2 Assessment & Certification Overview At Scrum.org, we help ensure that individuals understand how to deliver high value software with higher levels of agility using Scrum. To help meet that goal and our overall mission to improve the profession of software development, Scrum.org provides assessments that can be used as tools to examine and enhance your knowledge of Scrum. The primary aim of these assessments is to provide certification and information about an individual, team or organization s level of knowledge and highlight areas for improvement. Scrum.org assessments are grounded in the Scrum Guide, which is written and maintained by Scrum s founders, Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, and freely available via a link from Scrum.org: Assessments are available for anyone to take, whether or not you take a training class or workshop. We believe that Scrum knowledge can come from many places, including real-world experiences, coaches, training and more. The assessments provide feedback on your knowledge of Scrum and how to apply it, not knowledge solely gained from course material. Our Professional Scrum certifications assess one s Scrum understanding and ability to apply Scrum in real-world scenarios. We continue delivering new and improved practices built upon the Scrum framework all in line with our mission to improve the profession of software development. Once you receive a Professional Scrum certification, you keep that certification and remain listed on our website forever. 3 Certification Assessments Each of the Scrum.org assessments are developed with formal input from Ken Schwaber and a wide range of industry experts. They are then enhanced with input from the larger Scrum community. The assessments are under constant review by our community as we continuously work to update and improve the assessments and related materials. Certification assessments include: Open Assessments Scrum.org provides a series of Open assessments that allow you to gauge your basic knowledge of Scrum, software development using Scrum, and the fundamentals of scaling Scrum. There is no fee for these assessments. Passing the Open assessments along with things like work experience, and thorough knowledge of the Scrum Guide, Nexus Guide and more will help prepare you for our professional level assessments and certifications. Open assessments include:

4 Professional Scrum Certification Assessments Scrum.org provides four families of Professional Scrum certification assessments. These assessments cover a range of areas related to the knowledge and realworld usage of Scrum. Passing these credible and consistent assessments is highly regarded as true industry certification by individuals, organizations and industry associations. Not only can the assessments be used to prove a person s knowledge, but organizations can also leverage the assessments as a way to look for areas where improvement is needed across their team or organization. Through the assessments, you can ensure that all members of the team or organization have the same understanding of Scrum. It will also help to gain a better understanding of strengths and weaknesses across the team, helping to determine what training and coaching may lead to improvement. Validate your training Participants each receive a complimentary level I assessment attempt after attending a Scrum.org training course or workshop.

5 PROFESSIONAL SCRUM MASTER I, II & III The essential fundamental level for Scrum mastery. This level proves that the individual understands Scrum as described in The Scrum Guide and the concepts of applying Scrum. PSM I holders have a consistent terminology and approach to Scrum. The advanced level for Scrum mastery. This level proves that the individual understands the underlying principles of Scrum and can effectively apply Scrum in complex, real-world situations. The distinguished level for Scrum mastery. This level proves that the individual has a deep understanding of the application of Scrum, Scrum practices and the Scrum Values. Those who pass PSM III also have the ability to apply Scrum in a variety of complex team and organizational situations. Those who pass the PSM assessments will receive the industry-recognized PSM I, II or III certification, along with the respective PSM badge that you can use to identify your achievement. Become a Professional Scrum Trainer (PST) If you are an expert in Scrum and have extensive experience applying, leading, and coaching it, submit your application today or learn more here: PROFESSIONAL SCRUM PRODUCT OWNER I & II To be effective, Scrum Product Owners need to have a firm grasp on the value drivers for their product, and a keen sense of how to use agile practices and Scrum to maximize that value. Those who pass the Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) level I assessment demonstrate a good understanding of the Scrum framework, and how to apply it to maximize the value delivered with a product. Achieving PSPO I certification is the minimum demonstration of knowledge any Professional Scrum Product Owner should be able to make. Those that pass the assessment will receive the industry recognized PSPO I certification as an indication of their abilities. The PSPO level II assesses a persons advanced level of understanding of how the Scrum framework can support the creation of value, and how to achieve it in the real world. Like the PSM II, assessment takers are presented with a mix of multiple-choice and essay-based questions and answers to essay questions are graded directly by Scrum.org staff. People then receive written feedback to explain their final grade and provide additional insight into their answers. Those who pass the PSPO II assessment receive the prized industry recognized certification for exhibiting an understanding of professionalism and a high level of commitment to improving the value delivered with software development using Scrum.

6 PROFESSIONAL SCRUM DEVELOPER Building excellent software using Scrum requires the entire Development Team to have a solid understanding of Scrum, effective software development practices, and the tools that support them. All members of the Development Team need the fundamental knowledge of using Scrum, be it in testing, coding, designing user interfaces, documenting the product, database management, etc. The Professional Scrum Developer (PSD) assessment covers the use of effective software development techniques with Scrum that are described in the PSD subject areas. Those who achieve the industry recognized PSD certification by passing the PSD assessment have demonstrated knowledge of developing software using agile engineering practices such as Test- First Development, Continuous Integration (CI), and emergent architecture. You can prepare for all level one assessments by practicing with their respective Open assessments, which are free to use here: SCALED PROFESSIONAL SCRUM Many software developers have used the Scrum framework to work collectively as a team to develop an increment of working software. However, if more than one Scrum Team is building a product, working with the same Product Backlog and in the same code base, difficulties often arise. If the developers are not in the same collocated team, how will the team communicate when they are doing work that impacts each other? If you work in different teams, how will the team integrate their work and test the Integrated Increment? These challenges appear when two teams are integrating, and become significantly more difficult with three or more teams. The Scaled Professional Scrum (SPS) assessment evaluates your knowledge on scaling large software development projects using Scrum and the Nexus framework. This is an intermediate-level assessment that confirms that you know appropriate agile practices and scaling fundamentals that apply to multiple Scrum Teams working together. Successfully passing the SPS assessment and therefore receiving industry recognized SPS certification also indicate that you can manage and participate in scaled software and product development using Nexus.

7 TRAINING If you are looking for further education in Scrum, you can attend one of the many public or private courses and workshops that are taught by Scrum.org Professional Scrum Trainers. These courses which are available around the world use the same training materials and curriculum no matter which trainer is teaching them and include the corresponding assessment as part of the training class. If you have a larger Scrum Team who is interested in training, private courses are also available. Scrum.org provides the highest quality Scrum training, training materials and certified Professional Scrum Trainers (PSTs) to teach it. This is all in line with our mission to improve the profession of software development. The curriculum and courseware are highly-tuned and standardized. They are created and maintained by Ken Schwaber, co-creator of Scrum, Scrum.org and the PST community, helping to ensure that they are always in tune with what s happening in software development organizations, and always up-to-date with the latest practices. Trainers bring their own style and experience to their courses, but use consistent materials so that students are learning from the same content regardless of where the course is taught. Each class includes access to an assessment which not only validates students learning on the class, but also helps ensure the quality of the delivery. These assessments are decoupled from the classes and delivered in an electronic form. The decoupling of assessments from training not only ensures an objective measurement for the student, but also allows Scrum.org to gather feedback and fine tune training materials and their delivery.
