4 ANNOUNCEMENTS & EVENT INFORMATION 4-H Breaking Barriers to Build Bridges in the Community. State Cont. & Regional News Clover Kids Get to See What Crops Missouri State Fair!!! A special day for Clover Kids (youth ages 5-7) will be featured in the 4-H building in Sedalia on August 14. All 4 Clover Kids and their families are invited to attend the event. Clover Kids can: display an item they have made, receive a State Fair participation ribbon, give a demonstration, participate in arts/crafts, science and other learning activities, and see cool 4-H stuff displayed in the building! - Missouri Summer Jobs League / State Park Youth Corps Whether you re a young person looking for your first job or an internship to round out your resume, the Summer Job League is your connection to real-world work experience. The Summer Job League is specially created for Missouri s emerging workforce, ages 16-24, who want to get a jump start on their future while earning some extra cash. Visit: Northwest Missouri Regional Crowder Camp was held on June 6-9th and then 13th-16th. The youth and staff braved the heat to have a blast at camp! The youth were able to learn and try; canoeing, leather shop, crafts, swimming, bee education, campfire cooking, skits, games, pollination education, nature, challenges, dancing, character education, and so much more! Youth made friends that would last a life time as well as confidence to carry them through life. I really enjoyed watching youth come that were really nervous and by the end of camp had a blast and didn t want to go home! We all learned how 4-H Camp Crowder Inside and Out is the best week ever! Want to know more about camp? Talk to Cowen O Riley or the Herron s about their time at camp! State Shoot Registration for the State Shoot is scheduled to open on July 5 and will close on August 1. Registration for both the August 27 & 28 events and the September 24 & 25 events will be combined into one registration as done in the days of paper registration forms. The State Trap Shoot on August 27 and the 300 Archery event on August will be self-scheduled again. This year the state Skeet Shoot will take place on Sunday, August 28 in the St. Louis area. What Happens at FilmFest? Learning how things are done in the movies (from the film industry professionals who make them), and then exploring how your own creative plans can be accomplished (with your level of experience and a teenager s budget). Our past guests have included actors, producers, editors, special effects gurus, makeup artists, pet trainers and more! Interested? June 30 is deadline so contact Sam O Riley right away!
5 CLUB NEWS 4-H ers Green 365 days of the year! Lucky Clover Lucky Clovers joined forces to tackle the jungle outside of the Velma Houts building on May 18th. They pulled lots of weeds, planted new flowers, and put down new mulch. This area is seen by many when they pull into Rock Port as well as lot s of people who come to the Atchison County Fair. The University of Missouri Extension office of Atchison County thanks you for all your hard work! It looks great out there! Wolverines To the left you see Goldie Barnes demonstrating on Grace Oswald s bottle calf the proper way to comb the hair of the calf. Before this they were part of their clubs business meeting that everyone told what they would be taking to Achievement Day. Sam O Riley is asking that all club members please turn their project tags in ahead of time to ensure a smooth night and enough volunteers to conference judge. On another occasion the cake decorating project group in Wolverine s gathered to make cakes from scratch and learn how to ice them as well. Thanks to Tiff Gaines for helping us learn new tips for decorating cakes! Farmer City Farmer City has been busy at the rodeo this year as well as their usual June meeting! They were in the rodeo parade and cleaned up after the event as well. The Monday before the rodeo they got together for their business meeting and enjoyed a fun game. Josie King and her grandma Ponya went out and enjoyed the weather while beautifying Westboro. They planted flowers on Main Street for all to see and enjoy! This is the perfect time of year for you to get out and help others. You could make a bird house for an elderly neighbor, mow a yard for someone, plant flowers, pull weeds, take someone s dog for a walk, etc.. There are so many things that we can do to help others and get some exercise as well. I challenge you to go out and help someone and send me pictures of you good deed to give others ideas of how they can help others as well. The University of Missouri-Columbia complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended. If you have a disability and need accommodations in connection with Atchison County 4-H, please notify us at 201 E US HWY 136/ as soon as possible so that necessary arrangements can be made.

The youth and even the adults had quite a time learning different techniques to use for their local Achievement Day during the Atchison County Fair as well as the State Fair if their item was sent on. If you or someone you know are interested in lending your skills to teach youth in different areas please contact Sam O Riley. Tate Johnson went to the State Wide Clown Workshop in Jeff City on May 14th and had a great time! He started the day learning the history of clowns and clowning, different types of clowns, demonstrated ballooning and was taught how to make them, skits, magic tricks, make-up, juggling, and different outfits.
