2 RACE INFORMATION NOTE: YOU CAN REGISTER ON SATURDAY FROM 3pm to 5pm ON THE FIELD IN THE RED TENT. IT WILL SAVE YOU HAVING TO Q ON RACE DAY (remember to bring your BTF race licence if you have one). This event is part of the 'Kidstri' series of events during 2018 in the Sussex area. To qualify to win the age group (m /f) competitors need to complete 3 out of the 5 events. Date: Sunday 20 th May 2018 VENUE: Kings Leisure Centre and King Georges field. Address: Moat Road, E Grinstead, W Sussex, RH19 3LN Swim in the Kings LC 25m pool, Transition, cycle and run on the grass in sports field. EVENT TIMETABLE (Approx.) 3 ARRIVAL Please DO NOT PARK at the leisure centre. Please use one of the public car parks nearby they are all within easy reach. Web MAP HERE REGISTRATION This will be IN THE PAVILLION TO THE REAR OF THE LEISURE CENTRE- FOLLOW SIGNS, priority to the Youth, TS3, TS2 competitors, as they will be starting first. Please bring the printed Race Ticket we will the link to you 5 days before the event. (see race info webpage for more details) Each competitor will receive a race pack containing: INFORMATION -PLEASE READ Race number, to be worn on the FRONT of the running/cycling top. If you are wearing a race number belt your number should be shown on the back for the cycle, front for the run. Coloured wrist band to wear during the event- this shows us which event you are entered in. Triathlon England Day Race Licence will be ed out to you the Friday before. (Please ensure the licence is bought along to show OR pay for Day Licence no license pay 1.) Numbered labels for the Cycle and Helmet.(these must be attached before gaining entry to transition) Numbered bag for used swim kit. Race timing CHIP, attach to LEFT ankle- PLEASE DO NOT LOOSE! Next You will be 'Body marked' with your race number on your upper RIGHT ARM and LEFT CALF at the rostrum area. CHILD WELFARE If you do not wish to have pictures used in publicity of the event, please obtain GOLD No Pictures wristband to be worn by the competitor. 4 PHOTOS label in race pack(2) must be worn by parents WELFARE officer (Jacqui) is wearing a labelled RED hi-vis jacket, if you have any issues please speak to her. Children changing into their swim kit are parent/ guardian responsibility; the changing village is a public area please ensure your child changes safely. NON-RACING ENTRANCE Ensure you are body marked before entering. Labels attached, and helmet fastened to head approach non-racing entrance of transition Cycle helmet check/ Cycle brake check. (Please ensure you have it fastened on the triathlete) Please no mobile phones or MP3 players. RACKING CYCLES- All Novice 1, 2 & TS1 competitors please LAY DOWN your cycle correctly at your numbered white peg. (Saddle in line with peg.) Tristar 2, 3 and Youth, use the cycle racking, ALL racking is numbered please place correctly even numbers one side, odd numbers the other as indicated. Handle bars on numbered side. PLEASE NOTE AFTER 10.15am ONLY ONE ADULT (no siblings) IS ALLOWED IN TO TRANSITION WITH THE COMPETITOR. COURSE warm up On arrival, there will be an opportunity to WALK around the course until 10.05am. RACE BRIEFING 09.50hrs (Youth / TS3 / TS2) 11.00hrs (TS1 / Nov 2 / Nov1 ) This will be held down next to the cycle transition area, all to attend. We will need the Youth and TS3 competitors to be changed before the briefing so we can get started straight after. The same goes for the second briefing please- TS1 be changed and ready before brief.. We will call the different races (by colour wrist band) to the rostrum and a Hedgehogtri Team member will escort them to the pool. Important to keep warm! 5 SWIM SECTION The children will be divided into groups of their colour start (colour of wrist band) and will start individually. Races over 50m will be a 'Snake swim' (swim l/h/s of lane up and down then move down a lane and so on, diagram below... VIDEO DEMO ON THIS LINK Competitors start 25-30seconds apart following Go. Only Front Crawl or Breaststroke (no backstroke) No diving or jumping in. Keep to the RIGHT in the lane, do not swim down the middle. If toes are touched, at the end of the length STOP then let them pass, then continue. You must touch the wall at each end of the pool. 6 Swim >TRANSITION Exit pool and walk to the laid out kit. Appropriate running SHOES TO BE WORN IN ALL CASES. Put on shoes (laces tied), T-shirt (with number on front or race belt) over the top of swimwear. Must be worn on exit from the pool if not wearing trisuit. If you have Cycle shoes please leave them next to the cycle and change footwear on reaching transition. PLACE ALL REMAINING kit in bag and drop by the exit door, run to cycle transition. CARE: run around the playground area along the path on to the field. follow marked course to enter the cycle transition via 'SWIM IN' CYCLE SECTION On reaching your cycle: FIRST put on your cycle Helmet On foot (not ride) to the 'Bike Out' and mount AFTER the marked line. Cycle the correct number of laps. (competitor/parent to count), now in CLOCKWISE DIRECTION Each cycle lap is 665m Dismount BEFORE the marked line. Run/walk with cycle to your marked area. Lay down/ rack cycle and remove cycle helmet. 