1 OSU Extension Service - Morrow County 4-H July Happenings Tri-County 4-H Camp! Inside this issue: Morrow, Gilliam and Wheeler counties combined to put on the annual Tri-County 4-H Camp designed for 4 th -6 th graders held at Cutsforth Park this past week. Students had quite a schedule to keep them busy and with the help of 22 volunteer counselors, the camp was a success! We would like to thank the following people who helped at camp, Sam Bates, Marissa Humphreys, Shannon Binder, Cheryl Taylor, Debbie Bunch, Larry Lutcher, Jamie Sprando and Kevin Payne. 3 Page 3 Speakeasy 14 junior members met at the BMCC Workforce Development Center to learn the art of public speaking from 4-H guru, Cindy Osterland. 5 Page 5 Weigh-In Rules & Regulations for Fair Market Animal Rules: Swine must be weighed on Wednesday from 6 AM to 9 AM, Beef from 8 AM to 10 AM, and Sheep and Goat from 9 AM - 10 AM. No animals will be allowed to have foreign material on them to weigh. This includes all animals. You cannot pump liquid or feeds into animals or drench in any way. All animals will be weighed one time. If an animal doesn t make weight, that animal will be reweighed immediately. Members with hogs, sheep and steers not making weight (over or under) are eligible to compete in showmanship or feeder classes only not market classes. White ribbon market animals are not eligible for the sale. When a market animal is weighed in at spring weigh-in, that animal must have a declared fair exhibitor at that time. A market animal may be declared a family back-up, but must still account for one of the member s three market animals weighed-in at spring weigh-in. Only immediate siblings are eligible to share a family back-up animal. To declare a family back-up animal, a family back-up animal form must be filled out and turned in to the 4-H office. NEW RULES THIS YEAR All animals must be clipped and sheared prior to crossing scales. Touch ups will be allowed only on grounds. Paperwork must be submitted prior to animals crossing the scales as well. Please complete the appropriate Affidavits and COOL forms and put them in your glove box now! Important State Fair Exhibit Information! For those of you that may have items selected to compete at the Oregon State Fair, please read!!! State Fair Exhibits are due to the Extension Office in Heppner anytime from 8:00am-4:30pm on Monday, August 20th. Erin will take them to state fair on Tuesday the 21st. We have a short turn around time between county fair and state fair, so for those of you with foods exhibits, plan ahead in case your exhibit is chosen to go to state fair! You can either freeze part of your first batch to use, or you can make a fresh exhibit Sunday! All exhibit requirements (recipe cards, explanation sheets, etc.) are also required at state fair! If you have questions contact the 4-H office as soon as possible. If your exhibit is not there and ready to go on Monday then it will not be sent to State Fair!

Morgan Orem has earned a $1000 scholarship from the 4-H Leader s Council! The scholarship is open to any graduating senior who is a member of Morrow County 4-H.
