2 PROVIDING THESE SERVICES FOR YOU Horizons Regional Council plans and helps fund affordable public transport within the Manawatu-Wanganui Region. UCOL and Massey University also provide funding to allow their students and staff to enjoy free travel within Palmerston North. FARE INFORMATION WHAT IS A GoCard OR MONTHLY PASS? GoCard and Monthly Pass are pre-paid travel cards that entitle you to cheaper travel and save you from worrying about having the correct change. A Monthly Pass allows you one month s unlimited travel from first use. Simply pass your card within 5 centimetres of the electronic reader on the bus and you are ready to go. Pick up your GoCard or Monthly Pass from the driver. HOW MUCH DO THEY COST? Your initial GoCard will cost $12, with $5 of travel already loaded. Initial Adult Monthly Pass costs $62; monthly top up $55. Initial Child Monthly Pass costs $42; monthly top up $35. All new/replacement cards have a one-off $7 administration fee. You can top up your GoCard and Monthly Pass balances on the bus with cash or at the Tranzit office with EFTPOS (minimum GoCard top-up $10). Please keep your receipt and check the amount loaded is correct. Horizons Regional Council and Tranzit take no responsibility for damaged or lost cards and credit balances can not be transferred. ONE HOUR FREE TRANSFER Purchase any single one-way ticket on any Palmerston North city bus and get one free transfer onto another city service within one hour of the original ticket purchase time. Not to be used for return journeys. Remember to hold onto your ticket to redeem your free transfer and tell the driver as you board which bus you will be transferring to. 2

4 HOW TO USE THE URBAN BUS SERVICE On the following page is a map of Palmerston North with the bus routes marked. All routes are complete loops. Once the bus departs the Main St Terminal (MST) it will travel in either a clockwise or anticlockwise direction until it arrives back at the Main St Terminal. Routes take approximately minutes to complete. The colour of the route name corresponds with the route colour on the map, indicating the direction the bus will travel when departing the Main St Terminal. (For Summerhill services please see separate timetable) Find your current location on the map and where you wish to go. Choose the time you wish to travel and be at the stop 5 minutes prior. Please signal the driver when you see your bus approaching. On the bus, place your GoCard on the reader, or pay your cash fare and tell the driver your destination. Take your ticket with you, especially if you are transferring to another bus. Push the bell as you approach the stop.! PLAN AHEAD Download the GoHorizons bus app free from the Apple Store or Google Play. Enter your current location, where you would like to go and when you would like to arrive/leave and the app matches you to the right bus. 4

5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What does HOME ONLY mean? The driver will not pick up passengers on the route, only dropping off. The service departs the Main St Terminal and drops passengers off at the stop nearest their destination. The bus will not return to Main Street Terminal when it finishes and the route may take longer than 40 minutes. What is an OUTER TERMINAL (OT)? The OT is a normal bus stop that is halfway along the bus route. Help I've left something on the bus, who do I call? Give the bus operator a call on Please note no responsibility will be accepted by the bus operator or Horizons Regional Council for lost property. I'm a Massey/UCOL student or staff member, how do I catch the bus for free? Make sure you have your current student/staff ID ready when you catch the bus. Your ID means you can travel for free on the Palmerston North services. Only current internal students and staff based in Palmerston North, with active smart cards, can travel for free. All other ID allows discounted travel only. I need to catch two buses to get across town, do I have to pay two fares? As long as you are catching your second bus within one hour of your original trip you simply need to have your original ticket with you and show it to the next driver. Transfers are not valid for return trips. Buses are wheelchair accessible, what does that mean? Wheelchair accessible buses are low floored, no more steps to climb up, and there is enough room for wheelchairs to fit. Please note if your wheelchair takes up a space of more than 700mm wide and 1200mm long and/or has a combined weight (passenger and chair) of more than 240kgs it cannot be carried. 5
