1 THE CHAMPIONSHIP SAMORIN 2017 PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE QUALIFYING Title: THE CHAMPIONSHIP SAMORIN 2017 PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE QUALIFYING SYSTEM Date: April 20, 2016 No of Pages: Five (5) 1.0 QUALIFICATION SYSTEM THECHAMPIONSHIP half-distance professional athlete qualification system for Samorin 2017 is based on place getting, as opposed to the accrual of points. The allocation of qualification slots to professional podium finishers from CHALLENGEFAMILY events and podium finishers from selected events across the triathlon spectrum is designed to ensure that THECHAMPIONSHIP is the pinnacle of long distance triathlon. 2.0 QUALIFICATION PERIOD Qualification for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2017 will commence at CHALLENGEFUERTEVENTURA on April 23, 2016 and conclude at CHALLENGERIMINI 2017 (Race Date TBC). All slot allocation outlined in section 3.0 Slot Allocation is at events, which fall within the qualification 3.0 SLOT ALLOCATION The allocation of slots for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2017 is outlined as follows: 3.1 Challenge Family Professional Athlete Slots One slot for each of the top five (5) male professional finishers at all CHALLENGEFAMILY full distance and half distance races in the qualification period (5 slots per race). One slot for each of the top five (5) female professional finishers CHALLENGEFAMILY full distance and half distance races (5 slots per race). CHALLENGEFUERTEVENTURA, CHALLENGETAIWAN (Full), and CHALLENGERIMINI will feature twice in the THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017 qualification The 2016 calendar year editions of the above races will have one slot for each of the top three (3) male and female professional finishers. The 2017 calendar editions of the above races will also have one slot for each of the top three (3) male and female professional finishers. 3.2 Ironman Professional Athlete Slots One slot for each of the top five (5) male professional finishers at the 2016 Ironman World Championship (5 slots in total). One slot for each of the top five (5) female professional finishers at the 2016 Ironman World Championship (5 slots in total). All recipients of slots at the 2016 Ironman World Championship will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP slot by completing one CHALLENGEFAMILY event (full or half distance) within the qualification One slot for each of the top three (3) male professional finishers at the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship (3 slots in total). One slot for each of the top three (3) female professional finishers at the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship (3 slots in total). 1

2 All recipients of slots at the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship will be required to validate their A total of sixteen (16) qualifying slots are available at Ironman events. 3.3 International Triathlon Union Professional Athlete Slots One slot for each of the top three (3) male professional finishers at the 2016 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship (3 slots in total). One slot for each of the top three (3) female professional finishers at the 2016 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship (3 slots in total). All recipients of slots at the 2016 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship will be required to validate their One slot for each of the top three (3) ranked professional males in the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Series. Rankings determined following the completion of the WTS Grand Final in Cozumel, Mexico (3 slots in total). One slot for each of the top three (3) ranked professional females in the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Series. All recipients of slots via the 2016 World Triathlon Series rankings will be required to validate their A total of twelve (12) slots are available for International Triathlon Union athletes 3.4 Olympic Games Professional Athlete Slots One slot for each of the top five (5) finishers at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games triathlon for men (5 slots in total). One slot for each of the top five (5) finishers at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games triathlon for women (5 slots in total). A total of ten (10) slots for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2017 are available via the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. All recipients of slots via the 2016 Rio Olympic Games will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP slot by completing one CHALLENGEFAMILY event (full or half distance) within the qualification 3.5 New Events in the Qualification Period One slot for each of the top five (5) male professional finishers at all new CHALLENGEFAMILY full distance and half distance races in the qualification period (5 slots per race). One slot for each the top five (5) female professional finishers at all new CHALLENGEFAMILY full distance and half distance races (5 slots per race). 3.6 Slot Allocation Table The table in Schedule A outlines the professional qualifying slots at the CHALLENGEFAMILY, Ironman, ITU and Olympic Games races during the qualifying 4.0 RACE DATE THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2017 (Half-Distance) is scheduled for June 3, RACE VENUE THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2017 will take place at x-bionic sphere, Samorin, Slovakia. 2

3 6.0 PROPOSED PRIZE PURSE AND BREAKDOWN A minimum prize purse of 150, Prize Purse Breakdown Prize money, (based on the minimum prize purse of 150,000) will be distributed equally between the top ten (10) Male professionals and the top ten (10) females professionals as follows: Male Professional Athletes Female Professional Athletes Position Prize Money Position Prize Money 1 st 30,000 1 st 30,000 2 nd 15,000 2 nd 15,000 3 rd 8,000 3 rd 8,000 4 th 6,500 4 th 6,500 5 th 5,000 5 th 5,000 6 th 3,500 6 th 3,500 7 th 2,500 7 th 2,500 8 th 2,000 8 th 2,000 9 th 1,500 9 th 1, th 1, th 1,000 TOTAL 75,000 TOTAL 75,000 Any additional prize money amounts above the minimum prize purse will be allocated evenly and at the discretion of Event organisers among the top ten male and female professional finishers and an updated prize purse breakdown will be published. 7.0 FULL INVITATIONS A limited number of professional will be offered a full invitation to THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin A full invitation will include full airfare assistance (economy class), accommodation at x-bionic sphere, meals and airport transfers. Athletes with full invitations will also have the opportunity to train at the race venue (x-bionic sphere) for seven (7) nights free of charge. This can be at any time of the year, subject to availability of accommodation and venues for training purposes. Athletes accepting the full invitation will be required to complete promotional obligations on behalf of the event, which will be outlined in the invitation to the respective athletes. 8.0 REGISTRATION 8.1 Registration Fees Professional registration for THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017 is free for all professional athletes who have a valid CHALLENGEFAMILY Professional Membership. 8.2 Registration Process for Qualifiers via Challenge Family Events Professional athletes who qualify for THECHAMPIONSHIP at any CHALLENGEFAMILY event will receive a letter of congratulations from the organisors of THECHAMPIONSHIP shortly after the qualifying event. This letter will include a registration code and details in order to complete an on-line registration for THECHAMPIONSHIP within thirty (30) days of receiving the registration code. Professional athletes who do not complete the on-line registration within the code expiry period will automatically waive their qualifying status and will be required to qualify at another CHALLENGEFAMILY or Non- CHALLENGEFAMILY qualifier event during the qualifier Once re-qualified, the registration process will be repeated. 3

4 8.3 Registration Process for qualifiers via Non-Challenge Family Events Professional athletes who are invited to participate in THECHAMPIONSHIP via a Non-CHALLENGEFAMILY event will receive a letter of invitation from the organisors of THECHAMPIONSHIP shortly after the event. Registration for THECHAMPIONSHIP from athletes who are invited via Non-CHALLENGEFAMILY events will only be validated once the athlete validates at and completes a CHALLENGEFAMILY half or full distance event within the qualifying 9.0 PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE LIAISON Professional athlete enquiries for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2017 are to be directed to CHALLENGEFAMILY Professional Athlete Liaison, Belinda Granger, via belinda@challenge-family.com. 4
