2 Welcome to Minnamurra Welcome to Minnamurra s third annual bull sale. We are offering a great line-up of bulls from two new exciting sires to Australia So Long George 6Z and Whiskey 4B. We re very pleased with their progeny to date and also the outstanding results we have been getting in our commercial F1 program. A pen of six of George s Angus cross steers won the carcass competition at the Royal Brisbane Show last August, out of a field of forty-eight pens, and we recently sent our first live shipment of thirty F1 George heifers to Vietnam. The maiden F1 heifers in this sale are by George, in calf to Stands Alone s son MPC Jaguar J156. Minnamurra will continue to promote the breed through carcass trials and by supplying good lines of first and second cross cattle to major feedlots. A summary of a typical kill is featured in the centrefold. It was a great honour for our General Manager, Dennis Power, to be selected as a finalist in the Beef Farmer of the Year Award for 2018, in recognition of the work he has done in establishing the Minnamurra Stud and bringing the Speckle Park breed to the wider attention of the commercial cattle industry in Australia. With the exciting genetic sire lines that Minnamurra has sourced over the last twelve months, we are sure that we will be able to continue to fine tune our cattle to suit our climate and our commercial breeding requirements. 3 SALE INFORMATION GETTING THERE Mount Mill is situated 10km from Coolah, NSW. See page 31 for map & accomodation details. Sale starts at 1pm. PHONE BIDDING: Contact Agents 24 hours prior to sale. SELLING SYSTEM AND BUYER S REGISTRATION All lots will be sold subject to the usual terms and conditions governing auction sales. Intending purchasers should obtain a Buyer s Number and registration slip available from the selling agents prior to the sale. THE MINNAMURRA GUARANTEE Any Minnamurra Speckle Park bull that proves to be structurally unsound, infertile or incapable of service is guaranteed for up to 6 months from date of sale. Under these circumstances Minnamurra will replace the bull with a satisfactory substitute if available or issue a refund equal to the purchase price, less the salvage value. The guarantee covers the purchase value of the bull, without interest, cost and damages. The guarantee shall apply providing the bull s incapacity is not caused by injury or disease contracted since leaving the sale. A veterinary certificate must be supplied by the purchaser on request. If any bull that is purchased does not possess a reasonable fertility, although not totally infertile, any dispute that may arise shall be settled by an arbitrator appointed by the auctioneers and must be lodged within 6 calendar months from date of sale. We recommend that all purchasers discuss injury insurance of their bulls at the sale with Elders Ltd or their Agent. This guarantee is in addition to the normal terms and conditions governing auction sales. HEALTH TREATMENTS All the sale bulls have been vaccinated for Vibriosis prior to sale. We recommend annual boosters are given to all bulls. All of our bulls receive 5 in 1 vaccinations at threemonths of age, six weeks later and a booster as a yearling. They are drenched at weaning and periodically according to worm counts. Minnamurra has J Bas 7 Johnes status. For bulls travelling to tick areas, Minnamurra will agist bulls for up to 2 weeks at the buyers risk until vaccinations can be arranged. All Minnamurra bulls are examined by a veterinarian prior to sale day which includes palpation of the sexual anatomy and the circumference of the testicles. The jaw is checked for correct bite. FEED REGIME The bulls were paddock reared and have been supplementary fed with pasture hay and pellets since January. SCAN DATA All bulls were scanned on 3rd April Note that all the L and M bulls calved by J and K dams in the sale were all heifer calves. SEMEN RIGHTS Minnamurra retains the semen rights for inherd use only in a number of bulls in this catalogue, as noted under the lot number. If the right to collect semen is excercised, Minnamurra will consult with the new owner of the bull to arrange a convenient time for collection, with the cost of collection being paid for by Minnamurra. FREIGHT All bulls must be transported from Mount Mill by sundown Saturday. Formal possession, risk and expenses passes to the buyer at the fall of the hammer. 18 THE SPECKLE ADVANTAGE A CASE STUDY Minnamurra has achieved consistently good results with their cross-breeding program. A typical example is this data from a recent kill; a line of 148 Speckle/Angus steers sold to Mort & Co in October last year. They were out of our commercial EU Angus cows AI d to JSF Redneck Whiskey 4B. We sold these steers early, at 13 months, due to the impending dry summer, and they went into Pinegrove feedlot at an average weight of 371kg, where they were fed for 180 days. 34 As an industry participant for almost 40 years I have been fortunate to have dealt with MPC for 22 years and have seen the company grow in size and focus, with a continuous pursuit of quality and success. Business with MPC mostly sees highly satisfied purchasers and customers of store, feeder, slaughter and stud stock. MPC has built an enviable reputation for quality stock that perform very well in commercial situations. Like most industry participants, I first looked at Speckle Parks as another niche breed wondering about what they had to offer. After closely watching MPC first evaluate, then expand their Speckle herd, I am convinced that Speckles will have a strong place in many Australian herds.
