3 Club Achievements for Juvenile Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. athletes excelled this year on the County, Munster, National & International stage in a diverse range of events leaving the Club with a 3 rd place Irish ranking after the National Juvenile Track & Field Championships. These young adults all worked very hard and competed to a very high standard in their chosen events still managing to balance their school work. A particular mention goes to Daniel Ryan who sat his Leaving Certificate this Summer and got his No. 1 choice, to study Physiotherapy in Brunel University, London. He also won County, Munster & National titles at Juvenile, Junior & Senior level ending his season with his first National Senior medal, a bronze in the 110mH. Both Jack Ryan and Liam McDonagh also sat their Junior Certificate exams this Summer and await their results in the next two weeks. We may be a small Club but we do have some extraordinary athletes, parents & coaches. Our athletes winnings are detailed in the next few pages, each one has their own unique achievements. We are incredibly proud of them all and are sure that they will inspire our next group of juveniles to aim high and touch the sky. 7 The Ryan Siblings Daniel Ryan U/19 In November 2016, Daniel won the Senior Boys title in the Irish Schools Combined Events Championships in Athlone. This was his 5 th title in a row (1 st Year to 6 th Year) having been twice the Junior Champion, twice the Intermediate Champion & now the Senior Champion. He also holds the Irish Schools Junior, Intermediate & Senior Irish Schools records in this event as well as over 50 Munster & Irish records in Hurdles, Sprints, Long Jump & Decathlon. His highest-ranking competition in 2016 was the European Youth Track & Field Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia in July where he finished an excellent 11 th place in the

8 Decathlon setting a new Irish Youth Decathlon record of 6752 points. He also ran a season s best of in the 110m Hurdles & posted 4 new personal bests in the 100m (11.23), 400m (52.18), 1500m ( ) & Discus producing the longest throw of the competition with 47.27m. In 2015, Daniel competed for Ireland at the European Youth Olympics in Tbilisi, Georgia where he finished in 4 th place in the Long Jump. Daniel had a stellar 2017 indoor season being County, Munster and Irish Champion in the Shot Put, Long Jump and 60m Hurdles. On his way to the Munster and Irish titles in the 60m Hurdles he broke the Munster and Irish U/19 records with his fastest time being 8.16s. He also claimed the Irish U/20 Shot Put and 60m Hurdles running a PB of 8.03s in the Hurdles. He followed his good start to the season by winning gold and silver medals in the Irish Schools Championships. He ended his School s career unbeaten in the Hurdles and the Long Jump and winning a total of 13 medals, 12 of those being gold. In the Munster Junior Championships later that summer he set 2 Munster records in the Pole Vault where he jumped 3.80m and in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 14.97s. At the Irish Juvenile Championships, he won 3 medals and set an Irish record in the 110m Hurdles running 14.48s. To cap off a brilliant year he won a bronze medal in the Irish Senior Championships in the 110m Hurdles in his 3 rd race over the senior height. He recorded a time of 14.77s which was just outside the Munster Senior Record of 14.71s. Daniel has been accepted into Brunel University London to study Physiotherapy in September of this year, a university that has a strong tradition of athletics and whom he hopes to represent at UK and World University Championships in the future. His main goal for 2018 is to compete in the Decathlon at the World Junior Championships in Finland and break the Irish Junior Decathlon record currently held by Barry Walsh, Physiotherapist and lecturer based in St. George s University in London.
