2 2014 Florida Fat Steer and Beef Breeding Show General Rules *These rules apply to the Florida Fat Steer Show, American Breed Steer Show, and Beef Breeding Show. Exhibitors must be a member of 4-H, FFA, Florida Junior Cattlemen s Association, college enrolled, or a breed association, up to the age of 21. NO GENERATORS are allowed inside the barn for any reason. Owner is responsible for the care of his/her own animals. You are responsible for bringing your own bedding. The show committee will not supply tie space bedding. All bedding and trash must be cleaned before leaving the show; this includes tie areas outside of the barn. No exception. Health certificates on all livestock will be required during check-in, per the request of the KVLS facility. Committee members reserve the right to disqualify exhibitors due to safety issues if needed. ALL CATTLE must be tied inside the fenced area around the KVLS barn per the KVLS facility no exception. No cattle may be tied to any chain-linked fence at any time. Showmanship will be $25.00 per exhibitor, and will compete with exhibitors participating in the all other shows during the weekend. Showmanship categories will be as follows: Pee Wee (7 and under) Junior (8-11) Intermediate (12-14) Senior (15-19 not graduated from High School) Know It All (19-29, has graduated from High School) Antique (30 and over) Rules for the Florida Fat Steer Show can be found on The entry deadline for this show has passed. 3 Beef Breed Show Information Cattle may be shown as long as they are 3 years of age or younger. All animals will be shown by weight, except Zebus, which will be shown by age. There will be 2 divisions for heifers Brahman Influenced, and non-brahman Influenced breeds. There will not be a Supreme Heifer. 20 head or more of any breed will be given their own breed show. Purebred heifer entries are appreciated by Dec. 1 st so we may plan for awards. Entries: $25.00 entry due by December 1, Late entries will be accepted at the show, with a $10.00 late fee. Progress Steer Show Information This show is for calves that are progressing in their development and growth, and is not intended for slaughter-ready steers. Steers cannot weigh over 900 lbs in order to be eligible for this show. Awards: We will place the top 5 steers overall. Grand and Reserve Champion Steers will receive monetary prizes as well as buckles. Payout will be $300 for Grand and $200 for Reserve. Entry: $50.00 entry due by December 1, Late entries will be accepted at the show, with a $20.00 late fee. Stock Show University Clinic We are extremely happy that Stock Show University will be coming back for a third year to present one of their amazing educational programs. The clinic will take place on Saturday, January 4 th at 11 AM in the KVLS arena. What is it? Stock Show University is a FREE educational clinic open to all stock show youth and adults, compliments of Sullivan Supply. We will be hosting clinics at shows and homes across the country, including Beef Expos, major shows, Junior Nationals as well as local area shows; all FREE of charge! 4 Date: January 4 th, 2013 KVLS Arena Kissimmee, Florida Registration will begin at 1 PM Contest will begin at 2 PM FFSS Livestock Evaluation Contest Rules and Information This contest will be officiated by the University of Florida Livestock Evaluation team. Open to all 4-H, FFA, and Jr Cattlemen s teams in the state of Florida. Individuals may enter as well. Teams can be entered via mail, , or on location the day of the event. Pre-entries are appreciated. Entry forms can be found on the last page of this packet. Volunteers to help scorecards are greatly appreciated. We will try our best to announce results the day of the event. Results may take up to 2 hours past the end of the contest. We will give awards for both individuals and teams. A list of specific classes will be announced at a later date, and you can check or our Facebook page for additional information as it becomes available. There is not a limit to the number of individuals or teams that may be entered. Fitting and Grooming Contest In Partnership with Stock Show University The purpose of this contest is to encourage junior members to gain the ability to work with a team to enhance the showing performance of the groomed animal. All participants will receive product goody bags sponsored by Sullivan Supply. Teams will consist of 3 individuals one junior, one intermediate and one senior/college exhibitor. Teams must register at the exhibitor registration table by no later than 6:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 3 rd. There will be prizes for the top 3 teams. An entry fee of $30 per team ($10/person) should accompany an entry form at time of registration. *continued on the next page

5 Each team will be responsible for bringing a heifer, bull or steer to use in the competition. Heifers, bulls and steers are not to be groomed; but, should be washed and dried. Major clipping should also be done before the contest. Animals will be checked before entering the competition area. Each team must provide their own fitting equipment. Once the contest begins, no team member may leave the area and no additional equipment may be brought into the fitting area. Teams will also be required to bring chutes to be used in the competition. There will be no outside help from parents, fitters, leaders, etc. No coaching allowed. All team members and fitting equipment must be in place at least 5 minutes prior to the announced starting of the contest. Each team will be allowed 30 minutes to fit their animal. Once the animal has been groomed and time is called, one member from each team will take the animal from the chute and exhibit the animal for the judges as they would in any normal cattle show. Judges will then make comments and announce a winner. Judging will take place from a panel of 2-3 judges. The contest will be assessed at a total of 50 points. Points will be awarded as follows: Ability to Fit 20 points Organization of Supplies & Equipment 5 points Participation of Each Team Member 10 points Overall Effect 5 points Showmanship of Animal 10 points
