1 Rules and Regulations Survival Firefighter Run Brabant-Wallon Provincial Union of Fire-fighters of Walloon Brabant Article I. Organiser The non-profit association Union Provinciale des Sapeurs-Pompiers du Brabant Wallon ASBL, [Provincial Union of Fire-fighters of Walloon Brabant], having its registered office at 115 Chaussée de Namur, 1300 Wavre, Belgium, is the organiser of the competition called "Survival Firefighter Run Brabant Wallon," abbreviated as "SFRBW". It alone shall define the conditions for participation in the "SFRBW" and shall be free to accept or reject an application from another team, according to the terms and conditions of participation laid down in these rules and regulations. Article II. Competition The "SFRBW" shall be open only to fire-fighters. This competition is open to all fire-fighters in Belgium, but also from outside the country. Article III. Terms and conditions of participation Provide proof that you are a fire-fighter (official certificate from your superiors). Provide proof of accident insurance (copy of insurance policy that covers any accident during the competition). Article IV. Participants Each participant must be aware that this competition will require significant physical exertion. You are consequently strongly advised to see a doctor to make sure that you are in good shape to take part in the "SFRBW". Provincial Union of Fire-fighters of Walloon Brabant shall not be held liable in the event of an incident, fainting, physical injury or death of a participant. 1

2 Article V. Teams The participating teams shall consist of 6 fire-fighters: 4 to take part in the events and 2 as alternates. Each alternate shall be entitled to make a change, only before taking part in the event. The change must be reported to a judge of the organisation. Article VI. Registration Registration shall be accessible online only at upspbw.be (under SFRBW 2017) Name and of the team leader Choose a name for the team and communicate it when you register. The registration fee shall be 120 to be paid into account BNP PARIBAS BE with, as reference, the name of the team and SFRBW2017. BIC code, BNP Paribas Fortis Belgium: GEBABEBB Article VII. Competition Indoor event: Course dedicated to the fire-fighting task of rescuing the rescuer (technical obstacle course with difficult passages, search for and removal of victims) Final event: 14 km run. Article VIII. Place of events Indoor event: PAMEXPO, 19 Avenue des Combattants, 1490 Court-St-Etienne, former 3200 m² industrial hall, refurbished to host events. Final event: 14 km run starting from and finishing at PAMEXPO. Article IX. Equipment 2

3 Full intervention equipment (fire trousers, jacket, gloves, helmet and boots) SCBA + spare cylinders Sport clothes + trainers Article X. Food and water supplies Breakfast at 7:30 AM Snack as of 11:00 AM Replenishment with water and energy drink planned during the events Water supply during the events Supplies midway through the race Article XI. Scoring the events Indoor rescuing the rescuer course Each fireman of the team will be given points individually per obstacle overcome in the indoor course. At the end of the indoor event, the points of each fireman will be added up and will give the total points attributed to the team. Running as a team: The team of 4 firemen will be given points according to the time measured during the running race. Team ranking principle The points obtained by the team in the rescue the rescuer obstacle course and the running race will be added and give a total number of points per team. The teams will be ranked in decreasing order, i.e. the team that obtained the highest number of points will be ranked first, and the team that obtained the least amount of points will be last. Article XII. Penalties and disqualifications Each fireman on the team that takes part in the course, who arrives upon the second alarm from their body guard, which actually indicates that only a few minutes are left to evacuate, will be eliminated. The team that takes part in the running race will start and come back together. If the team does not cross the finish line together, it will be disqualified and will not be given any points. 3

4 The team that takes part in the course will follow the instructions of the judge who monitors its performance during the race from start to finish. The judge will give a score which he will show to the team at the end of the race. If the team contests the result, an organising official will settle the matter after hearing the team and the judge. The organisation responsible for the SFRBW 2017 reserves the right to exclude a team from the competition at all times, for any behaviour that is detrimental to the image that firemen generally project. Article XIII. Prizes The first three winning teams will win a sum of money paid into a designated bank account (endorsed by the superiors who issued the certificate). This money is intended to sponsor the first three teams and to be invested in a sporting project and/or to cover the registration fees at a subsequent sporting competition. First team 600 Second team 400 Third team 200 Article XIV. Accompanying persons of the teams The teams can be accompanied by their family and friends to encourage them during the events. The accompanying persons can encourage the teams during the running race but may under no circumstances provide any aid to them, on pain of disqualification. Events of the Survival Firefighter Run Brabant Wallon Obstacle course: An indoor obstacle course on the theme of rescuing the rescuer will take place during the Survival Firefighter Run Brabant Wallon

