3 Page 3 County Corner St. Clair County 4-H Show-A-Rama Procedures Thursday, August 2, 2018 Scheve Park Agriculture Building 1. All exhibits must be completed during the current year by the 4-H'er beginning on September 1, 2017 and finished no later than the 2018 show date. Follow exhibit guidelines in show book. 2. If you have an oversized project, please contact Laura Ohren at or ohren@illinois.edu so that she may plan space at the show. 3 All exhibits must be in place between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2 for the 4-H Show-A- Rama. Projects will be released on Sunday, August 5 from 12:00 PM to 1:30PM. 4. Conference judging will be held from 6:00 8:30 p.m. 5. Only judges & superintendents are allowed in the conference judging room with 4-H Member & projects. 6. All ribbons must remain with the project exhibit until release time. 7. It is the decision of the judges to grant a State Fair Award to the superior exhibits. 8. Exhibitors are responsible for protecting their project with clear plastic if they wish. 9. If you are unable to attend conference judging at Show-A-Rama you may write a 1-page paper explaining the steps you took to create the project, list things you learned from the project, and ideas for future exhibits. A fellow club member, leader, or parent can bring your projects to Show-A-Rama H members receiving State Fair selection must let Extension staff know a definite answer as soon as possible prior to ( ) or at the time of project pick-up (12:00p.m. to 1:30p.m.) on Sunday, August 5 if you plan to attend State Fair judging. You may only exhibit in one area at the State Fair. *Adult passes will be available for $5 (half price) at project release, on a first-come, first-serve basis. CLOVERBUDS UPCOMING INFORMATION/DATES Secretary & Treasurer books are due September 15, Please make sure all of the meeting minutes are included and signed in the Secretaries books and that all of the Treasurer books have 5 (five) signatures (4-H Club Treasurer, 4-H Club Leader and 3 (three) Fiscal Review Committee members who are not to be members of your club). Watch your for information about Award Applications. 4 Page 4 County Corner St. Clair County Information on 4-H animal show rules from the Livestock Committee On August 3, 2018, all livestock must be in place by 8:00 a.m. All exhibits must remain on display until Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Noon. 4-H Shows are an opportunity for the public to learn about 4-H Projects. Therefore, all projects are expected to remain until release day. Livestock Committee is responsible for all livestock shows and release times. This year all pens will be assigned by superintendents in order to make sure everyone has enough space. 4-H ers will not be allowed to reserve their own pens as they did in the past. Please let your superintendent know how many animals you will be bringing at least one week before the show. (See contact information to the right). Read the market animal auction rules on page 71 & 72 of the 4-H Show Book. Poultry exhibitors: Birds will be tested on site to the actual show on Friday, August 3. However, if you have the number or the certificate for a certified flock, please bring to the August 3 4-H show. There will not be a water trough. Exhibitors must bring buckets! Anyone planning on camping at the 4-H show must contact Darin Dennis, upon arrival. There will be a $20 fee for anyone using electric for a camper or tent the weekend of fair. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing during all judging events! 4-H members MUST not wear clothing promoting a business/company in the show ring during the 4-H shows nor at the auction! 4-H members are allowed to wear 4-H promotional shirts. Bob Waller has reserved slots at Behrmann s for after the show if anyone is interested in taking their hog in to be butchered. Please let him know if you need any slots and how many so he can make sure he has enough. PARADE FLOATS If your club is having a parade float, please send in the forms to the MIA so that you are guaranteed a spot. Your club will want an early spot in order to be back in time for the auction. THANK YOU! Understanding 4-H premiums In the past, the Illinois Department of Ag has provided funds to local Illinois 4-H members in the forms of premiums (cash prizes) for participation in 4-H shows and exhibitions. We currently have no guarantee that those funds will be provided. We treasure each of our 4-H families and know that you make a financial investment in your 4-H project work. We hope you continue to take pride in your 4-H learning and continue to participate fully in the 4-H program. As you are aware, we have no control on the actions of Illinois government. Celebrating volunteers at the fair If you re a volunteer leader, be sure to check in at the Information booth at the Orr Building Aug during the 4-H General Show to receive a free gift! Foundation Hall of Fame ceremony set The Illinois 4-H Foundation will honor one volunteer leader from each county at a ceremony during the Illinois State Fair. The celebration begins at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 as part of Ag Day at the fair right before the Sale of Champions activities begin. Supporters and families of the recipients are welcome to attend.
