1 Approximately one out of every two American men and one out of every three American women will have some type of cancer during their lifetime. Whether it is a personal battle or the struggle of a loved one, it is an unfortunate fact that cancer will have a profound effect on each of our lives. As the fight rages on in hospitals and research facilities, we ask ourselves: What can we do? What small part can we play? For 18 years, the Students Government Association (SGA)of La Salle University has held its annual Basketball Marathon to raise not only awareness of cancer, but also to raise money for advancing research and revolutionary cures. In 18 years, the Students Government Association has raised more than $100,000 for the American Cancer Society with the Basketball Marathon. The Marathon is a 24-hour event in which hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and other members of the La Salle community sponsor their own basketball teams that will Shoot for the Cure. Realizing that everyone may not have great skills on the court, the Students Government Association has added a few new elements to the Marathon this year, including volleyball games, to involve all who come out to support our endeavors. Today, we are asking for the support of alumni, parents, corporations, and friends of La Salle University as we Shoot for the Cure. 4 Team Application Form This year s 19th Annual Basketball Marathon to benefit the American Cancer Society will allow participants to play basketball and volleyball. In order to secure a 50-minute time slot, each team must pay an entrance fee. 1. Entrance fees per team: Basketball $100 and Volleyball $50 2. An application must be completed and sent to: La Salle University ATTN: Students Government Association, Box West Olney Avenue Philadelphia, PA Or dropped off in Union 119A 3. Both the application and donation must be sent in together. Time slots will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. 4. Teams donating $100 or more will get their organization s name on the back of the event T-shirt. One shirt is given out for every $10 donated. 5.
