2 Running is an experience of the body and mind, and this past summer, I have been shown what the mind can compel the body to do. I am a member of the Cincinnati Galloway Run- Walk Marathon training group, as is Matt Wilbur, a courageous advocate for the mission of Team Fox. I spent time training with Matt this past summer. He humbly and quietly told me about his struggles with Parkinson's disease, how he turned his love of distance running into a testament for the work of your foundation, and that the 2012 NYC Marathon was to be his last one. His fastest marathon time was just under 3 hours years ago, but these days, it takes him over 7 hours to cover the 26.2 mile distance. In his eyes and his heart, I see his running spirit, no matter the physical limitation Parkinson's presents. Matt persevered through his training this past summer, despite the limitations of his condition, in order to raise money for Team Fox. He met his fundraising goals. He has been a true inspiration, not only to me but other members of our training group also. Matt was affected by the cancellation of the NYC Marathon following Hurricane Sandy. Unlike others, he is not one of those runners who can say "There will be other marathons." I saw the hours of dedication, to both his training and fundraising, so I expected this would be difficult news for him. I know he understands why the run wasn't held, but when a runner makes the training investment and then has the "rug yanked out", it is heartbreaking. I was compelled to do something to honor Matt's courage and sacrifice for Team Fox, so I enlisted the help of running friends from our group to organize a local marathon for him. It is not a formal race, but the group members are doing everything in our power to bring him an experience so that he can finish what he started - run a marathon to bring awareness to Parkinson's disease and provide a means to express that through the money he raised in preparing for NYC. The 26.2 mile course has been designed to make reference to several NYC landmarks using the Cincinnati, OH, area including: Eden Park/Washington Park/Central Parkway (Central Park) Roebling Bridge (Brooklyn Bridge) Downtown Cincinnati (Manhattan) I asked Matt to name this event, and he suggested the "One Step Ahead of Parkinson's Disease" Marathon. This was inspired by the name of a book he recently published and is currently on sale at Amazon.com. All of us here in the Greater Cincinnati area who are going to be running, cheering, and supporting him all want to "Keep Matt One Step Ahead of Parkinson's Disease!" SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1, :30pm set- up 6:50am instructions and last- minute information 6:55am - National Anthem 7:00am course opens/race starts race ends 2:30pm remarks from Matt & closing of race 2:45pm post- race refreshments at Coffee Emporium 110 East Central Parkway, Cincinnati, OH, COURSE INFORMATION The course winds its way west from Cinci Flying Pig Marathon course run in the reverse direction to downtown, crossing over the Ohio River to run through neighborhoods in Newport and Covington, KY, back across the river, and into downtown. The finish line is in Washington Park, which is a beautiful facility in the Over- the- Rhine area (opened in mid- 2012). Matt has a connection to this facility, as Jeff Martin (his son- in- law) works for 3CDC, the company responsible for this park. In fact, Jeff himself was heavily involved in the creation of it. There will be a moving aid station that moves from point- to- point along the course. The following are the locations of the stop points for the aid station, which can be used as spectator stops as well. Each area has nearby parking and easy access to the course. 5 START LINE Lunken Airport Main Terminal, intersection of Airport Road and Wilmer Avenue, Cincinnati, OH Parking is in a lot adjacent to the terminal and is entered from Airport Road Start will be in the front of the terminal The trail circling the airport (see red lines) will be used for the course

6 STOP 1 (mi 4.25) - Armleder Dog Park - directions from start: o travel northwest along Wilmer Rd from terminal to Beechmont Loop o left on Beechmont Circle Rd, following loop around and under Beechmont Ave o left on Wooster Rd, right on Armleder Rd, then turning right again to continue on Armleder to parking lot at dog park - port- a- john available STOP 2 (mi 9.5) - Lunken Terminal (same as start point) - directions from Stop 1: o Armleder Rd to intersection then left again on Armleder Rd o left on Wooster Rd o right on Beechmont Circle, following loop around and under Beechmont Ave o right on Wilmer Rd and return to same parking lot as the start

7 STOP 3 (mi 11.5) - Mt. Lookout United Dairy Farmers - directions from Stop 2 o left out of Lunken Terminal parking on to Airport Rd o veer left on to Eastern Ave o right on Delta Ave, proceeding several miles north up the hill o at Mt. Lookout Square roundabout, turn left on to Delta Ave and then immediately veer right, continuing on Delta - parking would be along Delta Avenue (spots are metered) - bathroom at UDF

8 STOP 4 (mi 13) - Hyde Park Square - directions from Stop 3: o continue north on Delta Ave away from UDF o left on Erie Ave to intersection of Erie and Michigan Aves - park on Michigan Ave, in the square (if spots are available), on Edwards Rd (1 block west of square), or on Shaw (1 block east of square, just before you get to Michigan); many spots are metered - bathrooms at various businesses on the square

9 STOP 5 (mi 14.3) Bob Roncker s Running Spot (1993 Madison Road Cincinnati, OH 45208) - directions from Stop 4 o continue west on Erie Ave away from Hyde Park Square o left on Madison Ave o nearby cross street is Cohoon St ) - park on Madison Rd, Cohoon St (spots are metered), or the public pay lot off Cohoon

10 STOP 6 (mi 16.5) - OH River Lake Drive - directions from Stop 5 o o left on Woodburn Ave (landmark is St. Frances de Sales Church) o right on E. MacMillan St o left on Victory Parkway (curves right then turns into Park Ave for a short distance) o veer left on Eden Park Dr (crossing over small bridge) o left on Lake Drive - park anywhere along Lake Drive (overlook to the Ohio River); bathrooms available

11 STOP 7 (mi 19.5) - Newport on the Levee - directions from Stop 6 (these do not follow the marathon route) o left out of overlook on to Eden Park Drive (go past Krohn Conservatory) o follow Eden Park Dr as it bears right toward roundabout o follow roundabout counterclockwise (bearing left) to continue on Eden Park Dr o go through intersection of Eden Park Drive and Gilbert Ave, continuing downhill to intersection of Eden Park Dr and I71 SOUTH exit ramp o left on to I71 SOUTH exit ramp, merging with I71 south o right on I471 exit (exit 1J), continuing across Big Mac (yellow) bridge over Ohio River o right on KY 8 exit (far right lane, immediately over bridge), bearing right to Park Ave o left on KY 8 West/Dave Cohens Dr o left on Washington Ave o right on 3 rd St - park in Newport on the Levee lot, on Saratoga St (stop light just before Levee entrance) between 3 rd and 4 th St, or on 4 th St between Monmouth and York St

12 STOP 8 (mi 23.5) - 5th & Broadway St, P&G Gardens - directions from Stop 7 (these do not follow the marathon route) o proceed west from Newport on the Levee on 3 rd St o right on to Taylor- Southgate Bridge (immediately past Newport on the Levee) across river o proceed straight across Pete Rose Way through the intersection, merging on Broadway Ave o proceed intersection of Broadway St and 3 rd St o right on 5 th St - parking along 5 th St (spots are metered)

13 FINISH LINE Washington Park, 12 th and Elm Sts, downtown Cincinnati (Over- the- Rhine area) - parking along either 12 th or Elm Sts - route will head north up Elm St from Central Parkway, turning right (east) on 12 th, and the right again (south) on Race Street - finish line will be accessed on east side of park, with gathering area near northeast corner
