1 Dates for your Diary 2016 April 22 nd July Can the school children of North Derbyshire collectively run to Rio? We think so! It is over 9000 kilometres from Derbyshire to Rio, host of the 2016 Olympic Games. Run to Rio! is a fantastic, fun challenge which promotes fitness, wellbeing, sport, individual and team achievement. With the added benefit of supporting 3 local charities, Ashgate Hospicecare, Blythe House Hospice and Helen s Trust under the banner #Challenge Derbyshire. It is free to enter Run to Rio! We are encouraging children to raise sponsorship money from friends and family. The school that runs the most kilometres will receive a trophy and the school which raises the most sponsorship money will receive a choice of team kit or sports equipment. Throughout April In the coming weeks, The Springs Shopping Centre will be invaded by a hoard of mannequins designed by local businesses and Blythe House Hospice. The mannequin festival will be an opportunity to not only raise awareness and funds for Blythe House, but for local businesses to add their innovativeness into the campaign as well. To donate to this event visit: 25 th April 1 st May Sunflower Appeal in the Springs We will be in the Springs Shopping Centre in Buxton all week promoting our Sunflower Memories Appeal. There will be opportunities to dedicate sunflowers, buy your own sunflower for your garden and make donations. If you might be able to 30 th April Hoka Highland Fling Mark Rushton will be running in the Hoka Highland Fling to raise money for Blythe House Hospice. You can support Mark at 1 st 31 st May Sunflower Memories Appeal Remember a loved one by dedicating a sunflower to them with Blythe House Hospice. Your personalised beautiful bright sunflower will display the name of who it is dedicated to and will shine in our garden throughout the appeal and following that is yours to keep. To donate to the appeal and dedicate a sunflower contact the fundraising team on st May Family Fun Day A family fun day will be held at the New Inn Pub in Chapel on Sunday 1 st May, with games, 7 bands including The Blokes, a BBQ and outside bar. This is the place to spend your bank holiday weekend as the bands will be playing all afternoon from 1pm till 9pm, Blythe House Hospice collection tins will be at the bar for donations. 8 th May Buxton Junior Inter-club Football Tournament The Mahon family are hosting an inter club football tournament at Silverlands, Buxton FC in memory of Michael Mahon. Everyone is welcome to attend from 11AM onwards and all proceeds will be split between Buxton Juniors Football Club and Blythe House. 9 th 15 th May Dying Matters Week in the Springs We will be in the Springs Shopping Centre in Buxton all week talking to people about Dying Matters. If you might be able to 14 th May Snowdon Charity Challenge A group of brave UK Federal-Mogul Graduates, HR Managers and Plant Managers are climbing Mount Snowden to raise money for Blythe House Hospice. 2 15 th May Bakewell Golf Day Bakewell Golf Club are holding a charity day in aid of Blythe House & Helen s Trust. The day is open to all golfers with a handicap, with hole sponsorship opportunities available. Entry is just 40 per team of 4. Please contact Bakewell Golf Club on for further information. 21 st May (Saturday) Bag Pack 21 st May Ironman Challenge Lanzarote Simon Corbett is taking part in the Ironman Challenge in Lanzarote. Located on the northern edge of the Canary Islands off the northwest coast of Africa, this race is considered by many to be one of the toughest IRONMAN events in the world. If you wish to sponsor Simon please contact the fundraising office nd May Great Manchester Run There are two runners taking part in this year s Great Manchester Run for Blythe House Hospice: Mike Gray will be running to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. You can support him at David Hill will be running for Blythe House Hospice. 28 th May Collection in the Springs 28 th May Ruby Walk This is an annual sponsored walk along the canal from Macclesfield to Chapel, in memory of Karen Brydon and Michelle Whyte. The sponsorship is shared between Blythe House Hospice and East Cheshire Hospice. If you would like to sponsor any of the walkers please contact the fundraising department. 28 th May Blackpool Promenade 10 Mile Run Mike Gray will be running the Blackpool Promenade 10 Mile Run in aid of Blythe House Hospice. This is part of his 1000 miles in a year challenge. To support him visit his just giving page at 4 th June Derbyshire Magistrates Spring Charity Walk Michael Hilton will be running in the Derbyshire Magistrates Spring Charity Walk to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. You can support him at 11 th June Back to the 80 s Blythe Spirit Welcome to the house of FUN! Join us for an 80 s themed night with live band T.V.O.D. covering Madness, the Specials, Dexy s Midnight Runners, The Jam and much more AND a DJ so you can party all night long. Tickets: 20 including food. Fancy dress optional but there will be a prize awarded to the best outfits. 16 th June Coffee Evening Chinley & Buxworth Women s Fellowship are hosting a coffee evening at the W.I Hall in Chinley. Starting at 7:30pm, admission is 1 which includes tea and biscuits. Stalls, cakes and tombola will also be available. 17 th June Cavendish Golf Day Following the incredible success of 2014 s Golf Day we are holding another competition at Cavendish Golf Club. This day is now fully booked. 18 th June Cannock Chase Challenge 10K Mike Gray will be running in the Cannock Chase Challenge 10K to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. 