1 Work Day at Fairgrounds June 10, - 10:00 a.m. Sheep Shearing & Tagging June 17 The first county wide work day at the Fairgrounds will be June 10 beginning at 10:00. Members and Leaders will work to prepare the sheep barn for sheep tagging. This will be one opportunity to log community service hours. The Market lamb weigh-in, tagging and shearing date is scheduled for Saturday, June 17 at the fairgrounds beginning at 3:00 p.m. It is mandatory market lambs exhibiting in the 4-H market lamb class during the fair be weighed, tagged and shorn at this time. If you are unable to attend, please make arrangements for your lamb(s) to be present. A member is allowed to tag up to 2 (two) lambs, exhibiting only 1 (one) in the 4-H Market Lamb Class at the fair. You may exhibit your 2 nd lamb in open class if you prefer. Open class exhibits may not be sold in the 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale. All sheep (as well as goats) exhibited at the fair must be tagged with an USDA scrapie tag. Please bring your lambs to weigh-in on June 17 th already tagged. If purchasing a lamb from someone else, please ensure producers have tagged your lamb at the time of purchase. If you have raised your own lamb, ensure you have tagged the lamb with your own USDA scrapie identification tag, identifying your flock premise. This will be the second workday at the fairgrounds and will start following shearing and tagging. Community service hours available. Fun for all at this day camp for our youngest members (cloverbud). Come and have fun learning with others just your age. You will leave this camp with many items ready for entry in the fair. 2 Swine Barn Update The panels have been ordered for a cost of the panels $ 12, As of June 5th donation of funds received total $ 6, from 4-H members at the 2016 fair each from Four Leaf Clover & Northern Lights from nieces and nephews honoring Robert Molvig Lee & Alyce Tracy 2, Valley County Community Foundation 2, Northwestern Energy MT Dept of Ag Rural Community Development Grant Funds are still needed to complete the swine barn project. All donations towards this project may be sent to Valley County 4-H with a memo swine barn project. Help will also be needed to set up and install the panels and get the barn ready before fair. Sewing Camp June 20 in Opheim Open to all 4-H members. Hosted by: Northern Lights and Four Leaf Clover Come and just have fun creating a mini table runner in this one day workshop which includes lunch. You do not need to be enrolled in a sewing project to be a part of Sewing Camp and transportation can be coordinated when we know how many are involved. Please preregister for this event at the Extension Office. Supply list o Sewing machine o Thread o Backing fabric this is also the frame for your quilt 24 inches by width of fabric (42-44 ) o 48 different 4 inch squares If using 2 fabrics need 24; 4 inch squares of each color If using 3 fabrics need 16; 4 inch squares of each color If using 4 fabrics need 12; 4 inch squares of each color If using 5 fabrics need 10; 4 inch squares of each color If using 6 fabrics need 8; 4 inch squares of each color If you want to use more different fabrics divide 48 (total number of squares needed) by the number of fabrics with which you plan to work. If the number comes out to 8.6 squares, round up to 9 squares. o Quilters grid (will be given to each member at day of instruction) 2

3 Bill and Myrna Lauckner 4-H Supporter of the Month Lucky Clover 4-H Club has selected Bill and Myrna Lauckner as the Valley County 4-H supporter of the Month. Bill and Myrna are life long residents of Valley County and have been involved with 4-H for 31 years. They became involved when their children decided to join 4-H and they saw this as a wonderful family oriented program and eventually became leaders. As leaders of the Lucky Clover Club they were involved with leathercraft and shooting sports, not to mention sponsoring a 4-H camp every summer for the kids at the Boy Scout Park. While they were leaders, their club was very busy, and they did a lot of fun things like parades, taking kids to Atlanta, GA for shooting sports, and helping the kids build a small cabin during the Nashua Rodeo to house their projects. Bill and Myrna both served on the fair board during their years in 4-H and were instrumental in the many changes in the swine barn, such as the washing station and the watering system. During their 31 years in 4-H, the one thing that really stands out is how much they enjoyed all of their 4-H kids. They liked helping them achieve their goals, and watched as they grew up and became responsible young men and women. The Lucky Clover Club and the 4-H program was very fortunate to have them involved as leaders and supporters of the 4-H program for so many years. When you see them give them a BIG THANK YOU. 4 Montana 4-H Congress - ages 13+ Montana s State 4-H Congress will be held July 12-15, Members from all corners of Montana come together to compete, learn and have fun with each other. There are workshops, contests, speakers and much more. If you are 13 or older and interested in attending 4-H Congress please contact the office. Registration is due June 15. Member in Good Standing Criteria - These expectations must be met by fair time in order to enter projects in the fair: 1. Member must be enrolled in 4-H and have paid their dues. 2. Member must attend at least three club meetings during the 4-H year. For new members, that didn t join at the beginning of the year they must attend 50% of the meetings from the time that they joined. 3. Each member must log 10 hours of community service each year with a minimum of three hours at the county level in order to exhibit at the fair. The Extension Office will keep a log of those that participate in county level service and club leaders will need to keep a log for hours served with their clubs. 4. Record books must be up to date at the time of their fair interview for all projects. 5. Each member must attend at least two county level activities. 6. Each member must participate in a demonstration at their club or county level. If they have not done this by fair time, they will be required to sign up for a demonstration at the fair. 4
