2 H ENROLLMENT Enrollment for the H year is available on 4h online. Please be sure to enroll ASAP!.. It just take a minute. The website is: Iowa.4honline.com. You will use your user name and password that was previously set up. Do not create a new profile. Reminder: ALL 4-H ers AND leaders MUST re-enroll each year. PHOTOS NEEDED! Planning is underway for the 2016 Awards Festival and we want to be sure that all 4-H ers have the opportunity to have their achievements, fun activities or embarrassing moments recognized in the slide show. Please forward your photos to mtaggs@iastate.edu. Please indicate which club you belong to. BEEF WEIGH-IN Beef weigh-in date has been set for Saturday, December 10th. Mark your calendar now! OFFICER BOOKS Club officer books are due to the Extension office on Monday Oct. 31st. Club officers that should turn in a book: Secretary, Treasurer and Historian. (NOTE: reporter books are no longer required) Materials for each club officer were given out at officer training. If you are a club officer and did not attend officer training, please contact the Extension office for details. Club treasurers: watch your for more information on club audits. Club officer book awards will be given out at Awards Festival on Nov. 13th. LEADER MEETING ALL LEADERS (project and organizational leaders) are encouraged to attend our Fall leaders meeting on Monday, Oct. 24th. Dinner will be served at 5:45PM. Please RSVP by Fri. Oct. 21st to mtaggs@iastate.edu. Please include any dietary restriction's. If you have topics you would like to have covered, please let me know! MISSION STATEMENT 4-H EMPOWERS YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL WORKING AND LEARNING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CARING ADULTS

3 4-H COMMITTEE As your club is electing officers for the upcoming 4-H year, don t forget to elect/appoint a member and an adult to the 4-H committee. The Extension Council has approved a job description for the 4-H committee, please see the attachment. We meet the second Monday of the month at the Extension office at 7PM. To learn more about this and other leadership opportunities, please call or Mary. TEEN LEADERSHIP RETREAT 9 Shelby County 4-H ers, along with 4-H ers from 5 other area counties, attended the Leadership Retreat at Swan Lake on Sat. Sept. 17th. They had a great time, meet new friends and learned a lot about themselves and their leadership style. This leadership opportunity was paid for by the generous donations to the 2016 Shelby County Fair Pie and Muffin Auction. CLOVER KIDS IS GROWING!!! We now have 6 Clover Kid clubs in Shelby County! With more than 70 Clover Kids enrolled, 4-H is growing in Shelby County! If you know of any children grades K-3 that may be interested in joining one of our clubs, please talk with them about Clover Kids or ask them to give me a call. 4 AWARDS FESTIVAL!!!! Shelby County 4-H awards festival will be held on Sunday, November 13th at the Harlan High School. We are once again planning for games, prizes, food and entertainment! We ask that each club provide a game (we ll provide the prizes!) and every family provide a dish for the pot luck. Details attached! Awards will be given for 100% attendance, most improved Jr/ Int/Sr, Jr and Int. club project awards, top record keeping system, county project awards (Int & Sr) and personal development awards (Sr. 4-H ers) OFFICER TRAINING Club officer training will be from 9-10:30AM on Sat. Nov. 12th at the Extension office. Pres/VP/Sec/Treas/Reporter/Historian/Recreation FSQA Who needs to certify? ALL 4-H and FFA members exhibiting beef, swine, sheep and dairy (both dairy cattle and dairy goat), meat goat, rabbit and poultry at the Shelby County Fair, Iowa State Fair and AK-SAR-BEN must be certified. All other food animal exhibitors are encouraged to attend to learn more about their responsibility to produce safe food FSQA DATES: Wed. Dec. 28th 10AM Tues. Feb. 7th 6:30PM Fri. June 2nd 10AM Clover Kids and Discovery 4-H ers are not required to take FSQA as they are not allowed to sell any animals at the auction. Youth in grades 4-6 must attend a 2-hour certification program every year to be FSQA certified. Youth in grades 7-9 will have the option of attending a training every year, or completing a test which will certify them until they reach the 10th grade.
