HEALTH AND WELL-BEING At European Athletics Background: Twin pillar strategy 2006 EA Mass Participation Conference 2009 Mass Participation Working Group 2012 Current State Assessment and Catalogue of Leading Practices 2012 Development of initial list of standards for the organisation of road races 2013 European Athletics Health and Well-Being Conference
03. ACTION PLAN
03. ACTION PLAN Principles To serve and support our Member Federations. To act with consideration for other running market stakeholders. To play our role of governing body in this sector.
03. ACTION PLAN Quality and Safety Standards for Road Races AIMS To position European Athletics and Member Federations as natural authorities in the running movement. It is important to show public institutions, businesses and the general public that European Athletics and Member Federations are key actors. To promote the integration of road races in Member Federations environments by building positive relationships. To build a system that strengthens the links between the sport (European Athletics, Member Federations, Clubs) and the running movement and shows running is part of athletics.
03. ACTION PLAN Quality and Safety Standards for Road Races The standards follow inputs and guidelines from health professionals, road running experts and relevant international associations. Race organisers would join free of charge and on a voluntary basis. European Athletics will motivate but not set mandatory rules. The standards draw the line above which race organisers should be and have a universal dimension while respecting local specificities and laws. The standards describe the desired results regarding runners safety and comfort but do not interfere with the methodology to achieve this end. Race organisers joining will be included on the national or European calendar and will receive substantial benefits.
03. ACTION PLAN Quality and Safety Standards for Road Races The standards will bring: Promotion to race organisers. Useful information to runners. A shared reference to public and private partners. An opportunity to build long-term partnerships between race organisers and Member Federations.
03. ACTION PLAN Mass Participation Race at European Championships The idea is to bring into the climax of the athletic season a similar peak for mass participation running. The race will: Engage the local population Promote the host federation s running programmes Draw interest from host country residents. Bring a positive economic impact with runners from abroad. The combination of these events will show the wide reach and diversity of athletics.
03. ACTION PLAN Health and Fitness Days AIMS To encourage the organisation of Fitness Days comprising but not limited to - athletics discovery for kids, health and fitness exercises and promotion of local clubs. To build a promotion interface between club activities and potential members with interest in health and fitness through sport. To link Fitness Days as an appealing product for sponsors, public institutions and potential partners, especially the European Union.
04. HEALTH AND WELL-BEING CONFERENCE
04. HEALTH AND WELL-BEING CONFERENCE For the purpose of this Conference and until further amendments the health and well-being area is divided into two parts: Running Running competitors motivated by fitness and the enjoyment of participating in out-of-stadium events as a leisure and social activity. Health Non-competitive beginners in running and participants in fitness activities motivated by health, leisure and social reasons.
04. HEALTH AND WELL-BEING CONFERENCE To discuss Why and How health and well-being activities can be leveraged by Member Federations. Running workshop: Sanctioning and Calendar systems; Running programmes and relations with race organisers; Safety and Quality Standards for road races. Health workshop: To develop a health and well-being strategy; health programmes; European Athletics Fitness Days. The expected result is that Member Federations move one step closer to their understanding and/or actions in this area.
