4 RACE DIRECTOR UPDATES Welcome to the 2017 Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns Asia-Pacific Championships // Cairns Airport Adventure Festival, the seventh edition of this exciting event. Over its six year history the event has become known as the IRONMAN in Paradise, boasting an experience that extends past the race day excitement. Hosted in Tropical North Queensland athletes and their support crew have easy access to the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest and the tropical island surrounds. The Cairns Airport Adventure Festival which will take place from 4 12 June, besides the IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns, includes the Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns Asia-Pacific Championships, Coral Coast Triathlon, RRR Mountain Bike Challenge, Hekili Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge, Quicksilver Reef Swim Green Island, The Cairns Post Bright Night Run and the McDonalds IRONKIDS Cairns. Cairns Airport Ironman Cairns offers a course that is arguably the most spectacular on the Oceania event calendar. From reef to World Heritage listed rainforest, and a finish line in the heart of the CBD the race has become a mustdo on the IRONMAN calendar, and there is every reason to believe the hype. Finally, the Cairns community and volunteers are ready and waiting to support you during your IRONMAN journey. The town and region surrounding Cairns is amongst the welcoming regions in Tropical North Queensland and I encourage you to take the time to explore the city and its surrounds. We wish all participants the best of luck and hope that you can enjoy your time in Tropical North Queensland. See you at the Finish line. Aaron Freeman Race Director 2

The water temperature will again be taken on race morning and the final ruling on wetsuit use will be continuously announced up to the time Transition 1 closes. If the water temperature is not greater than 26.0oC/78.8oF wetsuits are optional. If you have friends and family supporting you on the day, this is where they need to be to catch all the action of the final leg of the IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns. Please be considerate of these competitors and allow them adequate room to pass if required. Lead Bikes for the HC competitors will be clearly identifiable and have been given express permission to provide this support.
