2 Welcome On behalf of Ghana Triathlon, you are invited to participate in our season final Legon Sprint Series of 2017! This event will feature our new and faster sprint format with both our individual and popular relay options. The event is free and we hope and want to encourage athletes, wannabe athletes, men, women, boys and girls (ages 16 and above), swimmers, cyclists, runners, professionals, amateurs and beginners to join in on the fun. 3 Registration, Transition, Start and Finish: Individual and Relay The event will all take place around the University of Ghana, Legon, Pool. Only athletes are allowed in the transition area and will be allowed to setup from 6am-6:45am. There will be a Race briefing at 6:30am. Registration will open from 6am to 6:45am. Transition will open from 6am-7am. In your registration pack, you will receive a swim cap, race number with safety pins to secure to your clothes and your start time. You will need to return your swim cap and your race number at the end of the race to receive your finishers t-shirt. Once registered, please prepare yourself to race. Within the transition area we expect you to have your bike and run gear (including your own bike and helmet) but not your swim gear (that should be on you and ready for the start). The race begins by the pool. Participants exit along the mats to the transition area. Here, you need to get on your bike, complete the bike course, head back to transition and change into your run gear. After your second visit to transition, time to complete the run! At the end, race down the finish line. For relay participants, there will be a section within transition that team members will have to stand in to crossover, once a swimmer comes out of the pool and into transition, tap your cyclist so they can start their section, once a cyclist comes back into transition, tap your runner and set them off on their way. The next few pages will take you through the race course, rules and regulation. Please remember that this is a friendly event, open to individuals of all abilities so for the more serious amongst you, play nice! 5 Swim Course, 600m The pool will be divided into 6 lanes. Participants are expected to swim each lane twice (so 12 lengths in total). Signs will be marked in red. First athlete sets off at 7am prompt (when the whistle blows) with following participants starting in 10 seconds intervals (whistles will be blown). Swim to the end of the pool, come back down the same lane (keeping the lane ropes on your left) back to the shallow end. Once the lane is complete, swim under the lane rope (red lines) to the second lane and repeat. Do this until you reach the end of the course then exit the pool and head into transition. Start Swim Exit Swim You will be given a start time at registration, you must be in the water to start as soon as the preceding participant heads off. Exit +233 (0)

6 Bike Course, 20km After you complete your swim, it s onto the bike! FOUR LAPS 5km a lap Once you have changed, grab your bike (don t mount it) and head out on the mats to the roundabout. Only once you cross the mount line (marked on the ground) will you be able to get onto your bike and pedal. You must have your helmet on and clipped before mounting your bike. As you head out onto the course, please keep to the right of the road, cycling anti-clockwise, unless you are overtaking an athlete. Follow the signs and marshals along the way and complete the course four times. There will be referees on motorcycles and marshals along the way to make sure you follow the rules and complete all laps. There will be signs in yellow along the way to assist you. At the end of your fourth lap, turn right and head back down to the roundabout to get back into transition. Only dismount before the dismount line. 7 Run Course, 5km (one lap) After you bike, it s time to change once more in transition then head out for the final part of the triathlon, the run. ONE LAP 5km a lap The run is one lap and follows the same path as the bike (anti-clockwise). Please be careful on the course as cyclists may still be competing. There will be referees and marshals along the way to ensure there is no cheating, please play fair. There will be signs to guide you, and there will also be two aid stations with water for you to rehydrate. One by the transition area and the other at the halfway point. Please dispose of your water bottles close to aid stations, littering is an offence and we need to keep our country clean. Once you are finished with one lap of the run, head back down towards the transition area but this time follow the marshals and signs to the finish area (you can t miss it, a large inflatable arch!). 8 Rules Swim: Only start when your designated time whistle is blown. You must be holding onto the wall before you set off. If you get into difficulty, lie on your back and raise your arms for a lifeguard to help you. First transition: Change by your rack, put your helmet on before leaving. Race number must be visible. Bike: Please mount only after the mount line. Please ride on the right hand side of the road, to the right unless you are overtaking (there will eventually be runners on the left hand lane). You are responsible for counting your laps (four in total), you will be disqualified if you cheat or do not complete the right number of laps. Helmets must be worn throughout the entire bike ride and only removed after the dismount line. Second transition: Only get off your bike before the dismount line and then remove your helmet. Change by your rack. leave your cycling equipment next to your bike. Run: Please have your race number visible at all times. Run on the left hand side of the road, in the same direction as the bike course. Your upper body must be clothed. At the end of the one-lapped run, head back towards transition but this time, complete the event down the finishers line. Finish: Please hand your race number and your swim cap to an official to receive your t-shirt. Results Results (total time, it is up to you to track individual disciplines) and our top three participants will be announced 30 minutes after the last athlete crosses the line. Please hang around, help yourself to drinks and snacks and collect your finishers t-shirt (you will need to hand in your race number and swim cap for this) (0)