7 RUN SECTION Each lap is 600m- that is an 'Out and Back'= 600m = 1 lap On leaving the transition area take a wrist band. Collect a wrist band each time you start a lap. So bands collected equal the number of laps completed. (this will be dependant on the volunteer help available on the day) On completion of correct number of laps take route to the finish line. FINISH The finish awaits. The medals will be given out after each race is completed. Ankle timing CHIP returned before the finish area exit. The Tristar/Youth prizes to the Tristar 1,2,3 and Youth categories 1st, 2nd, 3rd, boy and girl. Results are Interim and on Weds. Midday will be declared final results CHILD WELFARE Any medical conditions or issues please seek out our Welfare Officer. Please note the changing facilities in the centre are open for public use so ensure you monitor your young person using these facilities. NO PICTURES wrist bands are available to be worn by the competitor if you wish. No individual photograph will be used of any person wearing this band. Abusive or over enthusiastic encouragement of any child must be reported to the Welfare Officer, who will speak with the Race Official & Race Director. 8 TIMING Times are taken manually at Start of Swim, (following that the ankle CHIP triggers the timing equipment on passing), End of Swim (entrance to transition), Start of Bike, End of bike, Start Run, Finish (manual time also taken). There will also be a Cycle LAP counter TAG point to check cycle laps completed. PARENTS AND OTHER SPECTATORS Mum and dad, just a quick word on your roll on the day. All spectators must stay in the taped area and not enter any part of the course, including poolside. This is the young triathlete s event and supported by you with verbal encouragement they will get around the marked course and feel that they have achieved competing against the clock and earned their medal. Please read our CODE OF CONDUCT PLEASE DO NOT RUN ALONGSIDE THE RUN COURSE If you do so then time will be added to the finish time Pictures/ Video : If you are using a camera you MUST be wearing a PHOTOS label ( in the registration pack) Any withdrawal from the race MUST be notified to the Race Director or Timekeeper (based at the finish) RACE RULES A couple of things to point out: Shoes must be worn around the course at all times. Tri Bars on a grass triathlon course are not allowed to be fitted to a cycle, so please remove before the race. No Drafting around the cycle course or running together. RESULTS There will be interim results available after the last competitor has crossed the line, these will be to determine the prize medal winners. The full interim results will be posted on the registration wall after each race, then on the website for 7pm. Any issues are to be raised with the race organiser ASAP. On the following Wednesday, the results will be declared final. There will be a check on the number of laps completed; if course has been cut short then the competitor will not show in the placings of the race. 9 Please make sure the competitor knows how many laps of each section, they need to complete, write it on their hand, put tape strips on the bike handlebars (take one of for each lap completed) etc. OFFICIAL PHTOGRAPHY Ginger Images Kirk and Faith will be present taking pictures of competitors around the course. These are held on a secure sever, link will be supplied to all competitor parents as soon after the event as possible. TOILETS & CHANGING These will be in the Leisure Centre FIRST AID Supplied by 1st aid qualified persons WANT Medical and will be positioned in the field next to the cycle transition area. CATERING Inside the Leisure Centre Coops Coffee on site for coffee / tea/ snacks. PUBLIC ADDRESS Music and commentary by John through the event will start at 10am, please listen out for announcements that may affect the race, we will try and give you a name check around the course. WEATHER / CONDITIONS The race organiser will take decisions prior to the start, on the day, to ensure the safety of competitors. If the weather is to wet, then this might mean a shortened cycle course or a change of event to a Swim/Run. COLLECTING CYCLES / SWIM KIT AFTER RACE Some of you may wish to leave before the completion of the event. Whilst the race is on ONLY competitors are allowed in the cycle transition area. Competitors go to the Transition Manager at the non-racing entrance who will, when safe to do so, allow the child in to collect equipment. A check is carried out to ensure the numbers on the cycle and helmet match that on your child. SWIM KIT NUMBERED BAG Collect from designated area (at SWIM OUT), we will try to put in some sort of numbered order (dependant on number of helpers). VOLUNTEERS The event is run with the help of volunteers to help direct children around the course. 10 CHARITY RAFFLE A new children s road cycle will be up for grabs in out raffle. Tickets are 2 each or a strip of 5 for The draw will be at the end of the event, if the winner is present then they will also receive a new cycle helmet.
