Last year we trekked through the Himalayas in India, and later that year, we conquered Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. Now we re calling on you to take up the challenge and be brave for Barnardos.

So join us on the Barnardos team and together we can raise vital funds that allows Barnardos to work with over 5,500 children and families throughout Ireland each year. Challenge yourself in 2011 and help change a child s life today. BARNARDOS GRAND CANYON TREK 2011 Join us in October for an amazing journey and experience a once-ina-lifetime opportunity. Explore the magnificent landscape of the Grand Canyon with us. Descend into the canyon and explore this amazing feature, carved from the rock over millions of years. The Grand Canyon Trek is a challenge, both in the physical preparation and in the fundraising required, but we will provide you with ongoing support to make your experience as memorable as possible. 3 MOUNT KILIMANJARO 2011 THE RONGAI ROUTE Following the success of our Kilimanjaro Trek 2010, we re heading back to tackle Africa s highest mountain this September - but this time from a different route; the unique Rongai Route! This is the only route that approaches from the north, starting close to the Kenyan border. This is a quieter route and perhaps the most manageable, as the seven day trek has a full acclimatisation day built in. It s more scenic than the popular Marangu Route that joins up with the Rongai Route towards the summit; and there s a good chance of seeing a wide variety of wildlife on the lower slopes. It s ideal for those who want to make things just a little bit easier on the way up! This seven day trek is a tough trek but it promises to be a truly rewarding experience; an unforgettable challenge. FULL MOON TREK 2011 THE WICKLOW MOUNTAINS Join Barnardos this July for our Full Moon Trek in the Wicklow mountains. Our Full Moon Trek will take place on Saturday 16th July on Lugnaquillia, Leinster s highest peak. This promises to be a wonderful evening trek in the heart of the Wicklow mountains starting at 5.30pm, so there s plenty of light to guide you to the summit. Upon reaching the top, you can relax and enjoy the sunset before we make our descent back down the mountain under the light of the Full Moon. A barbeque feast will await you and we would invite you to stay and enjoy the craic! SECURE YOUR PLACE: We ask that you raise 175 to take part in this remarkable trek. You can expect to be walking for approximately six hours. Afterwards you can bask in the glory of successfully tackling Leinster s highest mountain!

CELTIC CYCLE CHALLENGE AUGUST 2011 Whether it s your first 5K fun run, your second marathon or an ultimate marathon, we are calling on our supporters to take up a challenge in 2011 and be brave for Barnardos. Join the Barnardos running team in our events throughout Ireland or even overseas. We have marathons and runs of all distances, and no matter which run you do, we will be there for you every step of the way. PARIS MARATHON 10 April 2011 The Paris Marathon is one of the most popular marathons in the world. Join 40,000 runners in this spectacular event! ING NEW YORK CITY MARATHON 06 November 2011 It hardly needs any introduction but the New York Marathon is one of the largest marathons in the world. It attracts both professional and amateur athletes from all over the globe. The route takes you through the five New York boroughs of Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Manhattan passing many landmarks and some fantastic skylines along the way before finishing in Central Park. MARATHONS AT HOME: There is a fantastic range of marathons on offer in Ireland each year, ranging from the prestigious Adidas Dublin City Marathon to the unique Flora Ladies Womens Mini Marathon. Sign up for any of these teams, take on the challenge and be brave for Barnardos. What better way to end the summer than with an ultimate cycle challenge? You ll have lots of time to train in the summer months! In August, some 300 cyclists, will assemble in Dublin to take part in the first ever Celtic Cycle Challenge. Combining some of the best road cycling routes in Ireland and Britain, with a mobile tented village experience, in a six day, 600 mile cycling odyssey through Wales, England, Scotland, and Ireland. The Celtic Cycle Challenge offers those with a passion for road cycling the opportunity to be part of a unique adventure - whilst helping Barnardos and the Irish Heart Foundation. 600 miles miles per day, open road cycling Tour style cycling with guided and fast moving pelotons fully supported Hotel accommodation in Dublin before and after the ride with camping en-route Mobile tented village - individual rider tents, mess & entertainment areas, and more!
