1 CONGRATULATIONS 2007 TELSTRA AUSTRALIAN MASTERS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS HOBART, TASMANIA On behalf of the AMA Board, I congratulate and thank the local organizing committee of Tasmanian Masters Athletics for the excellent meet conducted for the 2007 national championships in Hobart. Well over 400 competitors entered, many of whom were competing in multiple events finding the stamina and energy to do this is a testament to their ability and endurance. We thank the officials, administrators and volunteers for committing their time and energy during the Easter break to ensuring these championships were well organized and well run. Congratulations to all athletes too for the fine performances and the many records broken during this meet. The continued support of Telstra and ASICS is acknowledged and appreciated. Hobart was at its best with fine and sunny autumn weather each day and the river and city views from the Domain were spectacular. A change of pace saw 200 attend the dinner dance on Sunday evening where good food and good music was enjoyed. The highlight of the evening was the AMA Award presentations in acknowledgement of the outstanding achievements of our athletes and administrators for the current season. The category winners were Sprints/Hurdles Peter Crombie M60 NSW Middle Distance Norm Pearce M80 QLD Distance Theresia Baird W65 VIC Walks Andrew Jamieson M60 VIC Jumps Irie Hill W35 VIC Throws Stuart Gyngell M40 NSW Multi Events Julie Brims W40 QLD Most Outstanding Individual Performance Robin Whyte M60 ACT Most Outstanding Male Athlete Hugh Coogan M70 QLD Most Outstanding Female Athlete Marie Kay W45 QLD Administrator/Official of the Year Frank Rogers SA Once again our thanks go to ASICS for their generous sponsorship of shoe vouchers for each winner. Attendees at the coaching forum were entertained by long-time Tasmania coach Max Cherry where they gained useful tips for maximizing their performances. Those attending the athletes forum were able to put forward their ideas relating to general administration issues and aspects of championship programming and organization for consideration by the Board. Tasmania has again set a high standard of organization and programming for our national championships. Next year it will be the turn of New South Wales Masters to host this great annual event. In the meantime, our athletes will continue training for world competition in Riccione, Italy in September and the Indoors championships in March We wish them well in their endeavours. For those athletes not traveling overseas, we look forward to meeting up again in Sydney next Easter. Best wishes for continued good health and strong performances.
