 14. RV Reservations For information on RV hook-ups, contact the Coliseum office: Coliseum P. O. Box 892 Jackson, MS Phone: MQHA does not take reservations for RV hook- ups. Parking Exhibitors may park in designated areas ONLY. Vehicles in FIRE LANES or NO PARKING AREAS will be towed. All fines and towing fees are at the owner s expense. Interpretation of Rules The right to settle all questions or disputed incidents at the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show is reserved by the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show Manager, or their designated representative. All exhibitors or other participants, as a condition of admission, consent to such method and agree to be bound thereby by their entry form. Any objection to the award of the judge shall be lodged with the Show Manager immediately after the award is made. 13

15 Right of Removal The horse show committee and Mississippi Quarter Horse Association reserves the right to prohibit any person or horse from showing and to remove any person or horse from the grounds, for ANY REASON, without being liable for compensation. Right of Cancellation The Mississippi Quarter Horse Association can cancel the events without notice and without liability any time prior to the contests. In this case, fees will be refunded. Photography and Videographer Release The Mississippi Quarter Horse Association may film and photograph spectators, owners, trainers, exhibitors and horses participating in the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show to compile publicity, live Webcast of the event or for use in promotional materials, as it determines. By participating, owners, trainers and exhibitors agree that no compensation shall be due from MQHA, the Dixie National or any third party for the publications and/or broadcast of their likeness, picture and names, etc. All participants agree and understand and acknowledge that official Dixie videographers, photographers and mass media approved by MQHA have full access to the Dixie at any time. This includes the use of flashes and other photo and video equipment. All exhibitors agree and understand and that they should be prepared for official photographers, videographers and/or approved mass media taping and /or taking pictures of warm-ups, competition, etc., and upon this condition only are entries accepted. Liability for Loss or Damage The Dixie National committee and Mississippi Quarter Horse Association assumes no responsibility in case of loss or damage to persons, horses, or personal property, from any cause, and upon this condition only are entries accepted. Media Credentials To obtain media credentials, please fill out the media credential form available at and send the completed form to All media credential requests must be received by January 17th 2017, so that all necessary information can be sent to you prior to the show. If requests are not received by January 17th, credential requests must be made at the show office and approved by the show manager. Upon arrival, all media representatives must stop by the show office to pick up their media packet. Additional background information, news releases and assistance setting up interviews with show officials will be available there as well. Please refrain from approaching exhibitors who are about to enter the arena to compete. Also, please note that the members of the media are not permitted to enter the arena during competition. 14

In all classes money, awards and prize winners will be determined based on composite placings of all four judges, and the composite winner will be Dixie National Champion. EXCEPTIONS: In timed events and roping, money will be based on time. In Cutting, Working Cowhorse and Reining, composite winner will be based on combined judges scores. In case of ties, money will be divided equally among exhibitors involved with one judge pre-designated as tie-breaker for awards. Premium Payments It is the Dixie s goal to have payback checks available in the Finance Office one hour following the conclusion of the class. All monies will be paid to the individual that pays the entry fee unless otherwise specified in writing to the show secretary at time of entry receipt. Prize money will be paid per schedule on page 15 (exception being NSBA Futurity Classes). All timed events and roping monies will be calculated based on the number of horses SHOWN in the class, except where rules state otherwise. Checks will be mailed by March 31, 2017, and must be cashed within ninety days. NO claims will be honored by the Dixie National after July 1st of the year in which the premiums are won. Premiums will be paid to the person paying entry fees. Social Security number and address of entry fee payee MUST be on entry form. A W-9 form will be required to be filled out in the Finance Office. It is the Dixie s goal to have payback checks available in the Finance office one hour following the conclusion of the class. If not picked up, checks will be mailed by March 31, 2017 as long as all entry fees have been paid, bank cleared and all required information has been received. 17

20 English All-Around Award An English All-Around Award will be awarded to the high point horse in the OPEN English classes of the show. The All-Around recipient must exhibit in at least 3 English classes. Pleasure Driving is considered an English class. Level 1 Youth & Level 1 Amateur Hi Point Award A Level 1 Youth Hi- Point & a Level 1 Amateur High Point Plaque will be presented to the winner of the most composite points earned in each division. Youth and Amateur Halter points will be included. Andrew McBeath Memorial High Point Open Cattle Event Award A Open Cattle High Point Saddle will be awarded to the highpoint horse in all open classes held on Tuesday and Wednesday. The recipient must show at least once in at least 3 different events. High Point/All-Around Ties In case of a tie in any of the High Point/All Around Awards, the official rules of AQHA will be followed.
