2 2013 State Wide Spring Bucket Calf Show Show Time: 9:00am, Saturday, May 4, 2012 Kansas Expocentre RR Domer Livestock Pavilion Topeka, KS May arrive between 7:00AM and 8:30AM on Saturday, May 4. No check in after 8:30AM on Saturday. The building is located between SW 17 th and 21 st Streets on Topeka Boulevard. Rules: 1. Show is open to 4-H members State Wide who are 7 or older as of January 1, Entry fee is $8.00 per head. There will be no refunds. Entries need an April 19 or earlier postmark. Entries postmarked after April 19 will have a late fee of $ Show day entries will close at 8:30AM. 3. There is to be no bedding material allowed during the show or while stalling animals. Sand will be provided. 4. A Bucket Calf is defined as an orphan or newborn calf, male or female, dairy beef or cross, fed on a bucket or bottle. Bull calves need to be castrated prior to the show. 5. A Bucket Calf must be identified and tagged with a 4-H tag by May 3, Bucket Calves must be tied up, no pens allowed. 7. Exhibitors must be age 12 or younger (as of January 1, 2013) to exhibit Bucket Calves and must be a 4-H member on file by April 19, All exhibitors must register with the show committee on show day between 7:00AM and 8:30AM on Saturday, May Due to the size of the show, two calls per individual in a class is all that will be announced. 10. The Bucket Calves will enter the show ring washed, trimmed and combed only and will tie to the outside of the ring. Exhibitors will fit all animals in the show ring. If calves enter the show ring with any fitting already done, they will be disqualified. These classes require the 4-H er to do all the work. The 4-H er will be asked questions about their knowledge of their Bucket Calf by the judge. 4-H ers then will lead and show their calf H ers should recognize that not only is their calf being judged, they are being judged on their presentation of themselves. 12. Judging will be done on the basis of: a. 50%- on knowledge the 4-H er has gained from caring for and raising the calf. b. 25%- handling and showing of the calf and how well the calf responds. c. 25%- Cleanliness and general health of the calf and knowledge of 4-H er in health related areas. 13. All disputes or rule violators will be settled by the Bucket Calf Show directors. 14. No health papers are required. Calves determined by exhibition staff to have lesions of ringworm, warts, infected with mange or carry any other infectious disease will not be permitted to exhibit. 15. 3 2013 State-Wide Spring Sheep Show Check in and Weigh In, Saturday, May 4, :00am-11:00am Show Time: 1:00pm, or 30 minutes after the Goat Show, Saturday, May 4 Kansas Expocentre R.R. Domer Livestock Pavilion, Topeka, Kansas Rules: 1. Show is open to 4-H and FFA members State-Wide who are between the ages of 7-18 by January 1, Entry fee is $11.00 per head. There will be no refunds. Failure to pre-enter classes by April 19 will constitute entry charged Show Day of $16.00 per head. Showmanship is free, as long as you are entered in one statewide class. Entries must carry a postmark of April 19 or earlier to qualify for pre-entry. Show Day entries will close at 9:00am. Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS. Scales will be open at 10:00AM and close at 11:00AM. 3. Prospect Lambs are to have wool no longer than 2/10 inch in length at show time or will be disqualified 4. NO BEDDING MATERIAL ALLOWED DURING THE SHOW OR WHILE STALLING ANIMALS. Sand will be furnished. 5. Market classes may be divided if more than 15 lambs are in the class. 6. No Breeding Classes will be held in All exhibitors must register with the show committee on show day between 7:00AM-9:00AM on May Due to the size of the show, TWO CALLS PER INDIVIDUAL in a class will be announced. After that the classes WILL BE CLOSED AND JUDGING WILL BEGIN. 9. The judge s decision will be final and will place animals shown on their quality compared to the breed standard. 10. Parents or other adults may only assist in feeding, leading or haltering of animals at the Shawnee County Spring Sheep Show. Exhibitors should do their own work, but may be assisted by other exhibitors. Custom fitters will not be permitted to do any fitting or feeding of animals at the Spring Show. Violation of this rule may disqualify an exhibitor from participation. 