2 We would like to welcome everyone to this year s bull sale on March 23, We feel this year s offerings are a very strong, even set of bulls along with 4 very powerful heifers. We would like to thank all the buyers and bidders at last years sale; you gave us a great first sale at the Ranch. It is our belief the Hereford breed is built on the strength of its females and its ability to create F1 cattle. With this in mind, it is nothing new for us to identify and follow certain cow families within the breed. We do our homework before buying into someone s program and will often follow a cow herd for a couple years before investing in new bloodlines. This is our job as seed stock producers and it is what our customers expect of us. This years offering are predominantly horned as we wanted to see how the implementation of polled blood would cross on our cows as well as how our customers would accept them. The results on both ends of this have been very positive. We want to raise the best Hereford animal we can whether they are horned or polled. We feel both have great attributes to the breed so why not combine them. These cows must be able to maintain themselves during dry years with no supplementing. Our cows stay on native grass until mid December when we start to feed them a dry hay ration. We wean our calves in mid October and our steers are then shipped. Our weaning weights listed are actual weights; not adjusted. Over 50% of our bulls are steered in May with another cut at weaning time. Also, at this time Bircham Ranch buys a large group of our heifer calves for their F1 program. We are proud to see our genetics working for a great program. Sire to 55E is now working for Flying H Ranch making nice F1 calves. 7

This guy is going to be a big raw bull. His dam is one of my favorite cows. Excellent udders and feet behind this guy. A few years ago we were asked to raise some hybrid bulls to replace some Simmental bulls on black Angus cows. We agreed and have been following the results of the calves. The results have been very positive with weaning weights comparing with that of the Simmental sired calves but the biggest differences were the docility and consistency of the Hybrid sired calves. These three Hybrid bulls in the sale are big butted, huge volume, great haired and have very good dispositions. All three are sired by our NJW 203A polled bull and their mothers are all from our customers.
