1 Moray & Highland Junior Championships Event Details Saturday 9 th June 2018 BASOC are delighted to welcome you to the Moray and Highland Junior Championships at Anagach West, Grantown on Spey. Anagach is a very pretty birch and pine wood with interesting contour features and a well-used path system, which skirts around wooded marshy areas. There are 7 courses available; competitors can run any course, but medals will only be awarded within the age category (unless running up ) stated for the course colour. Please respect other users of the forest as the paths are popular with walkers (with & without dogs) and mountain bikers. 2 Directions / Parking The Event Centre is at the Grantown Primary School in Grantown on Spey. From Inverness: via the A9 and A938 to Carrbridge and Dulnain Bridge. Then A95 to Grantown on Spey, and continue into the town along the B9102. From the A96 (Nairn/Forres): A939 or A940/A939 to Grantown on Spey, and then the B9102 through the town. Event will be signed from the B9102/Forest Road junction, opposite the Co-op. Parking for cars is in the school playground, surrounding streets, or car park behind The Court House (5 mins walk). Coaches, mini-buses etc. are advised to park in the car park behind the Court House. If parking on the street please show consideration for local residents. Pre Event Info See course and other info below. Other users Anagach Wood is used by the local public including dog-walkers and cyclists. Please respect all other users and adhere to the Scottish Outdoor Access Code (SOAC). Dress Full torso and leg covering is recommended due to the presence of ticks throughout the area. Please check for, and remove, any ticks after you run. The wood is sheltered but if the weather is wet competitors should wear/carry appropriate wet-weather clothing. The Start and Finish are adjacent; there will be black bags in which to leave clothing for your own collection once you have finished your run. Whistles All competitors should carry a whistle. These will be available at Registration. Whistles should only be used in case of a real emergency. Refreshments We are unlikely to be able to offer refreshments at the Primary School, but there are lots of options for take-away food, ice-creams, drinks and cafes in the town, a short walk away. Registration, Start & Finish Registration is at the Primary School from 10:30-12:00 for EOD, dibber hire and collection of White & Yellow maps. Start Starts: 11:00-12:30 Punching starts for all - no pre allocated start times. 2

3 There is one Start for all competitors. This is approximately 15 minutes walk from the Event Centre. Please follow the tapes to the Start. The walk to the Start begins along the side of a minor road (with pavement) with a 30 mph speed limit, and no road-crossing required. Latterly, the route continues along Forest Road which leads only down to the Forest car parks and a few residential properties; it has no pavement, and only light, slow-moving traffic. Please walk at the side of the road, and stay aware of moving vehicles. Adults in charge please stress this to junior runners. The last part of the route is on forest paths. School Groups A responsible adult should accompany all competitors to the START and from the FINISH. The START and FINISH are adjacent, and in a clearing, so there is room at the Finish for competitors to wait for other club/group runners. Championship placings will be for any junior under the age stated for the course e.g. a 13-yr old can be placed in any of Orange, Long Orange, Light Green, Green or Blue. If a 13-yr old wants to run yellow they will not be eligible for medals but will appear in the results list as normal. Note - the age category is based on age at the end of this year ie: 10 and Under M/W and Under M/W and Under M/W and Under M/W 16 Explanation of colour courses (Show) 3

4 Entry Details Enter online at SIEntries. Please enter in advance (entries close Wednesday 6 th June 2018)! This is a big help. There will be entry on the day subject to available maps (plus 1). Adult member 6; junior member 3. Adult non-member 7; junior non-member 4. If any schools wish to block enter please contact us directly - secretary@basoc.org.uk by Tuesday 6 th June at the latest. Hired timing chips (Si-Cards, dibbers) We provide a free loan of these if you don't have your own, but if you lose it there will be a 30 charge for a replacement. Terrain Description & Map Mainly pine and birch woodland with some marshy areas, and a good path network. Anagach Wood is close to the River Spey in places; this is a fast- flowing river and competitors should not approach the river banks. Our thanks to INVOC for use of the map, which was funded with the generous assistance of the Berry Burn Community Fund. Map scale 1: with 5m contour intervals. First Aid A club member qualified in First Aid will be available at the event. There is no out of hours medical assistance locally; in the first instance call NHS24 (111) for advice, or 999 in emergency. Raigmore hospital has the closest Accident and Emergency unit. Insurance Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events and not joined an orienteering club that is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance. 4

5 Medical Conditions You have the option of downloading and completing this Medical form. It could be life- saving if the organisers are aware of any existing medical conditions in the event of an incident. You can leave it at registration/enquires in a sealed envelope that will only be opened if required and destroyed after the event.
