1 RIPLEY RACE RUN THE RACE, SUPPORT OUR VETERANS BenefiKng: E stablished in 2009, the Ripley Race is a 5K road race and 1 mile Fun Run to raise awareness and support for our men and women returning from war while also honoring the legacy of Col. John Ripley, USMC (Ret). The event features the best 5K course in the Mid-AtlanKc region, a backdrop of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, and a race course through the city of Annapolis, Maryland s historic state capital. 2 W e are excited to enter into our 8 th year with the Ripley Race! To date, we have raised over $320,000 from race parkcipakon and sponsors. Our event is rapidly growing into one of the largest 5K s in the mid-atlankc area with almost 1,500 race parkcipants in We are expeckng another record turnout this fall. Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund (IMSFF) remains as our sole beneficiary of the Ripley Race and we are honored and excited to be a part of this great cause. Since 2009 Ripley Race has raised over $320K for our veterans Started in 2005 by Karen Guenther, a nurse and spouse of a Marine Corps General Officer, the IMSFF was created to bridge an obvious gap in financial support for wounded veterans and their families. Several have been faced with challenges in adjuskng to life a`er suffering from their ailments, but through their dedicated efforts and determinakon, they have rebounded with strength and have very powerful stories to share. Our team at Turning Point Sports was honored to partner with the Ripley family and create this fantaskc event in The IMSFF is an $85 million non-profit organized to assist wounded veterans and their families. IMSFF has issued more than 67,000 grants since With the assistance of our Race OrganizaKon, Turning Point Sports, Ripley Race uklizes its own 501(c)(3), the Cincinnatus Fund Inc., in order to distribute donakons and race proceeds to the IMSFF. Although the Ripley Race is used primarily to raise money for the IMSFF, we also pay tribute the legacy of one of our nakons greatest heroes, Colonel John W. Ripley, USMC (Ret.). Colonel Ripley was a 1962 graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy and became a decorated Marine through his heroic ackons in the Vietnam War. Ripley at the Bridge, as detailed in a diorama at the Naval Academy s Memorial Hall, displays the ackons of Colonel Ripley, which later earned him the Navy Cross. While under intense unrelenkng enemy fire, Colonel Ripley dangled for an eskmated three hours under the bridge in order to ahach 500 pounds of explosives to the span, ulkmately obliterakng it. His ackons definikvely thwarted an onslaught by 20,000 enemy troops and dozens of tanks and was the subject of a book, The Bridge at Dong Ha. Colonel Ripley is the only Marine to ever be inducted into the Army Ranger Hall of Fame. His final tours of duty included being in charge of the NROTC units at the Virginia Military InsKtute and serving as the Senior Marine at the U.S. Naval Academy teaching English and History. The race encompasses the core values of the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. military of courage, integrity and teamwork, and gives tribute to a Marine who personified these core values. The Ripley Race has seen supported from the local Annapolis area, the greater MD region, and from other nakonal level sponsors. This event has grown from 500 parkcipants in 2009 to over 1,500 racers in We expect that our event parkcipakon can grow to over 2,000 racers in 2016.
