ENTRIES 1. The Market Goat entry deadline is OCTOBER 31. See additional requirements in the General Rules and Regulations and the Junior Division Rules. FEES: Entry Fee: $25.00/head Exhibitor Fee: $15.00/exhibitor Drug Testing Fee: $10.00/exhibitor 2. A DNA sample must be registered for each market goat entry. Please refer to the DNA rules section for specific requirements. 3. Both wether goats and does are eligible and will be shown together. 4. There is no limit on the number of goats entered per exhibitor, but no more than two (2) are eligible to be checked-in and shown. (You may enter as many as you want but may bring only two). Entry fees and DNA samples are due for the number of head entered. Fees are not refundable. 5. Due to limited pen space, entries may be limited. 6. NEW: Junior Market Goats must be slick shorn in a uniform length from the knee & hock up at time of arrival. There will be no sheering/clipping allowed on show grounds, only hand sheers and/or cordless clippers may be used for touch-ups. 7. Goats must be dehorned. Any horn re-growth (scurs) cannot exceed one inch in length. Removal of horns on the grounds will result in disqualification. 8. Goats must still have all their milk teeth and will be mouthed to verify age at the discretion of the Show Committee at any time. Goats showing any permanent incisors will be disqualified. 9. Market Goats must be tagged with an official scrapie ID tag at time of entry which must be recorded on the entry form and health papers. WEIGH-IN and CLASSING 10. The minimum weight for Market Goats is 50 pounds. The maximum weight for Junior Market Goats is 120 pounds. Underweight and overweight goats are disqualified and must be removed from the grounds immediately. 11. Market Goat exhibitors must acquire official weight cards and official ANLS ear tag(s) from the Show Superintendent. All exhibitors must tag their own animal and ANLS ear tags must be applied prior to 12:00 noon on December 28. Ear tag applicators are available to borrow from the Superintendent Office. Applicators must be returned within 30 minutes. All exhibitors must complete a weight card displaying the animal s weight as determined by the exhibitor, the animal s official ANLS ear tag number, and the signature of the exhibitor. This weight is the official weight and will be used for classing and selling.

2 69 th Annual Arizona National Livestock Show December 27, 2016-January 1, Prior to showing, all Market Goats will be broken into three weight divisions: Heavyweight, Middleweight and Lightweight, and further divided into equitable weight classes as determined by the Junior Goat Superintendent(s) whose classing decisions are final. 13. Immediately before judging, animals will be weighed by the Junior Market Goat Committee. If there is a weight variance of 5% or more from official weight turned in by the exhibitor, the animal will be disqualified. Weight turned in by the exhibitor will remain the official weight for sale animals. BEDDING 14. Exhibitors must provide their own bedding. Straw and shavings will be available for sale at the Feed Store located on the grounds. FITTING & SHOWING 15. At the time of processing, goats must be slick shorn above the hocks and knees with hair not exceeding a length of 3/8 inch. 16. Fitting and penning are allowed in designated areas only. 17. Goats are not permitted to leave the barns or the wash rack areas. Doing so will result in disqualification of the animal from all events. 18. Junior exhibitors must be neat and clean, wear a collared, sleeved shirt with the tails tucked in, and wear close-toed shoes. GOATS WITH SICKNESS OR ABNORMALITIES 19. The Junior Market Goat Committee reserves the right to reject goats showing signs of sickness, lice, ringworm (or other skin conditions including those commonly known as fungus ), abscesses, ulcerations, abnormality or uncontrollable temperament. The Committee s decision is final and entry fees will not be refunded. The exhibitor must remove a rejected goat from the grounds immediately upon decision of the Junior Market Goat Committee. Exhibitors will be provided a Health inspection protocol document prior to the show via mail. 3 69 th Annual Arizona National Livestock Show December 27, 2016-January 1, 2017 Page 3 LIVESTOCK SHOWMANSHIP The objectives of Showmanship are to reward outstanding junior exhibitors and to provide an opportunity to learn proper showmanship techniques. Contestants are judged on attitude, appearance of exhibitor and animal, handling of animal, correct showmanship techniques, skill and knowledge. All General Rules and Junior Division Rules Apply 1. Entry fee is $15 for each Showmanship Contest entered. 2. Entry deadline is October 31 for Market Livestock Showmanship. Entries must be completed online the same way they would enter their livestock entry( 3. Eligibility/Age Requirements: Junior Exhibitors must be at least 8 years and less than 22 years as of January 1, 2016; and must be a member in good standing with a 4-H, FFA or national livestock association. 