11. For your convenience, no health papers are required. Upon arrival, a Veterinarian will inspect each lamb for infectious or contagious diseases. To speed the process, lambs should be slick shorn upon arrival. No lambs are to be unloaded prior to inspection. These steps are intended to protect, not inconvenience, exhibitors. Please cooperate. ALL SEXUALLY INTACT (MARKET EWES) MUST BE IDENTIFIED WITH AN OFFICIAL USDA PREMISE ID TAG. This is per current State of Kansas regulations. 12. Classes must have 3 head pre-entered to constitute a breed class or else they will need to be put in an all other breeds class (AOB). 13. No artificial color will be allowed on the animal, above the knee or hock. 14. Either wethers or ewe lambs may be shown in Market Classes (No Rams) 15. All animals must be owned and entered under the name of the exhibitor. ALL ANIMALS MUST BE SHOWN BY A 4-H ER OR FFA MEMBER. 16. All sheep must have an identification ear tag in their ear by May 3, All sheep must show as entered. 18. Exhibitors who abuse an animal will be barred from showing and will forfeit any premium, ribbon or prize won. The word abuse includes beating, slapping, using an electric prod or forcing a lamb into a solid object in an attempt to make the animal brace more firmly. Bracing a lamb by holding the front feet off the ground also constitutes abuse. During the judge s inspection or handling, all four feet of the animal are to be in contact with the ground. 19. No entry fee for Class 12, also no payback. Trophies will be presented for the top placings. All entries in Class 12 must be a member of a Shawnee County 4-H Club or a Shawnee County FFA Chapter member. Each exhibitor may show only 1 animal. All breeds will show together. 5 2013 State Wide Spring Swine Show Check-In / Weigh In Saturday May 4, 6:00-8:00pm & Sunday May 5, 8:00-10:00am Show Time: Sunday May 5, 11:00am Kansas Expocentre R.R. Domer Livestock Pavilion, Topeka, KS Entry Deadline: Friday April 19, 2013 Rules and Regulations: 1. All Market Swine must have a 4-H ID tag or series tag & ear notch by May 3, Swine will be shown by breeds. Gilts and barrows will show together and will be separated by weights. All swine MUST be weighed upon arrival. 3. All males must be castrated. 4. Show is open to all youth State-Wide; this is a Swine Prospect Show ONLY. 5. Entry fee is $11.00 per head. There will be no refunds. No entry fee for Class 10 for Shawnee County 4- H/FFA members. The Showmanship is free provided you are entered in one state wide class. Maximum of 15 per class approximately. 6. Failure to pre-enter classes by April 19 will constitute a late registration fee of $ Entries must carry a postmark date of April 19 or earlier to qualify for regular entry. Show Day entries will close at 10:00AM. Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS! 7. THERE IS TO BE NO BEDDING MATERAL ALLOWED DURING THE SHOW OR WHILE STALLING ANIMALS. Sand will be furnished. 8. Number of head per class will be maximum 15 per class. 9. All exhibitors must register with the show committee on Saturday May 4 th from 6:00PM-8:00PM or on show day between 8:00AM-10:00AM. 10. Due to the size of the show, TWO CALLS PER INDIVIDUAL in a class is all that will be announced. After that the classes WILL BE CLOSED AND JUDGING WILL BEGIN. 11. Judge s decision will be final and they will place animals shown on their quality compared to the breed standard. 12. All classes of one breed will be shown before moving to the next breed. 13. Parents or other adults may only assist in feeding of animals at the Shawnee County Spring Swine Show. Exhibitors should do their own work, but may be assisted by other exhibitors. Custom fitters will not be permitted to do any fitting or feeding of animals at the Spring Show. Violation of this rule may disqualify the exhibitor from participation. 14. Swine originating in Kansas must be free of clinical signs of infestations or contagious disease. A negative Pseudorabies and Brucellosis test are not required for Kansas origin swine. No health certificate or blood test is needed in 2013 for any swine project. All swine originating out of State or purchased out of state need to follow state guidelines and must have a health certificate within 30 days and have a negative blood test or originate from a disease free herd. Health papers required for out of state entries only. 15. Classes must have 5 head pre-entered to constitute a breed class or else they will need to be put in an all other breeds class (AOB). If there are fewer than 5 AOB s they will show in a crossbred class. 16. All hogs should be born on or after January 1, No minimum or maximum weights. 18. Hogs must be owned & shown by exhibitor. 