At Monster Denton, you will enjoy the beautiful indoor pool of the Denton Aquatic Center for a 250 yard swim; jump on your bike for 16 miles, and finish strong with a 3.1 mile run. 11 Know Your Race Courses It is the responsibility of each competitor to know the courses Bike Course is open to traffic but local police will direct traffic and the roads have a large shoulder to ride on. On the bike, remember to pass only on the left and ride to the right. Do not follow the bike in front of you and pay attention to the course signs. You may not remove your bike from the transition area until race officials determine it is safe. Run course is around the stadium parking area and Long Road. Dallas Athletes Racing will take every precaution to ensure the course is marked and turn marshals are present. Race Numbers will be provided in your packet, a bike number to be attached with twist ties and goes on the top tube of the bike, a helmet number to be placed on the front of your helmet and a running bib to be worn during your run on the front. Timing Chip Pick-Up Sprint triathlon participants should pick up their chips from our race timers at a table located just outside the transition area. Race Day Weather The race will be held rain or shine. Be prepared for all weather conditions. Please note Race officials may cancel, delay or change the race to a nonscored event in case of extreme weather or other conditions that may affect the safety and health of the participants. In the event of cancellation, no refunds will be issued. Restrooms Port-o-lets will be available near the transition area. Indoor restrooms facilities and locker rooms will be inside the Denton Natatorium. 12 Denton Monster Transition Area Notes: Transition and body marking will be open at 6:15 am and closes at 7:15 am. Place bike and other transition items in the appropriate spot according to the number on the end of the racks.
14 Denton Monster Swim Layout Notes: Swimmers will be staged by race number and lined up around the pool counter clockwise. Make sure to swim to one side of the lane to leave space for passing. If you do not finish the swim or choose not to start the race, please turn in your timing chip to a race official or volunteer. Athletes can move back in the swim line but absolutely no moving up in the swim line. In other words, "no cutting".

16 Denton Monster Bike Course Notes: The bike course is an out and back course starting at transition area at natatorium and going out on to FM428 where you will go the to the turn around point at Aubrey Middle School and return to transition via the same route.

18 Monster Run Course Notes: The run course starts at the transition area and goes down the hill around the stadium for 2 loops and then finishes up the hill to the transition area to the finish line. Signs and volunteers will be on the course.
19 USAT Most Common Violated Rules 1. Membership/Permit Requirements. All participants in sanctioned USAT events must be USAT members and present a valid annual membership card or purchase a USAT single event permit. 2. Age Group Competition: All age group athletes must compete in the age group corresponding to your age on December 31. Weight Class Division: If offered, Clydesdale (men) minimum weight is 220 pounds and Athena (women) is165 pounds. Participants are not eligible to compete in both a weight class and an age group at the same event. 3. Helmets: Only helmets approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may be used in USAT sanctioned events. Helmets must be worn at all times while on your bike. This means before, during, and after the event. Penalty: Disqualification 4. Chin Straps: Chin straps must be buckled at all times when on a bicycle. DO NOT unbuckle your chin strap unless you are off your bicycle. Penalty: Disqualification on the course; Variable time penalty in transition area only. 5. Outside Assistance: No assistance other than that offered by race and medical officials may be used. Triathlons are individual tests of fitness. Penalty: Variable time penalty 6. Abandonment: All personal equipment and belongings taken out onto the course must stay on the athlete the entire time. No garbage, clothing, etc. shall be thrown on the course. Penalty: Variable time penalty 7. Transition Area: All equipment must be placed in the properly designated and individually assigned bike corral. The wheel of the bicycle must be down on the side of the assigned space. All participants must return their bicycles to an upright position in their designated bicycle corral. No person shall interfere with another participant s equipment or impede the progress of another participant. All bar ends must be solidly plugged. No participant shall bring ANY glass containers into the transition area. Penalty: Variable time penalty 8. Drafting: Drafting--keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds. Position--keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing. Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass. Overtaken--once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again. Penalty: Variable time penalty 9. Entire Course: Participants must cover the prescribed course in its entirety. It is the participant s responsibility to know the course. Traffic Laws: All participants must obey all traffic laws while on the cycling course unless otherwise specifically directed by a USA Triathlon official, race monitor or designee with actual authority. Penalty: Disqualification/Variable time (Referee's discretion) 10. Audio Devices: Headphones, headsets, walkmans, ipods, mp3 players, or personal audio devices, etc. are not to be carried or worn at any time during the race. Cyclists may carry a cell phone for emergencies stored in a tool bag and in the off position. Participants who use a phone must step off the course and make no forward progress while on the phone. The use of a phone while walking or running shall result in a penalty. No phone may be used or carried if the device is capable of playing music. Phones may not be mounted on the handlebars Penalty: Variable time penalty
20 USAT Most Common Violated Rules (cont d) 11. Race numbers: All athletes are required to wear race numbers at all times during the run. Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not be cut or folded or altered in any way. DO NOT transfer your number to any other athlete or take a number from an athlete that is not competing. Penalty: Variable time penalty for missing or altered number, Disqualification and one year suspension from membership in USAT for transferring a number without race director permission. 11. Wetsuits: Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited. 12. Bottom Contact and Resting. A participant may stand on the bottom or rest by holding an inanimate object such as a buoy, boat, rope or floating object. Excluding the bottom, a participant shall not use any inanimate object to gain forward progress. 13. Unsportsmanlike-Like Conduct: Foul, harsh, argumentative or abusive language or other unsportsmanlike conduct directed at race officials, USA Triathlon officials, volunteers, spectators or fellow athletes is forbidden. 21 All Dallas Athletes Racing Triathlon Events are USAT Certified and Sponsored Races
