3 Race Day Location (Click on map image for link to Google maps) Edge Hill University is located on St Helens Road in Ormskirk. Travelling by road, leave M6 at junction 26 and join M58. Leave M58 at junction 3, taking the A570 towards Southport and Ormskirk. You should see signs for 'Edge Hill University' when you leave the motorway. From junction 3 the journey is 2.8 miles and takes approximately 5 minutes. The campus can also be reached from Preston or Liverpool via the A59. For satellite navigation you can use the postcode L39 4QP but please check that the route provided arrives via the main entrance on St Helens Road. 4 Car Park and Venue Layout Please use the main car park as illustrated in the diagram below Saturday Registration Registration will be available on Saturday 27 th August from 13:00 to 17:00 at Edge Hill Sports Centre. To register you will need to show a personal photo ID or a valid BTF Membership Card/Race Licence (NOTE: if you have no valid BTF Licence at registration and have registered for the event as a BTF member you will be charged the 5 fee for a day license). 5 Course Details Swim The 400m swim will take place in the indoor pool at Edge Hill Sport and will consist of SIXTEEN LENGTHS of the pool. Swimmers will start at 30 second intervals so please refer to the start list, which will be ed to you prior to the event to include your swim start time. Please report to poolside no less than 15minutes before your start time. If you miss your allocated slot then you will not be able to start and unfortunately it will be race over. Cycle (click the image for an interactive map) Remember when collecting your bike from T1 you MUST have your helmet fastened BEFORE touching your bike. The bike mount line will be clearly marked at the exit of transition, please ensure you mount your bike AFTER the line. There will be a 2min penalty if you mount before the line and riding inside the transition area itself will lead to disqualification. The course exits the University campus onto St Helens Road, after 1.4km you begin the first of THREE laps around Whiteley s Lane, Wigan Road, School Lane and Vicarage Lane (see map). After you have completed THREE LAPS turn right onto Ruff Lane and back towards campus. The West Lancs Triathlon is a NON- DRAFTING event, there will be a 2min penalty for those observed drafting and if disqualification if you persist. 6 Run (click the image for an interactive map) The run course is flat and fast and follows, in part, the purpose built running and conditioning trail added to Edge Hill Sport as part of the 25m million new sports centre project. The surface is an even mix of tarmac and gravel with the final 500m to the finish on the brand new running track. The course will be fully signposted and marshalled with a drinks station available at the run start and after approx 2.5k. West Lancs Summer Triathlon Race Pack 2016 Page 6 of 10

7 Race Day and General Instructions Registration Saturday 27 th August 13:00-17:00 or Emergency Registration on Sunday 28 th August 06:00-09:30 n.b. if you cannot register on Saturday please attend Sunday registration at least 60-90mins before your start time. If you have registered on Saturday its is recommended you arrive 60mins before your start time to allow sufficient time to rack your bike and leave kit in the transition area before attending the mandatory race brief on the poolside n.b. you must be in your kit ready to swim at the race briefing. At registration you will be asked to provide proof of ID or BTF membership if applicable. You will receive the following: 1 x Race Number to be attached your BACK on the bike and your FRONT on the run (Race belts are recommended and can be purchased at registration) Race Number sticker for bike Vital Events coloured swim cap - these must be worn during the swim in the pool Race Timing Chip this must be attached to your left ankle and worn throughout the race (attachment anywhere else will jeopardise an accurate race time) Insurance and BTF Licences Transition Area PLEASE TRY TO AVOID WALKING ON OR NEAR TIMING MATS BEFORE YOU START YOUR RACE AS THIS MAY AFFECT YOUR RESULT It is important that your chip is returned to the marshal at the finish line. If your chip is lost or not handed in at the end of the race you will be charged 25 for a replacement. Your entry fee includes 3 rd Party insurance cover provided by BTF. If you're not a BTF member you will automatically qualify for a day licence, which will provide your insurance cover. We do not allow anyone to race without insurance. We do not allow transfers of entry as this invalidates insurance. If you entered as a BTF member and a valid BTF license is NOT produced at registration a Race Day License will be issued at a cost of 5.00 there will be no exceptions. Transition will open from 06:00 on Sunday Before entering the transition area please attach your Race Number sticker to your bike. The marshal at the entrance to transition will check the Race Number on your race belt matches the number on your bike. Only entrants with a visible and corresponding Race Number on their bike will be allowed access to the transition area. Do not enter transition without permission from a Marshal and do not ride in transition. No family or friends will be allowed in transition. The use of mobile phones and MP3 players is NOT PERMITTED in the transition area. West Lancs Summer Triathlon Race Pack 2016 Page 7 of 10