3 26 th June The Donnington Park 10 Mile Run Mike Gray will be running in the Donnington Park 10 Mile Run to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. You can support Mike at 28 th June Hillhead We have once again been offered the fantastic opportunity to collect at this giant event in Hillhead Quarry. Over 8,000 people walk through the gates of this quarrying exhibition to see the incredible displays, sit in the huge diggers and just generally marvel at the wealth of equipment and machinery on offer. It s great fun and a great way to promote our services. If you might be able to help please get in touch. 2 nd July Manchester 5K Colour Run Mike Gray will be running in the Manchester 5K Colour Run to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. Take on this exhilarating challenge and make all your friends jealous, it s a once in a lifetime experience! Interested? It s 75 to register (non refundable deposit) and a minimum of 300 in sponsorship before getting yourself all geared up and taking the leap in Hibaldstow, North Lincolnshire, or above it should we say 9 th July Buxton Carnival 4 Mile Race Mike Gray will be running in the Buxton Carnival 4 Mile Race to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. You can support Mike at 16 th July Business Walk Local business men and women are undertaking a marathon 26 mile walk from Blythe House Hospice to Ashgate Hospicecare via Helen s Trust to raise money for the campaign which links all three North Derbyshire charities, #ChallengeDerbyshire. You can support Mike at 3 rd and 4 th September TrekFest The peaks Fancy taking on a challenge in 2016, why not sign up for one of TrekFest s 4 hikes in the Peak District National Park. A mammoth 295 mile ride from London to Paris but will be an unforgettable experience for everyone who takes it on. People take on this challenge for different reasons, but they all leave with amazing stories, new friends and an overwhelming sense of achievement. Don t miss out on the chance to hear all your favourite pieces of classical music performed by the award winning Halle orchestra. Keep your eyes open for more information about this exciting event and your chance to sponsor a member or section of the orchestra in order to make this wonderful event possible. 18 th September Big Stockport 10K Mike Gray will be running in the Big Stockport 10K Run to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. You can support Mike at 24 th September Swim Serpentine Swim Serpentine is a 1 mile event which gives amateur swimmers an opportunity to swim the same open water course as national, international & elite athletes. This is a swimming challenge not to miss as 6,000 swimmers are expected to take part and you can be one of them. For more information Dan dan.nichols@blythehouse.co.uk September 2016 Dan s DOUBLE Ironman Back in July 2015 Dan from the Old Hall Inn in Whitehough took on the epic challenge of an Ironman in Frankfurt, however that wasn t quite enough and this year he s taking it a step further He s taking on a DOUBLE Ironman, which encompasses an open water swim of 7.6km (4.8miles), a cycle of 360km (224miles) and an 84km (52mile) run! You can support Mike at 3 rd 9 th October Hospice Care Week Hospice Care Week is an annual awareness-raising week to raise the profile of hospice care across the UK. Once again we re planning lots of events during this week and keep an eye out for lots of exciting things on social media! We also have a stall promoting it in the Springs Shopping Centre in Buxton. If you might be able to help us please get in touch on or if you re shopping, stop and say hi! 10 th 16 th October Christmas Shopping in the Springs We will be in the Springs Shopping Centre in Buxton all selling Nickelodeon stock and Christmas items perfect if you re trying to get ahead before the big rush! Grab some Christmas treats for family, friends and yourself! 7.30pm start. Tickets: 5 each, which includes a glass of wine and a goody bag. 5 November Cheddleton Christmas Pudding Run Mike Gray will be running in the Cheddleton Christmas Pudding Run to raise funds for Blythe House Hospice. You can support Mike at 20 th November Light up a Life We are inviting you to remember, celebrate and dedicate a light in support of this year s Light up a Life Festival. The celebration will take place at Blythe House Hospice from 2:30pm 5:30pm and features the Tideswell Male Voice choir and a short service by the Rev d Richard Mottershead at 3:45pm before the beautiful twinkling lights which adorn the hospice inside and out, are switched on. These starry white lights, which shine daily for nearly two months, represent not only celebrated lives and events, but also the vital work of Blythe House Hospice, which every dedication supports. 26 th November (Saturday) Bag Pack 10 th December (Saturday) Bag Pack Regular Events Coffee Mornings Blythe House Hospice have teamed up with Alderbrook Day Services to provide monthly Coffee Mornings at Blythe House between 10:30 and 12:30. The students at Alderbrook will gain excellent hospitality experience to help them pursue a career in the industry. A selection of drinks, cakes and stalls will be at each coffee morning as well as a great chance to learn more about your local hospice. These are the dates to put in your diary: May 20 th June 17 th July 22 nd August 19 th September 16 th October 21 st November 18 th December 16 th Ladies Network Evenings Join us on the second Thursday of each month for an evening of great food, fun activities and even better company. Each month sees a different and imaginative event or theme, such as film nights, comedy evenings, speeches. And of course, parties. Everyone is welcome, just bring a small item of food to share. It s only 5, which includes a glass of wine or soft drink.
