Sunday, August 26, 8:00 a.m. *Beginning with Senior Showmanship followed by Intermediate and Junior, heifer classes and cow classes (by breed). Dairy Show will be held in the Five Points Bank Arena. Sunday, August 26 at 12:00 Noon or when you have completed showing. OPEN & YOUTH SHOW ENTRY 4-H and FFA members may enter dairy animals in both the Youth Show and the Open Show, BUT MUST MAKE SEPARATE ENTRIES FOR EACH SHOW. Entry Fee: Youth Dairy - $25; Open Dairy Show - $35 (This includes an additional bedding fee). *Entries must be made by exhibitor. Entries must be made by 8:00 pm on August 10, 2018 via the Nebraska State Fair Open Class Entry site (the website will be posted). No fees for herd class. You will have the opportunity to print a receipt for those entered, if desired, as your confirmation of entry. *Entries for the Youth show and the Open show are separate entries; the entry is NOT duplicated if the animal is identified as both under either show. This is for stalling purposes only. If an animal is to be entered in each show, one entry must be made under each show.
3 DAIRY SHOW ORDER Registered and Grade animals of each breed will show together. The show order will be as follows: Brown Swiss, Guernseys, Holsteins, Jerseys, Milking Shorthorns, Ayrshires and Crossbreds. Crossbreds always show last. Heifer classes in all breeds will show first, followed by the selection of Supreme Junior Champion & Reserve Champion, followed by cow classes in all breeds and selection of Supreme Senior Champion & Reserve Champion. Showmanship Classes - age 10-11; age 12-13; age and age by January 1 of the current year. Heifer Classes by breed - Junior Champions selected at the conclusion of breed classes. Selection of Junior Supreme Champion & Reserve Champion Cow Classes by breed (Production awards will be given as animals are shown in class). Senior champions selected at the conclusion of breed classes. Selection of Senior Supreme Champion & Reserve Champion DAIRY SHOW RULES A. Nebraska State Fair General Livestock Information, Rules and Regulations, Health Requirements and 4-H/FFA rules apply to this department. Please refer to these sections. By submitting entry to the Nebraska State Fair, you agree to and will abide by these rules. B. HEALTH PAPERS - All dairy cattle must be accompanied by appropriate health certificates. Health certificates (CVI) must be presented at check in. ALL YOUTH DAIRY CATTLE MUST HAVE AN OFFICIAL ID ON THE CVI. (See General Livestock Health Requirements). C. NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER EXHIBITOR - A 4-H or FFA member is limited to six dairy animals. These may be either 4-H or FFA animals or a combination thereof. If three qualify as a herd, they may be entered and shown in the Junior Herd Class. D. ENTERING ANIMALS FOR THE SHOW All entries must be made individually by the exhibitor. Entry fee is $25.00 per head ($15.00 bedding fee included) for animals shown in youth show only. E. ARRIVAL TIME - Animals must be in place by 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, F. STALLING - Youth Dairy animals will be stalled among open dairy animals by chapters/counties. G. BEDDING - No straw is allowed for bedding. Woodchips for bedding are provided for each exhibitor. H. I.D. SHEETS FOR ANIMALS - All animals (both 4-H and FFA) entered in the youth dairy show must have proper identification sheets on file in the State 4-H Office (114 Ag Hall, UNL East Campus, Lincoln, NE ) by June 15 to be eligible for show. Exhibitors of animals must present Dairy Identification certificates or registration papers to show superintendent for inspection. Animals without complete and/or correct identification certificates will be ineligible to show. I. QUALITY ASSURANCE TRAINING - All exhibitors must have completed Quality Assurance training or testing through a UNL Extension or FFA program prior to the fair. Program attendance or completion of a test in the County Extension Office is required. Completion of training will be certified by County Extension staff or FFA Advisor. J. DAIRY CATTLE JUNIOR HERD - Exhibitors who have made entry in the Dairy Cattle Junior Herd Class must present their records (as indicated in the Dairy Production Class description) to verify production to the show superintendent when animals are checked in. Dairy Cattle Junior Herd may consist of both 4-H and FFA animals but each animal must be owned by the same exhibitor. Exhibitor may enter one Junior Dairy Herd. See Dairy Cattle Junior Herd Score Sheet. K. SUPREME CHAMPIONS - A Junior Supreme Champion and Reserve and Senior Supreme Champion and Reserve will be selected. Junior breed champions will return for the Junior Supreme Champion and Senior breed champions will return for the Senior Supreme Champion. The Junior Supreme Champion will be selected at the conclusion of the heifer classes and the Senior Supreme Champion will be selected one-half hour after the conclusion of the cow classes, allowing one-half hour for a mandatory milk-out of all senior breed champions. The Junior Supreme Champion will be awarded $100 and the Reserve Junior Supreme Champion will be awarded $50. The Senior Supreme Champion will be awarded $150 and the Reserve Senior Supreme Champion will be awarded $100. L. RELEASE OF DAIRY CATTLE Dairy cattle will be released at noon or when you are done showing. M. PREMIUMS - Premiums will be paid out as follows: Purple - $24, Blue - $22, Red - $20. Yearlings that have calved, freshening prior to show, must be shown in the Two Year Old class. If cows have been treated with RBST within the previous 30 days, they CAN NOT be milked in the parlor.
7 DAIRY PRODUCTION Production Award - A rosette will be awarded to each cow in milking classes that meets these production requirements (based on top 30% of herds in annual DHIA Summary of Herd Averages Report. BREED MILK PROTEIN Ayrshire 18, Brown Swiss 20, Guernsey 17, Holstein 25, Jersey 17, Milking Shorthorn 17, Crossbred 21, Awards presented on the basis of 305 2X ME records in progress for cows in milk and on the basis of the most recently completed 305 2X ME record for dry cows. 2. Exhibitor will provide DHIA herd identification and DHIA cow identification on entry form. Animal may qualify on either milk or protein production. 3. Show management will verify production information at check-in and complete the score card. DAIRY CATTLE JUNIOR HERD Exhibitor will enter three females in Junior Dairy Herd class. At least one of the three must be a cow that has freshened and has been fresh long enough to have a projected 305 day ME. All three must be of the same breed. Junior Dairy Herd may consist of both 4-H and FFA animals but each animal must be owned by the same exhibitor. Junior Dairy Herd class must be pre-entered with show entries. Production records to be used for scoring in the Junior Dairy Herd must meet the same criteria as those listed for Dairy Production Awards. Herds will be scored and awarded ribbons on the basis of the current Dairy Cattle Junior Herd Score Card. Supreme Junior Champion: $100 Reserve Supreme Junior Champion: $ 50 *To be selected at conclusion of heifer show on Sunday, August 26, 2018 Supreme Junior Champion: $150 Reserve Supreme Junior Champion: $ 50 *These animals must be milked out after their breed show. *The time for the Supreme and Reserve Champions is 30 minutes after last show on Sunday, August 26, 2018.