8 Race Briefing Medics & First Aid Hydration Failure to finish MP3 / Phones Nudity Your position in transition is identified by numbered stickers on the racking, which will match your Race Number. Make a note of your position in transition and also note the positions of the entrance and exit points. Rack your bike in your numbered event position using the handlebars or saddle to balance your bike. During the event you need to take care and pay attention in the transition area. Always keep a keen eye out for other competitors and if the weather is wet or inclement please take your time and slow down! You must put on and fasten your helmet before un-racking your bike you must not mount your bike until you have crossed the Bike Mount line. On re-entering transition you must dismount your bike before crossing the Dismount line and must not unfasten your helmet until you have racked your bike. There must be no nudity in transition you must wear appropriate clothing so as to avoid a full change of clothes. These are British Triathlon rules and will be closely monitored in and around the Transition area by marshals and British Triathlon officials in attendance. PLEASE NOTE the new British Triathlon rules with the major changes being NO BOXES allowed to be left in the transition area and the DRAFT ZONE is now 10metres. All entrants must report to poolside 15mins before your start time PLEASE NOTE IF YOU INTEND TO WEAR FOOTWEAR FOR THE RUN FROM SWIM EXIT TO TRANSITION YOU MUST LEAVE THIS AT SWIM EXIT PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE SWIM BRIEF IF YOU BRING FOOTWEAR TO THE POOL YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE IT FOR THE RUN TO TRANSITION BUT WILL HAVE TO LEAVE IT AT THE POOL AND COLLECT IT AFTER THE EVENT IS COMPLETED (n.b. swim exit is to the right of the sports centre as you walk towards it from the car park) The Race Briefing is mandatory and will be held by the swim start area starting at approximately 07:15 and ongoing throughout the day as athletes approach the swim start, it will include important information from the race referee and any last minute changes. It is there to ensure your health and safety and that of the marshals, officials and spectators. Fully staffed ambulance crews will be in attendance on race day with a First Aid Unit and a mobile Ambulance Unit. You should not take part in the event if you have been feeling unwell. If you feel unwell during the event it is important that you stop racing and inform an event official so that medical staff can attend. Do not ignore warning signs such as chest pains, dizziness, headaches, nausea, diarrhea or other forms of distress. If you have an existing medical condition you should check with your doctor that you are able to take part. If you are able to enter, ensure that full details of your condition are written on the reverse of both of your event numbers in case of an emergency ensuring you include all information such as current medication. Fluids lost in sweat must be replaced. There is a drink station at the start of the run course. However, it is your responsibility to take on fluids as necessary. It is also not advisable to drink alcohol the night before alcohol can have a serious impact on hydration. If you withdraw from the event at any stage before the finish you must inform the officials at Registration or the Finish Area. This will allow us to account for all entrants. MP3 players, ipods, mobile phones, etc. are NOT PERMITTED on the course or in the transition area during the event in accordance with British Triathlon rules. In accordance with British Triathlon rules nudity is not permitted at any point West Lancs Summer Triathlon Race Pack 2016 Page 8 of 10

9 during the event. This includes changing at transition and being topless at any stage during the bike or run. Photos BTF Race Rules Results, Winners and Prizes Spectators Lost Property Changing and lockers Race photographs will be taken on the day by Mick Hall and his team and will be available to view post event here Please be aware that all images will be published online, if you prefer your pictures not to be published please make us aware as soon as possible. Images will be available for purchase after the event remember to smile! The race will take place in accordance with the British Triathlon Federation Rules. These are available via the following link. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with them via the link: ons.pdf The rules must be abided by at all times. They are in place for the safety and enjoyment of all competitors, spectators, marshals and officials. Results will be available real time on a large TV screen at the finish and will be sent via SMS if you provided a mobile number at the point of entry. Winners will be announced at the Prize Presentation near to the Finish Area at approx 1230hrs after most if not all competitors have finished the event. Prizes will be awarded for both male and female athletes by age group (n.b. athletes must be present to claim Prizes) Any prizes not collected on the day will be donated to junior members of local clubs. A provisional listing of the full results will be posted on the Vital Events website to which competitors will have 72 hours from the time of its posting to raise any queries. Spectators are welcome to come along and watch the event and support the entrants. But please be mindful of the competitors whilst racing and where necessary step out of the way of oncoming triathletes. Please don t be offended if asked to move and try to avoid congregating around the transition area. Please be aware that Edge Hill University operate a NO DOGS policy on the University Campus.
