3 4-H Fruit Sale Update By Kathy Sperry, County 4-H Fruit Sale Volunteer Coordinator THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS to every 4-H club and the five independent families for participating in this year s 4-H Fruit Sale! It was a great success! Next month, look in your May Newshound for the final numbers and your club s share of the profit it earned. How can this money benefit our communities? How can this money make 4-H a better experience for the members? Consider paying toward 4-H project expenses, 4-H Camp costs, 4-H Performing Arts Camp, 4-H Youth Conferences, etc. The members who worked so hard to earn the money should benefit from it. Thank you for helping to make this such a successful fundraiser! Bo Peep Bingo Tickets for Bo Peep Bingo will be distributed to Club Leaders at the Leader s Meeting on April 23. In an effort to make this process less confusing for the Leader s Association Treasurer, one check will be accepted for the Club's tickets. Ticket stubs will need to be returned to the 4-H office by August 1st by NOON. Tickets will be distributed based on your club's enrollment. Cookies Needed The Brown County 4-H Office and Leaders have been planning an exciting week for 4-H Youth to learn about different science based professions as well as coming up with activities for them to complete! Each day we are planning on providing them with lunch. We are wondering if clubs would be willing to donate bars/cookies to our event. The dates are June We are looking at 3 to 4 dozen for each day. Please contact the 4-H office if you are interested in helping! Aberdeen Weather Center Tour Brown County 4-H members have the opportunity to tour the Aberdeen Weather Center on April 20, 2018 beginning at 4 pm. Limit of 25 youth, first come first serve. Deadline for sign-up is April 16, 2018 by 5 pm. We need at least 15 youth to sign up or the tour will be canceled. You will need to call the Brown County 4-H Office and let them know that your member is wanting to participate.
4 Lotion & Potions Project Day Do you love spas and the products that go along with it? Brown County 4-H is excited to offer a Lotions and Potions Project Day. You are sure to have lots of fun learning how to make spa products. In addition to learning how to make these products, students will also learn about the science behind the products, learn how to properly measure and follow a recipe, gain skills in formulating their own products, and learn how to calculate the costs of making their own products. Some of the items that we could make that day are: bath salts, bubble bath jelly, bath fizzies and lip balm. Lotions and Potions project day will be May 25 from 9 am to 12 pm in the 4-H Office. Please call the 4-H Office to preregister your interested youth by May 18 so the office has time to get supplies for the day. We would like to have at least 10 people registered for the event and a maximum of 20 participants. Also, if there are any adults that are interested in helping for the morning please let the office know as well. One special word of caution. Many of the skin care products are made with oils from nuts, plants or fruits. People with severe allergies to nuts, plants or fruits should not make or use products from the Lotions and Potions project. 4-H Performing Arts for 13 to 18 year old Youth Submitted by Kathy Sperry, State 4-H Performing Arts Volunteer Would you like to sing and dance and perform with other youth this summer? All 4-H members are encouraged to participate in this process of learning valuable life skills through fun hands-on decision making. To make it possible for more 4-H members to participate in the judging of Consumer Decision Making and Horticulture, 4-H clubs can conduct an official judging contest at their club meeting. Official judging kits will be available at the Brown County 4-H Office. The club will need to follow the stated criteria so the judging can be fair and comparable to a county judging contest.