4. There are five Showmanship Contests: a) Beef Showmanship for animals entered in Market Cattle and Junior Heifer Divisions b) Sheep Showmanship for animals entered in Market Lamb and Breeding Ewe Divisions c) Swine Showmanship for animals entered in the Market Swine and Breeding Gilt Divisions d) Prospect Steer Showmanship for animals entered in the Prospect Steer Division e) Market Goat Showmanship for animals entered in the Market Goat Division 5. Contestants are divided into three age groups: a) Division I - Junior 8 to 12 years on January 1, 2016 b) Division II Intermediate - 13 to 16 years old on January 1, 2016 c) Division III Senior - 17 to 21 years on January 1, Only Junior Exhibitors with animals entered in the Arizona National Junior Division are eligible. 7. Showmanship animal must be owned, entered and shown by the contestant. 8. Junior exhibitors represent their Club or Chapter as well as youth in Agriculture. Junior Exhibitors are required to wear appropriate attire in the Show Ring or Junior Market Auction. Attire must be clean and neat and include a collared sleeved shirt with tails tucked in. 9. Placing and explanations are announced at the show ring. 10. No premiums will be awarded. 5 69 th Annual Arizona National Livestock Show December 27, 2016-January 1, 2017 Page 5 MASTER SHOWMANSHIP Friday, December 30, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. The Master Showmanship contest is designed to showcase multiple proficiencies of the livestock exhibitor. Master Showman contestants will be evaluated beyond their show ring ability, and have their knowledge and communication talents tested as well. The Master Showmanship Contest is sponsored by Show-Rite Feeds CONTEST QUALIFICATION NOTE: This contest is NOT open to entry by exhibitor. 1. First place winners (overall), in the Senior Division (17-22 years), and Intermediate Division (13-16 years old) from the showmanship competitions for Beef, Sheep, Swine, and Market Goat are eligible for the Master Showmanship contest. Prospect Steer Showmanship Winners are NOT eligible for Master Showmanship. 2. Each of the eight winners (four in each Division), must compete in Master Showmanship. In the extreme case that the first place winner of a species is unable to compete because of injury or management approved (in advance) conflict, the second place winner of the respective division is eligible. If an exhibitor wins first place showmanship in multiple species, he or she must notify management of their specie of choice and intent to compete as the representative of one species no later than 8:00 a.m., December 30. In this case, the second place winner(s) of the vacated Division will also qualify for the open position(s). CONTEST FORMAT 3. Part One of the Master Showmanship contest shall be as follows: each exhibitor will show a steer or heifer, a sheep, a hog, and a market goat. Species rotation shall be determined by the Chairman; however, all exhibitors within an age group will show the same species simultaneously. 4. A separate judge per species will be assigned. In addition, one of those judges will act as Chief Judge. 5. All livestock and show equipment will be provided by ANLS. 6. Part Two of the contest will be the extemporaneous response judging. a. An official will ask two (2) questions of the contestant from one of the following subject areas: Animal Welfare, Livestock Marketing, Food Animal Genetics, Nutrition, Show Ring Ethics, and Animal Health, Stewardship-Based Production Methods used in Food Animal Production, or Public Relations. b. Each question will require a response over the microphone (response to be completed in 2 minutes or less), and the question will be framed as a problem-solving scenario. c. Each contestant will answer different questions. No single question will be asked of more than one contestant. d. All contestants and the audience will be able to hear the question and the response. e. Contestants will be judged on content, poise, solution suggested and time used for response. All contestants are to compete in this category simultaneously. 7. Part Three of the contest is the Master Showmanship Skill-A-Thon. a. This hands-on category is the laboratory section of the competition. b. Four sections will be featured and one of those sections will be selected for each species.

The four sections are Meat Cut Identification, Animal Nutrition Scenario Word Problem, Pedigree Analysis, and Livestock Equipment ID. d. All contestants are to compete in this category simultaneously. 8. Tie Breaker: Cattle Weight Estimate SCORING 9. Showmanship will be based on a 40 point scale awarded per exhibitor for their skill. A combined score of 40 is the highest possible score. No more than 10 points may be awarded per exhibitor per species. Questions should be asked of exhibitors and taken into account for scoring. Points may be given in tenths if necessary. The extemporaneous response judging is worth a total of 40 points with 20 points available per question. The Skillathon is also worth 40 points (10 points per section). The total points available per contestant are 120 points. 10. Winners will be announced at the start of the Junior Livestock Auction on December 30. All contestants MUST be present.
