Points gained in higher age groups will not go towards age group champions. A Perpetual trophy is awarded to the school scoring the highest number of points.

Track & Field is conducted under the rules of Athletics Australia unless otherwise stated. Ages are calculated as at December 31, in the year of competition. Competitors may compete in only one age group for which they are eligible. Competitors may compete in a higher age group than their own provided they only compete in one age group for all of their individual events. The age group an athlete competes in at Division level cannot be changed when competing at higher levels of competition. Competitors are able to compete in a higher age group for the formation of relay teams, not withstanding that a competitor only competes in one age group for that relay event. Secondary competitors may compete in not more than FIVE individual events, excluding the Relay event a total of 6 events.

3 Entries: Relay Teams: Athletes with a Disability: Dress: Adverse Weather: Lateness Penalty: First Aid: Valuables: Starts: Field Events: Each School may enter one competitor in 100m, 200m, 400m events, two competitors in field events and three competitors in 800m run/walk and 1500m events. Changes to entries will be accepted on the day, however please aim for minimal changes. Where a Year 11 or Year 12 student will automatically qualify at Division level, they will be allowed to progress to the Region Final without needing to compete. (by direct entry) The four members of each relay team must be students at the same school. Events for athletes with a disability will be conducted in 100m, 200m, Long Jump and Shot Put. AWD events will be conducted using the multi disability format for both boys and girls: Intellectual Disability, Ambulant and Wheel Chair. An athlete is not eligible to compete in the AWD and able bodied event of the same discipline. Students must hold a current classification. It is recommended that competitors wear their school athletics tops and shorts. Tracksuit bottoms will not be accepted dress in track events and jeans are not appropriate for field events. The track is not suitable for bare feet. All competitors must wear suitable footwear. Track shoes or spikes should be worn. Spikes must be no longer than 9mm. Competitors not correctly dressed will not be permitted to compete. The Convener must do all that is possible to complete all events. He/she has the power to alter any conditions that may be necessary to achieve this. If a competitor is late for the start of their event for reasons beyond their control and they communicate this information to the convener beforehand, the convener will try to accommodate the competitor as best he/she can. Track event starting times are published and will not be altered for late competitors. If a competitor has notified the convener of their lateness, they may enter a field event provided that the event has not been totally completed. For high jump the bar will not be lowered and the competitor must enter the event at the current bar height. A trained first aid official will be available, however it is also suggested that schools provide their own first aid; including instant ice packs for minor incidents. Valuables are to be left with teachers or parents. Do not leave valuables in bags. Do not leave any property unattended during the day. In track events up to and including 400 metres a crouch start should be used. This includes Hurdle events. The use of starting blocks is not compulsory, but they will be provided. For events over 400 metres in length a standing start may be used. In all field events, except High Jump, three rounds of competition will be held. In all field events, other than High Jump, where two or more competitors have the same best trial, their second best trials will be compared to determine the winner. If still equal, the third best trials are compared.

4 Marshalling: Clashes of Events: Protests: Equipment: Relay Batons: Presentations: Greater Western Region Final: Track competitors must report to the marshal at least fifteen minutes prior to the commencement of their event. Track events take priority over field events and it is the responsibility of the competitor to report to the field event official prior to competing in a track event. Program times are an estimate only. If possible, track events will run ahead of advertised times but at no time will they be more than fifteen minutes ahead. Field events will run according to the advertised times. Field competitors must report to their event site at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the event. Competitors should be aware that the scheduled times printed in the program are approximate and subject to change. Appropriate announcements will be made concerning any substantial alterations. Where a clash of a track event and a field event occurs, a competitor must report to the field event official first and, if time permits, take one or more trials. The competitor must then marshal for his/her track event and return to the field event immediately after the track event and complete his/her three trials. The three trials must be completed within the time allocated to the event. If a competitor reports more than fifteen minutes late for a field event then the competitor will only be permitted to take one trial. Where a clash occurs between a track event and a high jump event the competitor must report to the high jump event prior to marshalling for his/her track event. The competitor must return to the high jump as quickly as possible after the track event. The high jump event will continue in their absence. The competitor must continue at the new height when he/she returns. The bar will not be lowered. Protests must be made with the appropriate Track or Field Referee within 10 minutes of the conclusion of the event. Field event competitors must use the throwing equipment provided. There is not provision for competitors to use their own shots, discuses or javelins. Relay batons will be provided. Immediately after each event, the first 3 placegetters must report to the victory dais for presentation of ribbons. The first place getter in all events will progress to the Greater Western Region Track & Field Final, as well as the second place competitor in the 3000m, 1500m and 1500m Walk events. Eureka Division Requirements: 1. Each school is to provide Team Managers as well as the required number of Officials (See Officials Sheet). It is essential for some jobs, that schools also provide students to assist the staff members. In roles that require student management, the preference is for teachers to perform the duty. However, it is appropriate to use reliable senior students in certain capacities. It is the responsibility of each school to ensure department guidelines are met with regard to correct student/teacher ratios for athletic activities. 2. A copy of this year s program will be posted on the School Sport Victoria website ( once competitors have been added and records updated. 3. Please Note: Boys and Girls are combined for 1500m Walks and 1500m events. 4. Officials are asked to report to the Administration building at least 15 minutes before the first event ie: no later than 9:30 am. Please inform your staff/student helpers of this so the Carnival can start on time.

5 5. School staff officials will be provided with a salad roll and drink for lunch. If you have students helpers, please ensure they provide their own lunch and drink. 6. Students must not be inside the arena unless they are competing. They should access the shot put, javelin and discus via the outside paths. Please ask Team Managers to reinforce this request and to assist in removing spectators from inside the fence near the grandstands. 7. The first 3 competitors in field events should report to the administration building to deliver paper work and collect their ribbons. Track competitors MUST wait in their lanes (laned events) immediately after the race finishes for the judges to give out the place tags. Competitors in the middle distance events are to file to the recording table in the order of completion. The race recorder will then complete paperwork for the first 4 competitors to take to the administration building. Ribbons will be presented immediately after each track event. 8. Only the first relay runner needs to report to the starters marshal, the others should report directly to their stations. 9. Schools are encouraged to bring along a small group of reliable students to help in the event of staff shortages. Most student officials will be supplied by the host school.
