2 Transportation to Event Centre 25 Dec 2016 Middle Distance Event Centre is located at the mini-football ground in Lam Tin Park. There is no tack shop and no refreshment at the Event Centre. You can go to the event centre by MTR, bus or minibus: MTR Lam Tin Station Bus 16, 214, 215X, 216M, 603, E22X Minibus 24, 76A Warm-up Map (restricted pass the X) Event Center Layout 26 Dec 2016 Sprint The event centre is located in the basketball court at the platform on the east side of Fung Shing Street in Ngau Chi Wan Park. (see the map below) Competitors should ONLY arrive at the event centre from southeast of Fung Shing Street. 2

You can go to the Event Centre by Bus. Bus 51 (Tsuen Wan West Railway Station Sheung Tsuen) Get off at Country Park station, and there is 300m walk to the Event Centre. There are a few public parking lots near event centre. Do not enter the competition area before competing. To avoid venturing into the competition area, please follow the designated route marked by our signs to the event centre at all times. 4

5 Map and courses Maps are drawn to the International Specification for Orienteering Maps (ISOM2000) and the International Specification for Sprint Orienteering Maps (ISSOM2007). The maps will be coated by plastic and no separated plastic bags will be provided. 6 Start The Start will be 1000m from the Event Center with climbing 60m. It will take around a 20 minutes walk. Please follow the signage and the instruction of event officials while crossing some path junctions. On the way to start, competitors will pass through quarantine zone and it is possible to drop off clothes or drinks etc. to be picked up afterwards. (Remember you must stay in quarantine zone after finish your race!) Please make sure you have marked down your names on your clothes or drinks. There is a Toilet on the way to start, competitors could use it for changing clothes that can be brought to Quarantine Zone before going to Start. Competitor info, start list and the official time will be available at Event Center and Start area. Competitors will be called upon to enter the start area 3 minutes before the start time. The box time will be displayed at the entrance of the start box. Control description will be issued in the 2-minute box. Maps will be issued at the 1-minute box. The start point will be 30m from the starting line. Late competitors must report to the Start call-up. The competitor will be allowed to proceed to the start line, accompanied where possible by a Late Start Official. The start interval will be 2 minutes for WRE and 1 minute for AOC. The start draws of WRE will be made according to the IOF Competition Rules. Start Clock 30m to Start -1 min. (check map) -2 min. (description) -3 min. (check-in) Check-in Clock ME/MO WE/WO Finish, Result, Quarantine The finish time will be measured when the competitor punches at the finish line. After that, WRE runners must enter the Quarantine Zone which is behind Finish until There is a Toilet for changing the clothes that can be brought to Quarantine Zone before going to Start. After 1200, WRE runners will be allowed to go back to Event Center and they should not show the map to runners that haven t started their race yet. (AOC Open class runners). 6

7 Arena Location and Embargo Area All competition area has been under a full embargo, and cannot be visited by potential competitors, team officials or other persons who may be in a position to give information to team members. Middle Distance - Black Hill Sprint - Ngau Chi Wan Park 7

8 Long Distance - Pak Shek Kiu Terrain Description Middle Distance Competition terrain mainly consists of large, steep hills with undulating covered by dense forests of poor passability. Some areas are consisting of semi-open areas and woodland. There are some thorny weeds inside the undergrowth. Numerous large paths of good runnability traverse the area. Competitors must wear clothing that fully covers their torso and legs. Sprint 1. Urban Park with forests of various degrees of runnability surrounded in the northern and southern parts. 2. These areas are connected with path network. Some minor paths will have loosen stepping stones. Most of the areas have good runnabilty and visibility. 3. Some broken fences will not show in map. 4. Some minor water courses will not show in the map. 5. Shoes with metal studs are not allowed for the competition. 6. Some special feature will show in map o Arch; x recreational / playground facilities; x drinking facilities provided by park and + grave. 7. No water refreshment. 8

9 Long Distance 1. Some small tracks made by cows should not be shown on the map. 2. The terrain are mainly forest areas with medium and high runnability but with bushes; whilst in some areas the vegetation is thicker. It is quite steep in some area, and is even stoney, please be careful when passing through. 3. There are some fallen trees and trunks on the ground, please don't use them as anchor to avoid danger. 4, There are spikes on vegetation; competitors are advised to wear jersey with long sleeves and gaiters to avoid being cut. 5. There are some deep pits in the terrain. Please be cautious. 6. There will be hikers in the terrain, please avoid collision with other hikers; also, there may be mountain bikers using some path, please watch out. 7. There are some stray cattle in the terrain, please do not scare them. 8. There is a paved road in the terrain with restricted access, therefore there may be occasional traffic, competitors should watch out. 9. There are some "Road closed" signage erected by AFCD in the terrain, which provide advice to hikers; orienteering competitors should make their own route choice and decide where to enter such path. 10. In the terrain, there are some fallen tree trunks, please be careful. Competition Rules and Details The Competition Rules for IOF Foot Orienteering Events (valid from 1 January 2016) and The OAHK Orienteering Competition by-law shall apply. IOF Competition Rules on the IOF website: OAHK Orienteering Competition by-law on the OAHK website: Bibs All competitors must wear their respective number bibs at all competitions. The bibs will be available at the arena. Competitors must wear their bibs on the front. The bibs must be visible in their entirety; they shall not be folded over or cut down. 9

10 Clothing and Equipment Restriction For the middle and long distances the competitors must wear clothing that fully covers torso and legs. Short-sleeved shirts are allowed. No clothing restrictions for sprint. But wearing of clothing covers torso and legs is recommended. No spiked shoes allowed in the sprint. You must bring with yourself a compass, a whistle (except Sprint), your assigned SI card, number bib on your chest. Otherwise you are not allowed to start. All GPS devices with display screen are NOT ALLOWED. Punching SportIdent punching systems will be used for all the races - standard contact solution for all the races. The competitors will carry their own SI cards or rent from the Organiser. Each SI card is registered to a specific competitor and shall not be used by any other competitor. Timing In all competitions timing will be to 1 second and standard start procedure is to be used. Climate Hong Kong's climate is sub-tropical, tending towards temperate for nearly half the year. During November and December there are pleasant breezes, plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures. Many people regards these as the best months of the year.
