1 Our largest on-base Easter Event! Beale s 9th Force Support Squadron has some egg-citing events for you and your family this month. Children and adults alike love to celebrate Easter and this year the Community Center hosts their ever-popular Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, The Community Center hides nearly 3,000 eggs around and inside the facility for over 800 children participants with designated areas for different age groups. We also have an Easter Bunny mascot to take photographs with and fun giveaways for children to take home! Whether you run for a cause, to beat a personal best, or the challenge of pushing yourself across the finish line, then we hope you are prepared for a grueling 13.1 mile third annual Beale Half Marathon on April 24, Half Marathons, also known as a 21K, have been gaining popularity in recent years. One of the main reasons for this is that it is a challenging distance, but does not require the same level of training that a marathon requires. 3 The largest event of the year! As you visit Beale Air Force Base on 15 May, 2015, you may think that you have just stepped onto Bourbon Street during the Peak of Mardi Gras. Well, there may be a bit of a hyperbole here but there s no guessing that our venue will have been transformed into a slice of New Orleans. The Seafood and Jazz Festival is a celebration of authentic New Orleans Jazz and food. Our 2014 event was a big success with over 1100 guests visiting the Recce Point Club to sample different vendor dishes, wine samples, and refreshing beer. The live bands add the final flourish, enticing all attendees to linger late into the night. 4 Beale Air Force Base Mine-Con Mine-Con for Beale Kids! Mine-con at our Youth Center was a huge success for youth on base. This event had an attendance of over 500 participants was the first year that the Beale Mine-Con was held and we were very excited to see the popularity of the event and hope for similar results on the tentative date of 29 May, Attendees wil lbe able to participate in a Minecraft themed obstacle course, costume contest, art contest, crafts, and play the game against other competitors in the Youth Center computer lab. There will be a special appearance with one of the popular Minecraft characters with a photo opportunity. 5 Day For Kids! A great day for the whole family! Beale s Youth Center, in cooperation with the Airman & Family Readiness Center, host their annual Day for Kids festival, September 18th (subject to change) from 4:30-8:30pm at the Youth Center. This event is free for all in attendance and everyone is invited. The event will be filled with fun activities and learning experiences. The kids can release their energy playing a bounce house, rock wall, and dunking volunteers in our dunk tank. There will be games, crafts, food, live entertainment and more. 6 2015 Summer Reading Program Beale s Summer Reading Program (SRP) is one of the most highly anticipated programs for youth on base. This program boasts upwards of nearly 350 participants. Since the Library s reduced hours, we expect up to 275 participants. The Summer Reading Program starts at the Hub Zemke Library on 10 June, 2015 and ends on 10 August, Children ages 2-9 choose a prize for every 5 books they read. Children/teens ages 10 through those entering 12th grade choose a prize for every 250 pages they read; additionally, they place their name in the drawing box for a large prize at the end of the program. We rely on our sponsors to help us provide the prizes and the drawing prizes as well. We expect to award up to 600 prizes for the 2015 SRP Gold Sponsorship: $500 displayed in the Hub Zemke Library for up to five days prior to the grand prize drawing on 10 August, Verbal acknowledgement during the grand prize drawing event.
