1 UMKC Track and Field Thursday, January 15, 2009 This Week In Kangaroo Track and Field Kansas City, Mo. -- The UMKC track and field team will venture to Manhattan, Kan., to compete in the KSU Invitational. The student-athletes will compete inside Ahearn Field House on the Ward Haylett track. The meet takes place on Sat., Jan. 17 with the women s weight throw at 11:00 a.m. The running events start at 3:30 p.m. with the men s 800-meter run. The UMKC men have eight student-athletes with times/marks in the top-five in their respective events while the women have 11 student-athletes. Larrry Hill leads the UMKC men in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.20 and is second in the league behind Joe Goike of Oakland at 1: Samuel Sullivan and Kevin Venerable are second and third in the league in the 60 meters, while Charlie Larson and D.C. Okonta possess the no. two and no. three marks in the triple jump, respectively. Senior Kathryn Tenkku is second in The Summit League in the women s high jump with a height of In sprints, freshman Brianna Marshall is sitting fifth in the 60 meters and fourth in the 200 meters for UMKC. The Kangaroos are running the third, fourth and fifth top-times in the league in the 800 meters with Aubrey Frederking, Maggie Light and Lindsey Howard leading in the UMKC women in middle distance action. Etagegn O Neill has the third fastest time in the mile at 5:26.61, posted at the Iowa State Holiday Preview back on Dec. 5. All Day Men Record Four Top-Five Finishes at Missouri Invitational UMKC competed in the Missouri Invitational on Friday, Jan. 9th and recorded three top-five finishes, with two relay teams also placing in the top-five. Larry Hill finished fourth in the men s 600-yard run with a time of 1:14.29, while the Kangaroos secured fourth and fifth place finishes in the men s triple jump. Charlie Larson finished with a mark of (13.06m) and D.C. Okonta with a mark of (12.83m) for fourth and fifth, 1

The Kangaroos fared well in the 4x400-meter relay on both the men s and women s side. The UMKC A team composed of Trevor Nared, Larry Hill, Alex Lopez and Keenan Simmons ran for a fourth place finish with a time of 3: On the women s side, Natalee Dyke, Sakia Taylor, Brianna Marshall and Lindsey Howard finished fifth in the event, clocking in at 4: On the day, UMKC recorded a total of 13 top-10 finishes. Aubrey Frederking finished seventh in the women s 800-meter run at 2:28.11, while Etagegn O Neill finished ninth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3: Dyke and Howard both set personal bests in the women s 600-yard run, taking 10th (1:31.41) and 14th (1:37.14), respectively. In the jumping events, Kathryn Tenkku was ninth in the women s high jump at (1.48m) and Brad Chesney finished eighth on the men s side at In addition to his fifth place finish in the triple jump, Okonta took ninth in the long jump for a personal best mark of UMKC Records 12 Top-Five Finishes at ISU Holiday Preview UMKC competed in its first indoor meet on the schedule on Friday, Dec. 5. The Kangaroos had nine individuals and three relays finish in the top-five at the ISU Holiday Preview in Ames, Iowa. The top finish of the day was had by Sakia Taylor in the women s 300 meters. Taylor took second in the event, clocking in at In other women s action, Maggie Light finished fifth (2:39.34) with Lindsey Howard right behind in sixth (2:40.26) in the 800-meter run. The Summit League Releases Indoor Track and Field Preseason Poll The Summit League released its indoor track and field preseason poll on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The UMKC men s and women s teams were picked to finish seventh in the league. The women received 12 points while the men tallied eight. North Dakota State was favored on both the men s and women s side. The Bison women received seven first place votes, 29 points overall, while the men received five first place votes, 35 overall.