19. No entry fees for Class 10 also no pay back. All entries in Class 10 must be a member of a Shawnee County 4-H Club or a Shawnee County FFA Chapter. Only 1 entry per exhibitor is allowed in Class 10. All breeds show together. The following animal rights information shall apply to this Shawnee County 4-H function: The Show superintendents and Livestock Committee have agreed that the word abuse includes: beating, use of injections and use of electric prods. These shall be deemed as inhumane treatment of animals and may warrant dismissal from this function. They may determine that any exhibitor who inhumanely abuses an animal may be barred from showing and will forfeit any premium, ribbon or prizes won. They have the right to interpret these rules in the best interest of the Shawnee County 4-H program. The decision of the superintendents or livestock committee shall be final. Heifers originating from other states and 18 months of age or older must meet the requirement listed in the Kansas Animal Health Department guidelines. Cattle determined by exhibition staff to have lesions of ringworm, warts or infested with mange will not be permitted to exhibit. 14- Registration papers will be required for heifers in order for them to show in a breed class at all Shawnee County sponsored shows. Animals must be owned by the 4-H er or their immediate family by May 3, Any female not having registration papers will show in the commercial/crossbred heifer class. For breeding heifers and steer classes there will be 5 established breed classes: Angus, Hereford, Limousin, Shorthorn and Simmental. At pre-entry if there are 3 or more head of another breed then a class will be made for that breed; otherwise, it will go into an All Other Breed (AOB) class. 8 15- No market animals allowed to show if born before January 1, No females allowed to show if born before December 31, No entry fees for Class 7 & 8, also no pay back. Trophies will be presented for the top placing. All entries in Class 7 & 8 must be a member of a Shawnee County 4-H Cub or a Shawnee County FFA Chapter. 10 2013 State-Wide Spring Meat Goat Show Check in and Weigh In Saturday, May 4 9:30-10:30am Show Time, 11:30am, Saturday, May 4 Kansas Expocentre R.R. Domer Livestock Pavilion Topeka, KS Building is located between 17 th and 21 st Streets on Topeka Blvd. Entry deadline is Friday April 19, 2013 Rules & Regulations: 1- Show is open to 4-H & FFA Members (7-18 as of January 1, 2013) members State-Wide. Exhibitors may enter no more than 2 goats per class with a maximum of 6 head. 2- Entry fee is $8.00 per head. There will be no refunds. Entries need an April 19 or earlier postmark. Entries postmarked after April 19 will have a late fee of $ Show day entries close at 9:00AM. Pens will hold 2 Seniors or 4 Juniors. 3- All goats must be owned by the 4-H er by May 3, 2013 and verified by tattoo or official ear tag. 4- All goats must have a USDA premise ID tag to show, per current State of Kansas regulations. Unless registered by the breed association. 5- Exhibitors must be neatly and appropriately attired. 6- Wethers are suggested to be dehorned. However, if horns are left they should be tipped and rounded. The only exception will be Boer and Boer Cross does with papers. They can have horns. Papers must be presented at check-in. 7- Exhibitors may exhibit only 1 animal in fitting and Showing and it must be the project of the exhibitor. Pygmy and meat breeds will show against each other in fitting and showing classes. 8- All animals must be in proper physical condition, be properly identified and free of visual evidence of infectious, contagious or parasitic disease at the time of arrival. No health papers are required, however, animals showing evidence of sickness, infections, contagious or parasitic disease will result in the animal s rejection for entry. The inspector s decision is final. 9- Prospect market goats may be either sex and must have milk teeth and be castrated. 10- Date of show will be used to determine age groups for animals. 11- Registered animals must be in the name of the exhibitor or the farm. 12- Any does over 24 months of age that has not kidded and cannot prove a current pregnancy will not be allowed to show and will be disqualified. 13- All market goats must be tagged with the official 4-H tag by May 3, Goats cannot be braced and must be shown with all four feet on the ground. Animals must be shown with a chain or collar used only to control the animal. Exhibitor can only briefly touch their animal with their body and cannot use the chain/collar to make their animal tense their muscles.
