2 The 2013 European Endurance Conference, hosted by British Athletics and England Athletics will take place on Saturday and Sunday the 9 and 10 November in Nottingham, England. This event, which forms part of European Athletics Coaching Summit Series, builds on the success of the British Athletics/England Athletics Coaching Masterclass programme. The event continues the exceptional coach development opportunities on offer in the UK with an impressive roll call of world class speakers including: Bud Baldaro, Jenni Banks, Neil Black, Neil Cronin, Tim Hutchings, Chris Jones, Tomasz Lewandowski, Nathan Lewis, Charlie Pedlar, Yannis Pitsiladis, Norman Poole, David Rowland and David Sunderland. The venue is the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham University, easily accessible from Britain and Europe by air, rail and car, with excellent facilities, and the onsite 4 Star Devere Hotel. 5 ABOUT THE SPEAKERS Bud Baldaro (UK) Bud Baldaro is one of the most respected coaches in Britain with a reputation built over the past 30 years. He has worked with athletes at all levels and across a wide range of ages his most successful track athletes include major championship medallist Hannah England and on the road Championship medallist and two time Chicago Marathon winner Marian Sutton and 2:09 marathon runner Tony Milosorov. Currently his coaching charges include, Hannah England, Hattie Dean, Luke Gunn and Hannah Walker. Bud is also National Coach Mentor for long endurance for England Athletics. Jenni Banks (Australia, based in UK) British Athletics Institute Coach Wheelchair Racing. Now based in Loughborough, England at the High Performance Centre for British Athletics, Jenni is widely regarded as one of the most successful Paralympic coaches in the world. Personal coach to five world number one wheelchair athletes including Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson and Hannah Cockroft, Banks has coached athletes to a total of 44 Paralympic, Olympic and World Championship medals, as well as 43 world records. Jenni also worked for the Australian Paralympic Committee for eight years as Director of Sport and High Performance Manager, including during the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Neil Black (UK) British Athletics Performance Director. Neil is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the World Class Performance Plan (Olympic and Paralympic) through setting the culture, creating the environment and working with people to deliver success. A Chartered Physiotherapist, Neil was previously Chief Physio and Sports Medicine and Science Lead. He has worked with athletics luminaries such as Sally Gunnell, Linford Christie, Colin Jackson, Tony Jarret, Roger Black, Iwan Thomas, Steve Smith, Jonathon Edwards, Katharine Merry, Kelly Holmes, Denise Lewis, Kelly Sotherton, Phillips Idowu, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Steve Backley, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah. Neil Cronin (UK, based in Finland) Assistant Professor of Biomechanics (University of Jyväskylä), Adjunct Professor of Exercise Physiology (University of Oulu). Neil is a researcher specializing in the fields of neural control and muscle-tendon mechanics, primarily during human walking and running. He has lived and worked in the UK, Finland, Denmark and Australia, and collaborates extensively with scientists and coaches from around the world. Neil's current research focusses on the mechanics and energetics of elite distance runners and race walkers, with the ultimate aim of understanding and optimizing movement efficiency. Tim Hutchings (UK) Between 1980 and 1990 Tim was a fullyfledged international distance runner, placing 4th in the 1984 Olympic 5,000m and twice taking the silver medal in the World Cross Country Championships. As well as earning European and Commonwealth bronze medals at 5,000m in 1986, Tim developed a reputation as a front-running, no-nonsense runner at all distances from 1500/Mile up to 10,000m. He ended his career with a Mile PR of 3:54 and 10,000m PR of 28:07. He now combines TV commentary with management of The Grounded Events Company in order to organ - ise the Brighton Marathon, now the UK s second biggest marathon race after London. Chris Jones (Ireland) Athletics Ireland National Endurance Coach. Chris was previously Performance Director Triathlon Ireland and Head Coach for British triathlon through the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympic Games. He currently coaches Fionnuala Britton (2xEuropean XC Champion and European Indoor medallist). Tomasz Lewandowski (Poland) Coach to Marcin Lewandowski, 4th at consecutive World Championships 800m, European Champion, Eu U23 Champion. Tomasz is currently Manager and Leader of Team Lewandowski and coach at Zawisza Bydgoszcz and UKL Ósemka Police. He has been National Coach for Middle Distance in Poland from 2005 to Dr Charles Pedlar and Nathan Lewis (UK) Dr Pedlar and Nathan Lewis work for Orreco. Orreco provide biomarker analysis for world leading athletes, federations and professional franchises. Clients include multiple World and Olympic Champions, World Cup and Major Winners. Dr Yannis Pitsiladis (England) Yannis is a Professor of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Brighton (School of Sport). He is an adjunct Professor of Medical Physiology at the University of Technology (Kingston, Jamaica), Moi University (Eldoret, Kenya) and Addis Ababa University (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia). He is a member of the Scientific Commission of the International Sports Medicine Federation (FIMS) and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). He has published over 100 papers, edited a number of books and he has featured in numerous research documentaries (e.g. BBC, NHK Japan, CNBC). His most recent research is funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and has sat on two WADA committees (List Expert Group and Gene doping). Norman Poole (UK) Norman is President of the British Milers Club and holds a Master Coach Award from British Athletics awarded by Frank Dick. He has coached from the North West of England for over 35 years. A graduate in Physics and Electronic from Lancaster University Norman still refers to himself as a club coach but his charges through the years have included Diane Edwards, Ann Griffiths, Kevin McKay, Craig Winrow, Tom Lancashire, Micheal Rimmer and Niall Brooks. Norman offers a great insight into the challenges of coaching elite level athletes but his talks at the European Conference will emphasise the athlete coach journey and describe how athletes have progressed from novice to Championship level under his guidance. David Rowland (England) Dave is National Coach Mentor for Physical Preparation, England Athletics. Previously Head of Strength and Conditioning, Bristol Rugby. Dave provides coach education support and expertise to conditioning for coaches on the National and Local Coach Development Programmes of England Athletics. David Sunderland (England) England Athletics National Coach Mentor for Middle Distance and Steeplechase. Dave has worked with athletes at every level from Schools to Olympics and is a former Olympic team coach. He coached Tina Colebrook to an Indoor 800m world record and Lynsey Sharp to the European 800m title and 2012 Olympic Games. He is a former National Event Coach and an internationally respected coach educator.
