1 MALAKOFF UNIVERSITY DUATHLON SERIES AT A GLANCE WHAT IS A DUATHLON Duathlon is a multi-sport event that consists of three separate race sections bearing some resemblance to a triathlon, however, duathlon featuring only two disciplines. A duathlon typically comprises of a run, followed by a bicycle segment, wrapping up with a final lap of run. Standard distances for duathlon competitions vary starting from 3km Run - 14km Bike - 3km Run (e.g. Malakoff University Duathlon Series), to 11.4km Run - 64km Bike km Run (e.g. Malakoff Powerman Asian Duathlon Championships), and right up to a grueling 10km Run - 150km Bike - 30km Run distance for premier duathlon competitions (e.g. Powerman Zofingen in Switzerland). 2 THE MALAKOFF UNIVERSITY DUATHLON SERIES The Malakoff University Duathlon Series (MUDS) is specifically designed with a manageable distance when compared to professional duathlons, providing nonprofessionals, amateurs and beginners an opportunity to experience the thrill of competing in a duathlon. MUDS is an initiative under Malakoff s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility platform the Malakoff Community Partnerships, which aims to encourage greater participation in multi-sport endurance events, especially amongst students. The goal of the initiative is to encourage the development of a sustainable Duathlete Community in Malaysia. The event also serves as a training platform for the avid Duathlete Community as they move on to conquer bigger international Duathlon tournaments such as the Malakoff Powerman Asian Duathlon Championships. MUDS 2013 TARGET RACERS: 900 MUDS 2012 Total Racers: 750 The inaugural MUDS was organised in 2003 attracting some 321 participants vying for the top spots. Since then, the Series has gained considerable popularity among avid racers and duathletes with over 750 participants joining the race last year. MUDS 2003 Total Racers: 321 Given the eagerness of previous years participants as well as host universities, Malakoff continues to champion this event for the seventh year increasing its target for 2013 to over 900 duathletes.
