1 Meigs County Royalty Code of Conduct 1. Each contestant must be a resident of Ohio and a member of a Meigs County 4H club, FFA chapter, Boy Scout Troop, Girl Scout Troop, or Grange. 2. Each Queen or King contestant must be between the ages of 16 and 19 years of age as of January 1 of the same year as the contest. Each Livestock Prince or Princess Candidate must be between 10 to 15 years of age as of January 1 of the same year as the contest. 3. Each contestant may not be married, not have been married, have borne a child, or be with child. 4. Each contestant must have an exhibit in some form entered into the Jr. Fair. 5. A current photo must be attached to the contestant s application or application will receive a point deduction. All photos become property of the Fair Board and will not be returned. 6. Interviews will take place at the Meigs County Extension office on at 2pm. This date has been announced several months before the interviews. No interviews will take place any day other than the scheduled interview day and location. An applicant going on vacation, working or attending another function will not be accepted; exception to this would need to be approved before 2pm the day of judging with the royalty committee, royalty advisors, and the Jr. Fair Coordinator and it must be a unanimous decision. 7. Dress for the contest is business attire (dress or dress pants and blouse for the girls) and (dress pants and shirt and tie for the boys). Your appearance is important and part of your overall score. A photo will be taken at the interview for publication. 8. Winners will be announced at the Junior Fair Parade on Sunday before the fair starts. Boys should wear dress pants and tie and girls will wear formal gown or evening gown and proper shoes for the race track. Weather may change this location. You must provide your own transportation for the parade. 9. The Queen and Livestock Princess will receive a crown and sash, as well as attendants. 10. The King and prince will receive a hat and sash, as well as attendants. 11. If the current reigning royalty is dismissed from their position then the position will remain unfilled for that year. 12. If the reigning King or Queen is unable to attend a function, runner-up may attend in their place approved by the royalty advisors and/or Jr. Fair Coordinator. 13. Royalty is expected to wear their royalty attire (Queen/princess-crown and sash. King and Prince sash) during the week of the fair except when showing livestock or working with their livestock. Royalty are expected to make appearances and assist with all shows and help hand out awards, especially sale day. Royalty will remain highly visible the week of the fair. This means proper dress at all times. Bring extra clothes in your vehicle in case you get wet or dirty. This also means no bare midriffs or cutoff tops, no low cut tops, no spaghetti or strapless dresses without a jacket or sweater, no ragged, ripped or torn clothing or jeans, no clothing with alcoholic beverages or foul language. Dresses and skirts must touch the fingertips. (The big fan in the show arena will cause your dress to flip) No flip flops, sandals, or dress shoes around large animals due to you will be in the show ring, and we do not want you injured. If you

2 2 are asked to change, please be the young adult we expect you to be and change without question. Violations of the dress code policy may be reason to be removed as royalty. You are representing the Meigs County Fair. 14. A polo shirt will be given to the Royalty to wear on Monday (horse show and dairy show) of the fair and Wednesday (hog show) of the fair. These will be worn with khakis pants or Jeans (without holes, must be nice) (ABSOULTELY NO SHORTS WILL BE ACCEPTABLE). 15. A schedule will be given to you of the events that we are expecting you to be at during the week after the crowning. If for some reason you can t attend, please let the royalty advisor or Jr. Fair Coordinator know. 16. Royalty is at no time permitted to use tobacco products or alcohol. This is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated. Any Royalty attending an event and representing the fair wearing their crown and sash seen using tobacco or alcohol will be removed from their position. 17. Profanity while representing the fair will be a reason to be removed from your position. The same goes for fighting. 18. No public displays of affection while in the crown and sash. 19. The Jr. and Sr. Fair Boards expect courteous and orderly conduct by the applicants and their families. Harassment, profanity, or questionable conduct towards the fair officials, judges, coordinators, or others WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Violators will be escorted from the fairgrounds. 20. All functions attended by the Meigs County Royalty should be approved in advance (if you can go as a group, you will get more enjoyment). All transportation to events will be up to the individual wanting to participate. Attendance at county fairs should take precedence over festivals, but festivals are good for representing the Meigs County Fair also. It is expected that the Meigs County Royalty will try to attend the Pomeroy and Middleport Christmas Parades, Racine and Rutland 4 th of July Parades, and the Gallia County Fair, and Athens County Fair as a minimum. 21. The Meigs County Fair Queen is expected to compete at The Ohio Fair s Queen Contest and the Sr. Fair Board will reimburse the Queen for the hotel room as long as she remains in the competition. All other fees are to be paid by the Meigs County Fair Queen. 3 Meigs County Junior Fair Livestock Prince and Princess Application The regulations for the King and Queen contest comply with the requirements for the State Contest. The Meigs County Fair King, Queen, Runner-Up, Livestock Prince, and Livestock Princess are selected from the applications submitted from members of the various youth organizations including 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Grange on the basis of the following criteria: 1. The Livestock Prince and Princess must be at least 10 years as of January 1 st of the current year, not married nor have been married, nor have borne a child or be with child. 2. No individual can serve as King or Queen or Acting King or Queen of the county or representative at the State Fair more than once. The Queen will be obligated to attend the State Fair unless illness or an emergency occurs and must immediately notify the Junior Fair Coordinator if unable to attend. 3. The King and the Queen and runners-up must have an exhibit in some form entered in the Junior Fair. 4. The King and Queen will make themselves available for special presentations at the livestock shows and sales, and any other time as directed by the Junior Fair Board. Specific dress coded attire will be expected at all times. (See code of conduct sheet.) 5. Sash, Crown, and other official Royalty Attire issued by the Junior Fair Board must be worn at all times. (Unless washing or showing animals.) 6. The Royalty will be in all photos taken under the direction of the Junior and Senior Fair Boards. 7. The Junior and Senior Fair Boards expect courteous and orderly conduct by the applicants and their families. Harassment, profanity, or questionable conduct towards the fair officials, judges, or coordinators, or other applicants will not be tolerated. Violators will be escorted from the fairgrounds. 1. Anyone wishing to compete for King and Queen must turn in a completed application form and essay, and all must be TYPED. 3. Tentative interview will be scheduled for June 4, 2017 beginning at 2pm, you will be contacted with an exact time for your interview. Business professional attire is required for the interview. All applications must be present the day of the interview, no exceptions. 4. All candidates will be required to participate in and furnish their own vehicle for the parade on Sunday before the fair begins. You must be there thirty minutes before the parade start time for the parade lineup. Crowning will follow the parade. 5. Home National Bank is sponsoring a $500 scholarship to the Queen and the King. 6. Applicants must be received and/or postmarked by Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 5:00 pm.