5 Your team will certainly take part in a course consisting of technical and multiple obstacles. The course will be a real challenge for your team, because the difficulties will be multiplied owing to: The course and the environment are unknown to the team! The constraint entailed by firemen participating in full intervention gear with air cylinder! The difficulty of the course which will have an impact on your physical fitness, because you are going to crawl, climb, and do many other things as well! The management of your breathing and thus the consumption of the air in your cylinder. The management of your team will be your major winning asset; team spirit and cohesion will bring you to the finish line and boost your team! 2. Final event 14 km run: A 14 km run that starts from and finishes at the PAMEXPO. After the obstacle course, you will put on your sport outfit and get re-hydrated. You will then start off on a 14 km run. Note: The rules and regulations are still subject to change. We will keep you informed and send you the update. 5

6 7 X 2 Km 3. Technical course The technical course is tackled in a team of 4 firefighters. Teamwork and mutual assistance are permitted, except for obstacles crossed alone. The obstacles are to be crossed equipped with full basic fire fighting equipment (ranger boots, hood, fire helmet, fire gloves, fire jacket and trousers), and with self-contained breathing apparatus (donned mask) with visibility (no cover). The outfit is kept on during the entire course and cannot be removed: e.g. gloves kept, SCBA with functional mask, etc. Personal and collective tools are not authorised: Rhinoevac, Halligan straps... only the tools made available by the organisation for obstacles can be used for the obstacle in question. The SCBA backrest can be removed from the back to cross an obstacle (while keeping the functional front cover). It must however be replaced after each obstacle (with the worn PPE). The basic fire fighting equipment, SCBA, masks and bottles are to be provided by the participants. SCBA bottles must be 6.8 l composite bottles inflated at 300 bars exactly. The grading is based on the number of obstacles crossed, not on the stopwatch. The time granted corresponds to the capacity given by an SCBA bottle. We want to give priority to control of effort, technical skill and mutual assistance when crossing obstacles and to intervention-like behaviour. The starting bang is given when the mask is fitted (bottle at 300 bars exactly), and the stop is when the bottle whistles and/or the bodyguard reaches the reserve (bottle pressure at 55 bars). A participant whose bottle whistles withdraws from the course. His colleagues may continue. The obstacles are crossed in the order of the course and cannot be bypassed. At the end of the course, the residual pressure is recovered (and potentially shared equally). 6

7 The grading will consist of points obtained, bearing in mind that each obstacle brings in a number of points according to the number of participants and the dummy that have crossed the obstacle. Window with bars: Tools: 2 Holmatro shears on electric power unit The bars cannot be moved if the bar has not been cut at one place at least. Once cut, the bar must be removed completely before crossing the obstacle. The number of bars to be cut can be selected. Each member of the team crosses the obstacle by the window. 2 cable modules: Obstacle crossed alone Each member of the team crosses one of the two obstacles according to his choice. The two modules may be crossed simultaneously. The cables cannot be cut. 2 vertical walls: Each member of the team crosses one of the two obstacles according to his choice. The two modules may be crossed simultaneously. Mutual assistance is permitted. Forcible entry training door: Tools: Halligan and mass House front door (pushing), to be forced (purlins to be broken), then enter by the door. 2 narrow rectangular modules: Obstacle crossed alone Each member of the team crosses one of the two obstacles according to his choice, either the horizontal or vertical rectangle. The two modules may be crossed simultaneously. Floor with hole: Tools: Rhinoevac strap and strap ring (160/180 cm) Climbing up onto the floor via manhole (access to the attic via the hatch without ladder). Climbing down by an extension ladder already placed and secured (no jumping). 2 attic modules Obstacle crossed alone Each member of the team crosses one of the two obstacles according to his choice. The two modules may be crossed simultaneously. Balance: Crossing a beam on balance over the width of a sand-tipper type of container. 7

8 PAFARI: Tools: Dummy (50 kg) equipped with a bowed handle. Climbing up a ladder (already in place and secured), entry via the window, climbing down via the hatch, crossing the horizontal corridor with bars. Recovery of the dummy: exit via the hampered corridor, climbing back up by the hatch. Evacuation of the dummy by the window (Denver drill type module). Climbing down by the ladder. The module is accessed only by the ladder, via the passage, following the ladder, window, hatch and then the obstructed corridor. The team is divided at their choice in the PAFARI, e.g. one goes up to the dummy, one to the corridor, one to the hatch, one on the ladder. Packing the dummy Tools: Board and FAS strap Dummy tied properly on the board. The neck brace and head shim must not be placed. From that moment, the dummy on the board accompanies the team. High passage: The team crosses the high passage: climbing up to and down from the platform. Crossing the wall: Tools: Halligan and TNT tool The team must cross the frame (demo frame). Break the board between the 2 frames and clear the path at the chosen places of passage (according to the team s choice). Low passage: The team goes through a low passage (Heras type barriers, kept at a distance from the floor by tyres). 8
