1 BOLAND TEAM TO THE 2018 SOUTH AFRICAN YOUTH & JUNIOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS April 2018 Paarl Boland Athletics will be the host of the 2018 ASA National Youth and Junior Championships that will take place from 5-7 April 2018 on the Dal Josephat Stadium in Paarl. As Boland Athletics are the host of the event, the Boland Athletics Board requested the Boland Athletics Selectors to use the B- Standard to select a team that will represent Boland Athletics at the 2018 ASA National Youth and Junior Championships. This is one of the biggest teams to represent the Boland in its history, and the following athletes have been selected to represent Boland at the 2018 South African Youth & Junior Track and Field Championships in Paarl. NOTES: As per the ASA Team Manual for the 2018 ASA Junior Championships the competition is for the following age groups only (IAAF Rule 141): ONLY ATHLETES AGED 16, 17, 18, 19 ON 31 DECEMBER 2018 (born in 1999,2000,2001, or 2002 may compete. The maximum number of events in which a Youth athlete born in 2001 or 2002) CAN COMPETE IS TWO INDIVIDUAL EVENTS PLUS ONE OF THE RELAYS.IF THE TWO INDIVIDUAL EVENTS ARE TRACK EVENTS, ONLY ONE OF THESE MAY BE LONGER THAN 400m. a. Youth: 16 or 17 years old on 31 December 2018 (born in 2001 or 2000) b. Junior: 18 or 19 Years old on 31 December 2018 (born in 1999 or 1998) c. Please take note that no athlete born later than 2002 will be allowed to participate Any athlete not in the team announced, have the right to appeal in writing for reconsideration of the decision. The appeal must be made to the Boland Athletics office at office@bolandathletics.com within 48 hours after the announcement of the team. The appeal should include all information the athlete considers relevant to the selection panel s reconsideration of its decision, including: Athlete s Name and Surname Athlete s Club and ASA License number Qualifying Performance and Meeting where the performance was achieved Failure to appeal according to the protocol above will lead to automatic failure of the appeal. Please note that no other reasons, other that a qualifying performance on the ASA or provincial calendar will be considered for selection. ASA has done away with a minimum entry standard for national championships and has left it to the discretion of the provinces to decide who may compete as individual athletes. Boland Athletics will exercise that discretion and will not allow athletes who have not achieved at least the minimum standard (B-standard) to be entered as individual entries.
