4 ALTWASSER CHAROLAIS The industry has finally come back to life!! It s so nice to come to an auction and see the rancher being paid more realistically for their product! I, along with my wife Cheryl, would like to welcome you to our annual Valley Auction Charolais Bull Sale. We have been in the Purebred Charolais business for 36 years now, and can truthfully say it s been a wonderful journey, even though it has been as unpredictable as the weather! This year, we are offering 10 strong January yearling bulls. The power and consistency displayed by SVY Pilgrim 655S calves makes us confident we are adding a genetically strong influence to our herd. Pilgrim has a powerful top line, squared hips, sound leg structure, solid feet, and his mid section is uniform with his tremendous depth. His calving is as good as BOND s. Throughout our AI program last year, we used Pilgrim, a proven five year old. In order to provide consistency in our calves, Pilgrim added length, thickness, natural muscling and performance. In the CCA 2010 sire summary, Pilgrim s EPD s placed him in the top 2% for weaning weight, top 3% for yearling weight, top 10% for total maternal, top 4% for carcass weight, and the top 10% for marbling. He definitely compliments our BOND cows. As well, the replacement daughters from this cross are truly impressive. LT Bluegrass 4017 is a calving ease sire with doing ability and all around traits, which are proven over and over again. Bluegrass is used mainly on our heifers. SVS Nobleman 25N is also a proven Red Factor Sire. We used him on our tan heifers and tan cows. The only red son is Lot #4 in the sale. Our herd health program works closely with Dr. Ron Flater, our local Vet. The bulls are semen tested and guaranteed to breed. If you decide to purchase a bull at the sale, we would like to take him home, feed him until April, and deliver at no cost to you. Firstly, we would like to forward our sincere appreciation to all of our customers on their hard work and continual dedication to their cattle - you are what makes the cattle industry special! Rob's been saying that the cattle prices will get better for some time now (despite the rolling of eyes when he has said it) and we are now very pleased to have seen proof this past fall and winter with the calf and cull cow prices increasing. And yes, it is going to keep continuing to get better. We have been producing bulls for some time now and continue to work very hard at our genetics while ensuring that they are designed for calving ease. The 100% A.I. bulls we have on offer this year are ready for employment, have spunk and are ready to work in ranches of any size. Here is the round up of the sires of the quality performance bulls we have on offer: The Invincible bulls are some of the best bulls we have raised. His dam was the Canadian National Champion Female. Invincible bulls carry longer pants with muscle, lots of ribs and guts, larger frames and nice square hips. Alcatraz comes out of one of the leading purebred herds in Canada, and in fact contributed largely in building their herd. Alcatraz will offer nothing shy of a high quality cross. Gridmaker sons are smooth with lots of muscle, ribs and do-ability and comes out of a top dam. The gridmakers develop early and specialize in calving ease with a +0.5 birth weight EPD as well as being in the top 1% for REA (rib eye area) and have excellent marbling. Red Smoke are good solid smooth framed bulls with thickness and good tops. These red factor genetics will compliment any herd [Lot 21 Red Ryder ]. Freedom has been named the Canadian Charolais BOSS sire of the year for five years in a row as well as becoming a Roll of Excellence sire for the American Charolais Association. Freedom sons are sound structured, deep bodied and stout. We only have one Birmingham son on offer who brings power and more power to the table. He is a young April calf but if you have a little time to let him season he will definitely be worth the wait. The young guns will be semen tested by our vet, Dr. Jerry Out, and are guaranteed to breed. The bulls are being fed a balanced mixed ration including minerals and have been vaccinated. Bulls can either be taken home with you on sale day, or we can feed & house them until a later date at no extra charge. DELIVERY IS FREE anywhere. 21 TERMS and CONDITIONS This sale is CCA certified. All breeding guarantees and auction practices will be as outlined in the CCA Code of Ethics. TERMS: Terms of the sale are cash or cheque and is payable in Canadian funds at sale location. No cattle shall be released before settlement is made and sale management reserves the right to demand a certified cheque before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for purchase, management reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage. Either publicly or privately. Any loss arising from such resale, together with keep and all other expenses, shall be payable by the defaulter. BIDS: Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer s decision will be final. PURCHASER S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. An insurance broker will be available sale day. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by the auctioneer at sale time and will take precedence over the printed matter in catalogue. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Proper Registration or Recordation paper will be provided to the buyer after settlement has been made. CCA will transfer the records. BREEDING GUARANTEE: Should any bull under the age of fourteen months or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows, known to be breeders, the matter should be reported to the seller within six months of purchase. The seller will then have the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. This is providing the bull has been maintained in satisfactory breeding condition. 21
