2 4-H LEADERS COUNCIL MEETING There will be a 4-H Leaders Council meeting on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 7:00p.m., 1000 Broadway in El Centro. The tentative agenda will consist of: the Annual Barbecue fundraiser, National 4- H Week, citizenship interviews, and the work committee to help with the meat trimming on Saturday, before the barbecue. As you can see there is a full agenda and all 4-H clubs need to be present. Your input is very important to the 4-H program. Please plan to attend and bring a friend! Some 4-H clubs have yet to pick up their barbecue tickets. Please call Sally Traylor at or the 4-H office at and ask Jennifer, the 4-H Secretary. All 4-H clubs are expected to participate in the 4-H fundraiser. In order to have a successful fundraiser, we must sell those barbecue tickets! 4-H LIVESTOCK LEADERS MEETING What: Livestock Leaders Meeting When: October 19, :00p.m. Where: Farm Bureau Auditorium 1000 Broadway El Centro The tentative agenda will consist of distribution of auction checks, premium book changes, livestock purchasing dates, and training sessions for the 4-H livestock youth. All interested leaders are urged to attend this meeting. MEAT TRIMMERS NEEDED 4-H Leaders are needed to help trim barbecue meat on Saturday, October 21, H Leaders are asked to be present at the Country Meat Store, 438 Walnut Ave. in Holtville, at 8:30a.m. sharp! Adult leaders are needed. Please bring your own sharp knife, dress warmly, and be prepared to trim about 4,500 pounds of meat. The more leaders helping out, the sooner we will finish. Last year we were done in three hours. Please no children allowed! It is too dangerous to have young children present. High-school age youth can be of help females are welcomed. We need all the help! CITIZENSHIP FOCUS 2007 Citizenship focus applications to Washington and Sacramento are due to the 4-H office by Wednesday, October 18, Interviews for both Sacramento and Washington will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 3:30p.m. Citizenship interviews are on a first-come-first served basis. All 4-H members wishing to go on either citizenship trip, must be present for an interview. Our 4-H Leaders Council offers scholarships for both Washington and Sacramento Focus (on a one time basis). Youth are encouraged to apply. Adult chaperones are also offered scholarships.
3 Remember if we have no adult chaperones there will be no trip. A $ non-refundable deposit and registration form for California Focus is due at the 4-H Office no later than January 22, A $ nonrefundable deposit and registration form for Washington Focus, is due at the 4-H Office no later than October 25, The following dates and amounts are for the focus trips: California Focus June 22 26, 2007 youth - $ adult - $ Washington Focus #1 Road to Democracy June 23 July 2, $1, Heritage Trail I June 23 30, $1, Washington Focus #2 Global Journey July 14 25, $2, Heritage Trail II July 14 21, $1, CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE As the 4-H club year begins, be sure you have your facility use permits. Remember that the county director may sign the facility use permits, so you must get them to the 4-H office as soon as possible. Please consider all projects and activities that may require dates and arrange for them at the same time i.e.: field days, parties, meetings, etc. Most school districts and facilities used last year, have already been issued certificates of insurance good for 5 years. This saves a lot of time and headaches. GAMES OF CHANCE ARE ILLEGAL Lotteries, raffles, bingo or other games of chance are illegal under California law. A statewide policy has been established so that all 4-H fundraisers conform to federal and state laws. Check with other clubs or the 4-H office, to find out what fundraisers have been successful. If you have any questions on your fundraisers call the 4-H Office. All fundraisers must be approved by the 4-H office. INSURANCE FEES The general accident insurance rate will continue at $4.00 for each leader and $8.00 for each member. Horse insurance will be the same $4.00 per adult and $8.00 per youth for each horse member. The county 4-H office will need a list, signed by the community leaders, that paid insurance premiums. Remember 4-H enrollment forms are due at the 4-H office no later than Tuesday, October 10, Why didn't the skeleton go to the party? He had no body to go with!
4 4-H MEMBERSHIP Primary Members: must be at least 5 years old or in kindergarten by January 1, They may only have small animals cats, cavies, dogs, embryology, entomology, mice, hamsters, poultry, pygmy goats, rabbits, and rats. Regular 4-H Members: Must be at least 9 years old or in the 4 th grade by January 1, 2007, and may have any animal project. For Home Schooled Children: the age criteria only will apply. MEDICAL TREATMENT FORMS Leaders should have a signed medical treatment form (parent consent) for each member in their club or project. This is a must since a minor will not receive medical treatment without the parents or guardian s consent. For further information please contact the 4-H office at speak about 4-H projects, whether it be livestock, clothing and textiles, mini gardens, foods and nutrition, rocketry, arts and crafts and citizenship projects and the trips that are offered during the summer. 4-H clubs are asked to be present on October 7, 2006 between 12:00p.m. 4:00p.m. at the El Centro Valley Mall. Each club is to bring a table and chairs. I have information on the projects assigned to talk about and be prepared to talk about the 4-H club and what it offers. People that do not know about 4- H will be asking questions. Youth will want to know how to join. We are asking you to be prepared to answer all sorts of questions. More information on the 4-H Showcase at the mall will be given out at the next 4-H Leaders Council meeting on Thursday, October 5, Please have your representative present at this meeting. 4-H SHOWCASE AT THE MALL 4-H clubs are invited to attend the 4-H Showcase at the Imperial Valley Mall in El Centro. This is a chance for Imperial County 4-H clubs to put their best foot forward and show what their 4-H club has to offer. Let people know what a great club they belong to, and what it has to offer its members. Here s a chance to

EDUCATIONAL DISPLAY CONTEST: Sponsored by All Stars 1. An educational display is an organized visual presentation of a program or a concept. A display should be designed to convey its message in a limited amount of time. 2. There will be three categories: Project, Activity and 4-H Promotion. 3. A member may enter as an individual and/or as a Group. Two entries total per member. One Individual and one group. 4. There will be three Divisions: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior 4-H members. Primary members are welcomed for participation only. 5. Individual and Group Educational Displays will be judged separately. 6. Format: Educational Displays may exhibit one of the following display formats: Poster/Panel Display (Minimum approximately 24 x 36 Maximum Approximately 30 x 30 ) The panel is presented vertically on an easle. Card Table Display (Approximately 30 x 30 ) This format will feature a tri-fold poster board that may use a table as part of the display 7. Members are responsible for the setting up and the taking down of their Displays without the assistance of an adult. 8. Awards: American Style Mini Rosettes 1 st Place Blue, 2 nd Place Red, 3 rd Place White. Every participant, including Primary Members will receive a participation ribbon. 9. Entries are due to the Livestock Office at the Fairgrounds October 22, 2006 at 12:00 PM (The same day as the Imperial County 4-H Leaders Council BBQ) 10. Results will be announced at 3:00 PM. 6 Sunday - October 22, 2006 During the Imperial County Leaders Council BBQ Livestock Office, Fairgrounds Posters should be delivered by 12:00 PM to the livestock office. (Please arrange for them to be picked up at 5:00 PM) Poster should show some aspect of the 4-H program. Posters are designed to inform, inspire or promote, they should be eye catching but not cluttered. The colors should be artistically pleasing or designed to attract attention. You are responsible for bring your own table, easel, and other equipment you may need. Each member may enter a total of two entries one individual and one group.
