2 SAMPLE NEWSLETTER ARTICLE Eversource Walk & 5K Run For Easterseals A team from (your company/organization name) will be participating in the EVERSOUCE WALK & 5K RUN FOR EASTERSEALS on Thursday, June 1 st to help make a difference for local children and adults with disabilities. Last year, Easterseals helped over 26,912 local people with services that ranged from early intervention and inclusive child care to special transportation, vocational placement, special education, services for veterans, a dental clinic, adult day services that include Alzheimer s day treatment and a short-term gero/psychology program, substance abuse, and rehabilitation, including physical, occupational, and speech/language therapies. 5 RECRUITING YOUR TEAM EVERSOURCE WALK & 5K RUN FOR EASTERSEALS CHECKLIST MONTH OF MARCH: ATTEND THE KICK-OFF AND PICK UP TEAM CAPTAIN S KIT! Review the materials. Feel free to call Easterseals with questions/tips on how to get started: Set team goals: How many walkers do you want to recruit? How much money do you wish to raise? Create your team web page at Easterseals.com/NH (We recommend using your company name as it will be easier for other s to find.) Place an EVERSOURCE WALK & 5K RUN FOR EASTERSEALS article in your company s e-newsletter announcing your company is forming a team and doing fundraising. A sample article in included in this kit for you to personalize. Post the event on Facebook! Promote joining your team or sponsoring your team! Put brochures/posters in centrally-located, well-traveled locations, and let co-workers know where they can get one. Be sure walkers contact you directly so you can keep track of your team members. Keeping track on-line is the #1 choice, therefore encourage online registration! Week One: April 3 - April 7 GETTING STARTED Get some help people located in different departments or work sites who can encourage co-workers and their families and friends to join you. ANYONE can be on your team! Tweet your contacts that you have a team! Try to get on the agendas of all May/June meetings. Contact Easterseals ( ) if you would like a staff member to come speak to your co-workers. This will help recruit your team! Find out if your company provides matching funds for charitable donations. If your company isn t listed, contact your Human Resources manager and ask whether or not the company will match your pledges. Week Two: April 10 - April 14 NETWORKING WORKS Determine the best communications network in your organization. Use , Facebook, Constant Contact, Twitter, voice mail, memos, paycheck stuffers, bulletin boards and word of mouth to let everyone know about the EVERSOURCE WALK & 5K RUN FOR EASTERSEALS. Sample messages are included. Think of other ways to get people involved. Involve management! Promote friendly competition between departments or plan an informational meeting or booth in the lunch room to get the word out to everyone. Encourage online registration! Ask your team to talk it up posting the event on Facebook and Twitter! Week Three: April 17 April 21 TEAM BUILDING EVENT Host a team fundraiser such as a 50/50 raffle or car wash. Advertise this event on your team web page! Continued on reverse side.

6 RECRUITING YOUR TEAM, a weekly checklist, continued Week Four: April 24 - April 28 KEEPING EVERYONE INFORMED Inspire team to fundraise for the EVERSOURCE WALK & 5K RUN FOR EASTERSEALS (share an Easterseals client story, which can be found online at Easterseals.com/NH). You need the full attention of your co-workers. Continue voice mail or schedule to maintain team energy until the event. Heavily encourage team members to update online pledges. This will help validate all the hard work their doing while creating a friendly competition amongst the team. Post the top fundraisers on your Facebook page! Hold a special team meeting or hold a practice run for the runners on your team! Week Five: May 1 - May 5 BUILDING TEAM SPIRIT: ONE MONTH OUT One month out! Announce company-wide how team is doing (# on team, fundraising). Have you reached your goals yet? Create an incentive for members to raise x by x date, and name is entered to win x gift. Give extra event brochures to each team member. Encourage them to ask people to join them family member, friend, co-worker, or neighbor. Recruit walkers/runners/donors on Facebook! Determine a good meeting spot for your team on the day of the event. Discuss carpooling to Veteran s Park and maybe even a team dinner afterwards in downtown Manchester. Week Six: May 8 - May 12 ROUNDING THE BEND Check with key team members about meeting your goals. Plan one last organizational sweep. Members should be encouraged to enter pledges on-line for accuracy in keeping track of the team goal. Consider hosting another team fundraiser (basket raffle, selling jeans days, etc). Week Seven: May 15 May 19 THE HOME STRETCH Send last minute reminders , voice mail, memos, or flyers to all team members. Review details, finalize team meeting place, bring money to event, designate someone to take a team photo that day for the company newsletter. Remind all participants to bring their pledge money with them on June 1st and to have their pledge form filled in with all the information requested. Pledges can be continuously updated on line. Ask for donations during the holiday! Week Eight+: May 28 - June 1 CONGRATULATIONS! YOU have made a difference in the lives of people with disabilities! Send a press release with your team photo to your company e-newsletter and the local paper. Send thank you notes to your team members. Post a thank you note on your Facebook page and remind folks of the event date! Collect and forward to Easterseals any contributions (and pledge forms) not handed in on June 1st. Late contributions will be added to a member s prize incentive totals until August 1 st.
